I reached out to Eugene after he was recommended by a close friend. My previous deck was made of Ipe wood, which, after years of use, had started to show its age. I decided to switch to Trex decking with aluminum railings for a completely maintenance-free solution. Eugene and his crew showed up exactly when they said they would, stayed on schedule, and stuck to the agreed-upon cost. I can't say enough about how happy we are with their work. Eugene and the entire team were kind, courteous, and incredibly hardworking--doing what I consider to be truly back-breaking work with great care and attention to detail. They also made sure everything was cleaned up beautifully once the job was done. I have nothing but great things to say about Eugene and his team! read more

I would recommend CHR Renovation to anyone! Eugene and his crew are great to work with, fast but diligent, and very professional. Communication was great and transparent. Our project was logistically pretty challenging being on the 4th floor but they handled it no problem. My building also uses him for roof maintenance and we have always had a great experience. read more

Called Eugene to look at my roof, it had minimal damage. He arrived when he promised, gave me a great price and finished the work the same day. This is the second time we have used CHR and I am more than happy with the work and professional service. read more

Honest, reliable, quality workmanship, and efficient. What more could you want? Eugene and his team were great.

I had a leaky roof underneath a roof deck. Eugene provided a great quote on the deck removal and flat roof repair. Eugene was super responsive. Him and his team were out very quickly and got the job done well. Couldn't speak any higher of this company. I will be using them for any of my future roofing needs. This company also builds decks, and gave me a very fair quote for a replacement deck down the road as well. read more

They did some work on our downspouts and some caulking on the roof and by some wires. They were very professional and efficient! They arrived on time as well and finished the job in a timely manner. read more

Very fast response. Did a great job and even told me how to take care of this flat roof. Pricing was fair, and they did great clean up too. read more

Eugene came out to give me an estimate for gutters and other work I wanted done. He understood what I wanted immediately ,and came up with details that covered exactly what I had in mind, including some money- saving ideas. He gave me a great price and he and his crew did an excellent job. Can't say enough good things about he and his work. read more

My neighbor noticed an issue with my roof on the front corner of my house. The second story is very high, so I was only able to get a look at it from the sidewalk I found this company on Yelp, as it had some good reviews. So I called them to come over for an estimate. I had to chase somewhat, as they never came when they said they would. They finally came over at the end of the week, gave me a quote, which i accepted, as rain was coming over the weekend. I normally get a few quotes, but did not have the time at this point. Probably, iIshould have arranged for others to come over, when they did not show up the first few days They seemed to do a good job, from what I can see from the sidewalk. I was not able to get up there and see the repairs directly. But, I do feel in the back of my mind that I overpaid read more

Did some work on my roof: Added chimney cap, power vent, plus tuckpointing and grinding on my badly cracked chimney. Work was done fast, very professional, and my chimney looks brand new! Eugene forgot to call me back about a quote and also had to reschedule an appointment at least once, which is why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. Still did a great job and would recommend. read more

How happy am I with Chcago Home Renovation? Happy enough to create a Yelp account so that I could share the good news about them!! After a series of extremely bad contractors since buying my home, I decided to do more research and was impressed by the great reviews I saw here. Eugene and his team have done my porch roofs, redone my gutters and replaced my front stairs. Each time, he has taken time to explain my options, and makes sure everything is done the right way, rather than many who cut corners. Eugene has gone above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. When I forgot to include part of a project in my original request (a downspout I wanted to replace but hadn't included in the proposal), he sent someone back to finish the job at a reasonable price. Most recently, when we realized we had some structural problems with our porch, which also meant replacing our front stairs, I was blown away by the final result. They are absolutely beautiful, the carpentry detail is fantastic, and not only were they done right on a solid foundation, but they truly make our whole home look better. It gives me peace of mind as a new homeowner to have a contractor that I can trust, won't try to rip me off, and will leave behind something that is made to last. read more

