Choy provided an unforgettable experience. The staff was very attentive and even provided us with a shot of a curated spirit by their lead mixologist. The ambiance is sexy with dimmed lights. This is the perfect date night spot. We enjoyed our steak which was cooked medium rare and set on a bed of sizzling onions and peppers. If you get a chance make a date night reservation asap!

Great ambiance. Bartender was personable. The food was top notch, everything was superb, from the presentation, flavor, temperature and portion size. Highly recommend.

I've been to Choy more times than I can count so I figured it was time to leave a review. Choy has quickly become one of my go-to spots in Nashville. The vibe is speakeasy that's both intimate enough for a date but also welcoming for larger groups. It's the only restaurant in Nashville that is able to combine the authentic flavors of Chinese cuisine with a fun twist. I started to list my favorite dishes but realized it was almost the whole menu so I will break down my top three dishes by category: 1) Small dishes: Sourdough Scallion Pancakes, Char Siu Baby Back Ribs, Salt and Pepper Chicken wings 2) Large dishes: Whole Sizzled Fish, Pork Chop, Beef Chow Fun 3) Vegetables: Smashed Cucumbers, Baby Bok Choy, Chrysanthemum Peaches The Peking style duck is an absolute stand out!! They spend over a week preparing the duck and it makes super flavorful and unlike any other duck I've had. I love this place so much I even convinced my team to rent out the upstairs event space for a team meetup and it was perfect. We got the whole upstairs bars to ourselves for a private cocktail hour and they were able to push all the tables together so we could sit 20 people at one table. If you're looking for something unique and special, it can't get any better than Choy!!

Went to Choy for happy hour with my girlfriend, and it was such a great spot to catch up over amazing drinks and delicious bites! Drinks: Started with the Madam Blossom -- a gorgeous lavender tea mixed with rosé. Light, floral, and so refreshing! My second drink was the Dragon King, served in the cutest dragon-shaped cup. Both cocktails were flavorful and beautifully presented. Food: We kicked things off with the salt-and-pepper chicken wings, smashed cucumber salad, and cabbage salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. My friend also ordered the pork and shrimp dumplings and absolutely raved about them, though I didn't try them since I don't eat pork. For mains, we ordered the steak fried rice and the Charred Siu baby back ribs. I also tried the fish chips, which are crispy fried trout snacks that reminded us of pork rinds -- super tasty and unique, though my friend wasn't as into them. I'd definitely order them again! Ambiance & Experience: Choy has a beautiful, chic vibe -- perfect for date night or a girls' night out. It's stylish and modern, so I'd lean more toward dressing up rather than going too casual. We sat at the bar, and service was friendly and quick. Even early in the evening, it didn't seem like there was a long wait for tables. Loved the surprise at the end of our dinner: they give you a special shot, which felt fancy and fun. I even took a video because it was so Instagram-worthy! Parking: You can park in the Whole Foods parking lot nearby, and Choy validates for a couple of hours. Street parking is another option if you can find a spot. Overall, the food was delicious, the drinks were top-notch, and the vibe was perfect. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

I dined at Choy on Saturday, October 26, 2023 at 8:30 pm. This was later than my usual dinner time, so I was hungry and ready to order the entire menu (which I kinda did lol). After walking into this restaurant, I was met with a familiarity that I couldn't place until I checked my older review of Tansuo, the previous restaurant I visited couple years ago before they shutdown. The ambience was very similar to Tansuo - dark with dim ambient lighting around the restaurant. The restaurant's layout looked the same. It was nice that this restaurant was still busy during this time, contrary to my last experience at Tansuo couple years ago. There's no doubt that there was a lot of thought that went into conceptualizing the menu and composing each dish. I think the small bites appetizers like the pork & shrimp shumai, squid ink wontons, and sourdough scallion pancakes were tasty. The char siu pork chow fun was kinda bad. The pork was very chewy and was not the traditional char siu. It made me prefer the beef, which is what is typically served in chow fun. I saw that they had the served beef chow fun before in an older pic because I would have definitely prefer that over the pork. The noodles were cooked with wok hei. The snapper was the best dish of the night. The fish was very moist and there was a lot of meat. The cook on the fish was exceptional. We ordered the smoked Peking duck for $130 as well. To me, I think this price was a hard pill to swallow because I didn't care for the smokiness of the duck since I thought it overwhelmed the duck's natural flavor. The server explained how the duck preparation was a 2-week process, which probably justifies the price. But, I thought the duck was overcooked. I prefer the duck to be medium rare. The fresh cucumber and scallions portion was small compared to the amount of duck. The peanut hoisin sauce had a good consistency. I liked the liver mousse because it cut the smokiness of the duck. You have to eat this dish with an open mind and palate because if you are fixated on the traditional Peking duck, I don't think you would enjoy it. It's very different that it incorporates the smokey essence of Nashville BBQ with the traditional Peking style. One thing I have to commend Choy for is the exceptional service during the dinner. Each dish was presented with meticulous detail and the servers even made the extra effort to explain each dish. I ordered the whole fish snapper, and the server even separated the fish from the bone for us. The waters were constantly refilled. Also I liked their leftover packing/valet system. If you have any leftovers, the server will pack the food for you and will give you a voucher number that you use to pick up your leftovers at the front. Overall, Choy offers a decent dining experience with a modern twist on traditional Chinese cuisine and excellent service. I will be back for the whole fish, but will most likely skip on the Peking duck.

