We ate at Choy a few weeks ago while I was in Nashville on a work trip and I can't wait to return to Nashville to go again. I live in the Bay Area where we have some of the best Asian restaurants in the nation and Choy is as great, if not better than anything I've had in S.F. I haven't had Peking Duck that good since the last time I was in Hong Kong. I keep dreaming of that crispy duck skin with the most succulent duck meat underneath. Seriously. Yum! We also had the whole fish with every side item they offered and everything was done perfectly. The shumai, scallion pancake with caviar, and baby back ribs were also standouts. I brought some foodie clients from New Orleans and they are still raving about that meal. I was so happy that it impressed them as they dine all over the world. The decor was sheik and sexy. The wine list was thoughtful with wines that compliment the cuisine perfectly. We didn't have cocktails but the bar and cocktail list look cool as well. I think the next time I come in town maybe I'll bring my co-workers there for drinks and appetizers. And the service was attentive, professional, and fun! I was talking with my hands and broke my champagne flute and the staff gracefully swooped in and seamlessly cleaned everything without missing a beat! This is a great place for a date night or a night out with friends that you want to impress. I could see some client dinners there as well. It's cool to see a restaurant like this in Nashville. It will definitely be my go to when I come in town. With the quality of the food and service, I could see Michelin Stars coming soon. Can't wait to come back! read more

'Curated' is a great word for this restaurant. Our party was made up of two pescatarians and one gluten free and one sensitive stomach and each were carefully taken into consideration by the staff. It was my niece's birthday and there was a birthday card on arrival for her and a piece of cake with a candle to finish. We were sat in a booth and it gave very high end. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Choy. From the moment we walked in until we left we felt like the service was impeccable. My wife is still raving about the scallion pancake and the greens beans. I loved the nardello peppers and beef chow fun (it's huge!). I took my three boys (23,21 and 18) for a family celebration on opening night, and it was a top five dining experience for all of us! We met several members of the opening team who had been integral parts of Michelin star restaurants and had earned James Beard awards themselves. The consulting chef was amazing and has the only Michelin star Chinese restaurant in the country, and his second in command from that restaurant in San Fran now runs the Chow kitchen! From the hostess stand to the bar to the waitstaff the service was as good as any we have experienced, which is amazing considering it was opening night. Then we got to the food... As mentioned above, my sons are 18-23 so as one could imagine, we tried almost everything. Our initial courses included yellowtail and shrimp fried rice. These were flavors we have enjoyed many times before but were amazingly elevated. Our next course consisted of squid ink pork wontons, pig ear and sourdough scallion pancakes. Two of the three were so incredibly delicious we will order them every time, and the poor pig ear was one and done as we can say we tried it but are satisfied we won't need it again. Finally, the entrees were duck, trout and flounder. The duck was perfect. Both the trout and the flounder were uniquely prepared, an ideal pairing with the duck and way beyond delicious. Next time we will try to save room for dessert. PS - my son took his girlfriend a week later, said even better! read more

Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They accompanied my shellfish allergy nicely. Each dish was explained and techniques could be explained. The sommelier had great recommendations. We found put that Choy usues local crafters to create their chop sticks and the plates and bowls. This is great attention to detail. The booths are cozy, allowing for almost private section. Music was great and added to the atmosphere. The food was very good with the yellow tail and beef chow fun being my favorite. Also really enjoyed tea service. read more

We got to the restaurant early, so we checked out the cocktail bar upstairs. The vibe was really fun - great music and drinks. We got the cashews to snack on and they were great! The host came up to the bar to find us when our table was ready. Overall, the service was excellent. The food was very yummy, if a bit salty (and I am a person who loves salt). Our favorite dishes were the egg drop soup, smashed cucumbers (a great palate cleanser from all the other salty dishes), and the chow fun. The bok choy was also nice, but not a standout. The kitchen comped us the chicken wings which was cool. They were cooked absolutely perfectly but I didn't care for the spice rub on the outside. The only dish we did not like was the squid ink wontons. There was too much spice on the squid pieces, and the wontons tasted fishy. I would definitely go back to try the shrimp fried rice! read more