Eugene was prompt, professional, respectful and courteous! I would hire him again in a heartbeat

These are honest hard working people. Eugene is fantastic. Very responsive and a delight to work with. Price was VERY fair. Highly recommend. I got 4 estimates for my roof and Eugene/CHR was easily the best option. They are my "go to" roofers. read more

We had water leaking in the back window of our 2 flat. After determining it was likely coming in from the roof, we hired CHR to help us fix. 2 other roofing companies had tried to sell us a bunch of extra services. 1 of them said we needed a whole new roof. CHR was the most trustworthy, telling us we just needed a fresh coat of sealer and to reflash the outer parapet wall. Work was done very quickly and so far there's been no more rain coming in. We will use them again! read more

I needed gutters for my detached garage, but the downspouts needed to be put in different locations to minimize the drained water from going into the garage. I had an idea of what I wanted. He made a suggestion that was more work for him, but it was a better solution for my problem, which I appreciated. They came out and removed the old and installed the new and it looked great! read more

Eugene and his guys are AMAZING! Several years ago they replaced my garage roof and did an excellent job. I called him back a few months later to install 2 supports on my front porch. Again, excellent work. This summer I called Eugene to build me a new deck. He gave me a very reasonable quote for the massive amount of work and got started right away. They are all courteous, hard-working and excellent craftsmen. I couldn't be happier. I trust Eugene completely and know that he treats my home/property as his own. Looking forward to working with him again. read more

I would like to thank the Eugene and his crew for coming out and completing the requested fascia repair. Eugene not only quickly provided a quote, but was also able to complete the job the same day. I will definitely continue to call CHR for my roofing needs. Thank you. read more

Eugene and his crew are simply amazing. We had some recent flooding and needed 4 downspouts disconnected from the sewer. Eugene came out the next day and gave us a very honest estimate and a clear plan of how to make it work for our property. The end result was absolutely beautiful- we've already had several compliments on the aesthetics of their work. Most importantly, our new downspouts function great and all water is now moving away from our foundation. I can't recommend them more highly! read more

Eugene and his crew replaced my flat roof. The quality of work is great, and he was very responsive. Even a year later, when I thought there was an issue, Eugene came right over and checked it out. I requested a quote for a leaking flat roof. Eugene came by the same day and repaired the problem. It was repaired last month and haven't had any problems. The price was very reasonable and Eugene seems to be a nice honest guy! I would definitely recommend this company! read more

Update: 3/23: Eugene called after my first review and profusely apologized. He offered to come by and even give me a substantial discount if I would give him another chance. He did honor his word and came by to do a consultation. While in the end we discovered I neede a different type of professional, he did take time to explain things to me and even gave me a referral. I seems like a person that cares about his craft and I would use him if I needed a roofer. I called this company and Eugene answered the phone. He was polite and we scheduled a definitive appointment for an evaluation of my roof/attic issue which was supposed to be 4 days ago. He did now show up, did not call to say he couldn't make the appointment, and I have yet to hear anything from him. I was very disappointed because from reading other reviews it seemed he would be perfect for the issues we are having. As good as he might be, I would not trust him to be reliable with showing up and completing a job. This is unfortunate... read more

In a world where contractors are generally viewed as the scum of the earth, ripping off clients left and right, and doing shoddy work, Chicago Renovation is a breath of fresh air. My condo association has used them for a couple of large projects now and I feel confident in all of the work they have done. Eugene is very good at pointing out problem areas and explaining what needs to be done to repair them. He and his crew couldn't be nicer, and they work quickly and neatly. Prices are reasonable. read more

I thought I was having issues with my screen door so I called CHR cause of the great reviews. Eugene told me he would come out and take a look first thing on Saturday morning. Eugene just left my place and I'm really impressed with his honesty. Rather than scare me into doing a big fix or even charging for maintenance, he gave me advice on fixing up my screen door myself and left. I thought my door had more serious issues and Eugene easily could have gouged me if he wanted to make a quick buck but he didn't. Greatly appreciated. read more

Eugene is amazing! We called him to get his opinion regarding a flood control and gutter related issue that we were experiencing with our home. He came out to our house the same day and diagnosed a fairly completed matter in just a few minutes. Eugene was professional, honest and did very good, cost effective work. We would feel comfortable calling him and his team for any of our roofing, gutter, or water related home repairs. Thank you again, Eugene! read more

He asked about the situation.. and came right over.. at 6:00 at night... I was already impressed. He told he he wasn't going to charge me for the visit.. He climbed up on the roof looked at the problem, went to store and purchased the parts, went back on the roof and installed the piece.. and he charged me a very fair price. I was so impressed.. I called Eugene based off of other Yelper reviews and ratings behold, he delivered beyond expectations. Out of all the contractors I called (and all the reasons given to me for what was wrong with the roof), Eugene was the only one that provided the only true answer with a fair scope of work. He was professional, on-time, courteous, and also diligent in his work. He ensures quality and makes honest recommendations at a FAIR price. Don't go anywhere else, don't even think this review is over the top, if you have a roofing issue, call Eugene! read more

I found Eugene on Yelp. I do my research to a nauseating degree. I was hopeful that Eugene would provide some type of fix to my valley roof leak. Eugene showed up the next day went up on the roof and told me the valley and entire roof had some obvious issues in the workmanship. At this point he could have tried to sell me a new roof but instead he said he could do the roof, fix the valley for 400 or 500 dollars or if I was comfortable, spend 15 dollars on roof cement and patch the valley to buy a few years. He even explained how to patch the valley the right way. Eugene went on to point out all the areas of the roof that reflected the poor workmanship. I felt like I got a bachelors in roof construction by time Eugene left. I purchased the house knowing the roof was only 4 years old. I found out that two owners ago the roof was done by the owner so no warranty. I felt stuck with having to buy a new roof. Live and learn. It wasn't dry enough to do the patch so I had to endure the recent torrential downpour and another leak sprung in a completely different area. I figured there was no way around it now, the roof had to be replaced. I called Eugene and again he was out the very next day. He gave me a very good estimate for the roof and the gutters. I told him I could to better on the gutters and he said that I should and showed me how I should make sure the guy installed them. I showed him where the new leak was and he found a section of fascia that was loose and he fixed it while he was here no charge! He said to try the roof cement and a drip edge on the dormer and then call him if it doesn't work. I will be trying it this week. Gene really is a life saver and could have easily sold me a new roof at that point. This man is very honest and though I hope to never see his workmanship with a roof replacement, if I do, I can rest assured it would be top notch and a a good price. I just can't say enough about how happy I am to have called Eugene out of all the other roofing contractors. Thank you so much for your help. read more

Finding a right contractor is a painstaking process, especially for roofers. That's when I stumped on Yelp and found Eugene and his company. I promised myself if all the good reviews I read here are true, I will come back to share my feedback. I am doing just that because it's worth my time. So I first gave Eugene a call and immediately I asked for his cell number so that I can sent him a picture and described the problem I had, which is a big squirrel hole in soffit. A squirrel was trying to build a nest and get into the attic. It's a nightmare for my family but a such small job (but not easy) for ordinary roofers. But Eugene was willing to come to help. He is a nice person and very friendly. He patiently answered all the questions I had and also inspected any potential issues for the roof. We discussed how he is going to fix the problem and I think the price is fair, given the quality of the work, and more importantly (or equally important), the good communication. On his second visit, he came in prepared with all the materials needed, which is contrary to my last roofer; they arrived and went to homedepot to get the materials. Because of his good planning, he finished the job with another assistant within 3 hours. Nice work done. I highly recommend Eugene and his company. read more