I've been wanting to try Choy since their opening night Instagram stories caught my eye. The food was wonderful. Exciting and unexpected flavors, even if not every dish was perfect. Menu was well balanced- something was there for everyone. Standouts include the eggplant, scallion pancake, and smashed cucumber. The star of the show was the egg tart, though. Only a little sweet and perfectly smooth, I'd go back for just that. Cocktails were fun. Expensive, but that comes with the territory. Interior was great, too. If you went to Tansuo when it was here, you'll be glad to know they kept those wonderful booths. Its moody inside and not too loud. Great place for just about any kind of dinner. Our main issue was service. A lot of the people there were very nice, and they did a great job announcing the dishes as they arrived! But, our waiter was skeptical of one of our guest's dietary restriction in a way that was rather odd. He asked our table if we had any allergies and we said that there were pork and peanut allergies. He questioned if the pork allergy was an actual allergy or preference and continued to question it. My guest does not eat pork, things cooked with pork, or things that pork have touched for religious reasons.. When we have gone to other restaurants they have had no issue when we ask that her food not come in contact with anything that has come in contact with pork. He repeatedly questioned if he needed to "actually" tell the cooks to wash things when making her food. Finally, he just kind of sighed and said "Okay I guess I can treat it like an actual allergy." Odd. Our waiter also advised us that the duck would take an hour and a half to come out, and so we decided against it since we had plans later in the evening. Our mains and noodles still took an hour to come out, though, so we were sitting at an empty table for quite a while. One of my favorite new restaurants in Nashville. The ambiance is dark and romantic and modern which I really like and the menu is amazing. I've tried almost everything now and nothing has disappointed. I've sat at the bar both times and the bar staff and sommelier are super friendly and nice. I will begin by stating that I do not typically write reviews, time is tight; or I'm just lazy; I prefer to go with the first. My wife and I had dinner with another couple last night. The wives got their early and had drinks at the bar; both really enjoyed their cocktails. My friend and I arrived, and within a few minutes the bartender approached us; that alone is amazing as it often takes much longer to get such attention on a Friday night. My friend asked for wine suggestions and within minutes a gentleman approached with a bottle of wine and poured him a glass .. and waited to see if he liked it. We sat for dinner and our server came sooner than I am used to but not too soon, with an appertif (home made concoction) that the table unanimously thought was wonderful. We were wrestling over which bottle of wine to order and again a gentleman showed up. He did not begin with pointing out wines on the list but rather spoke to us as individuals to understand our varying tastes and preferences, and then helped us settle on a wonderful bbordeaux. When we asked for a second bottle but wanted to try something different, he came back with a bottle whose label he did not show us, but had us taste it to see if we liked it. We all loved it even more than the first bottle. Our friends had mentioned that they were not fans of merlot and the bottle turned out be a merlot. The simple fact the he took it upon himself to open a bottle and see if he could broaden our horizons/over come our prejudices regarding wine on a busy Friday night was astounding. The kind man who took all this effort turned out be the owner, which we only learned because he took the extra time to engage us in conversation. Two of the four us had several dietary restrictions. In spite of this, without exception, every single dish we ordered; and we ordered many, were all fantastic! And I am a foodie and have eaten at some of the best restaurants in many different parts of the world. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant to the moment we all left ( and we were there for at least 3 hours) the experience was exceptional and wonderful. Not wanting to leave out our server, I would like state he too, was unequivocally was superb. The decor of the restaurant was warm and inviting wihout being ostentatious. I have rarely given 5 stars to anything I experience, because 5 stars should really signify something unique and memorable. A random guy on the street stopped us and told us to go to Choy for amazing chinese food. Little did he know we had a reservation, but were on the fence when we saw the small menu. We were coming from out of town and wanted some place with lots of options. I am SO glad we ended up going. We shared the crab fried rice with the mushroom gravy and left nothing in the bowl! We held off on drinks as we were getting some after dinner, but the drinks were constantly flowing at the bar and looked beautiful. There were two bartenders, and it seemed they each had their own people they took care off, but they were so friendly to everyone it's like they were taking care of everyone at the bar plus making drinks! Super great system. It's really cute in there as well, I like the dim lightings and the red light up trims around the mirrors. We even ran into the random guy at the bar again! Super sweet and we all had an awesome dinner, as expected! Highly recommended! read more