I woke up at 4:30am to a leaky roof. This had never happened to me before so I checked out Yelp right away to see who I should call. Based on all of the positive reviews, I gave Eugene a call around 6:30 am and he got back to me right away and said that he would be able to come out that morning. I was relieved because I was heading out of town for the holidays the next morning. He came very promptly and was very thorough, checking out all the possible sources of the problem. He was able to identify the source, and he also pointed out some possible problem areas I might want to consider fixing so they don't turn into bigger issues in the future. I was very happy with his service, would definitely use him again and would definitely recommend him to my friends. read more

I called Eugene on a Saturday thinking I'd leave a message for him to return on Monday, but no, he called back shortly after. He came by the next day on Sunday (what?!) and walked my husband through a then-potential job of of fixing our leaking patio roof and flue. He was also patient and answered questions I had and was very thorough at explaining everything. A surprising experience was that he did not try to sell us anything we didn't need. He explained what our options were, pros and cons of each, and what portions are optional to complete the work. His crew showed up 30 minutes earlier than their scheduled time (unheard of), and Eugene showed up shortly after to walk them through the job (I'm guessing). They were all very polite/respectful and cleaned up after themselves pretty well at the end of day one. I should note that the Village had some or other paperwork mishap and they were going to stop the work unless Eugene showed up to sort out permit stuff, which he did and no work was interrupted. The guys were done on day two, Eugene walked me through their work and invited me to come up to the roof, which I had to tactfully decline since my feet below on solid ground. My husband did go up later though, and reported a job well done. The chimney also looks much better now and doesn't seem to want to disintegrate any more. It has rained a number of times since the new patio roof is on, and it has not leaked since (so happy!) and the wood is not getting all rotted-out like before they ripped everything off. We will definitely call Eugene and his crew again. read more

I found CHR Renovation on Yelp when I needed repairs done on siding, soffit, and gutters. I called Eugene on a Monday; he gave a fair and detailed estimate first thing the next morning; and, before that Wednesday morning was over, a crew had successfully completed the job and cleaned up without leaving a trace. Eugene instilled trust and made the process easy, working within the constraints of my schedule and being readily accessible for follow up questions. He will be my "go to" for any problems that come up with my 100 year old house. If any of my friends ask for a recommendation, I'll say "I gotta guy..." read more

Eugene and his team have been terrific. We received a quote in short order after calling Eugene to replace our roof. He and his team showed up early and stayed late; I appreciated their professionalism and work ethic. Eugene has come back a time or two in the ensuing 8 months to tidy up a few things, no questions asked. Our house stayed dry all through this terrible weather winter and wet spring. We enthusiastically recommend Eugene, thanks for the great work! read more

I hired Eugene and his crew after reading the nearly perfect reviews on Yelp thinking I couldnt go wrong. And guess what? Everything they said was true. Prompt, professional, clean, fairly priced, ethical. Everything you want in a roofer. As with anything, you can always find a cheaper provider, and Eugene isnt inexpensive. But I think from a value and peace of mind perspective, hiring him is a no-brainer. read more

I have never bothered to write a review before. I was inspired to write this one. Eugene is an outstanding roofer. We had a leak in an older roof so we asked four well-rated roofers (here on Yelp!) out to look and give us estimates. Three of them said the leak was "probably" coming from a valley and quoted anywhere from $700 to $1,500 for a repair that might or might not work because "there was no way to know where the leak started." Eugene came, looked at the roof and in the attic and pinpointed the location of the leak, proposed a practical solution and charged us less for the repair. His patch held for a year until we were able to replace the roof. In the interim we asked him back to repair a few other issues and advise us about a few others. Invariably, he executed the repairs professionally for a reasonable price. His advice is always practical and durable, intended to last. If he had been available when we needed to replace the roof (our own circumstances dictated a very narrow window in which to complete the work), we would have chosen him. As it was, we followed his recommendations when looking at the methods and materials used to put on our new roof. I recommend him strongly to anyone with any issues with the roof over their heads. read more