Service was absolutely excellent - our server constantly filled out glasses with water, replaces silverware, replaced napkins that were dropped, etc. very attentive. Ambiance was nice. Loved the jade tables and esthetic of choy! Food: the duck really is their crowed jewel. Pricey but enough food for 4 and if you add 2-3 apps that's all you really need. I wasn't blown away by the apps. Ordered the pressed-tuna, squid pasta, turnip, and pancake and I'd say of all those the scallion pancake was the winner! Will definitely go back!

A couple friends recently have commented that they wished Nashville had a good "fancy Chinese" spot, and Choy has come along to meet that need. Service was terrific, food was great, and drinks were fun (extensive wine list available!). I especially appreciated that both the small plates and the larger dishes were creative and delicious: sometimes I find one course outshines the other, but here the experience was consistent throughout. I'd highly recommend everything we ordered: the yellowtail tuna, the Taiwanese-style eggplant, the shrimp fried rice, and the Peking duck. All together, it was too much food for two, but we received a carefully-packed bag of takeout that reheated beautifully the next day. The setting feels a bit like a fancy club, so it's a good date-night spot with secluded private booths for two or four.

came for a friend's birthday and had good time here. we were seated in a booth which gave our meal a nice intimate feel to it. our dinner started off with tea that was quite tasty and a great palate cleanser. all of us got drinks and though I can't quite remember which ones we had, we each enjoyed the ones we had. for food, we had the scallion pancake, salt and pepper chicken wings, blue crab fried rice, the beef chow fun, and the green beans. this ended up being a ton of food for just 4 people. all of it was pretty tasty, but I personally really like the scallion pancake which was deep fried and served with a spread that made it different from your typical scallion pancakes. overall enjoyed the food, but am not craving to come back here anytime soon.

WONDERFUL dinner! I will definitely recommend for work dinner events. Great ambiance! The bar revamp looks beautiful and inviting; the red back wall banquet is very cool; the servers were all very obviously well trained. Server was spot on to suggest the scallion pancake - the sous vide onion confit for dipping was addictive! Very upscale experience. Felt vibrant as the place filled up for the night. The "welcome" cup of green tea was a nice touch and the hot-and-sour soup presentation was FABULOUS. Loved the little nasturtium lily pads. The chrysanthemum ice milk was such a sweet surprise! Generous portion and a delightful crunchy topping. Also loved the use of agave straws (not plastic! Not paper!). Our cocktails were definitely on point and delicious (It's Not Easy, Harvest Moon, and the non-alcoholic Better Believe cocktails). I'm hard pressed to really narrow down what our "favorite" food/drink items were because EVERYTHING was so good!   Love the family style service. Flounder was SUPER COOL presentation and VERY delicious, but an adventure to eat politely. Same comment with the ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS bok choy. So, so good, but it was hard to break apart from the stem without a knife or using our fingers, to actually eat it.   I wish this new spot every success! As a transplant from the SF bay area, I yearn for and appreciate such good Asian food!

Sourdough Scallion Pancakes
Liann A.

Coming from the SF Bay Area we wanted to try the cousin of Mister Jius. We read some articles about this place being here and we easily made a reservation on Opentable for a Thursday evening. We were greeted by a friendly hosted and our server Kyle was amazing and especially with the recommendations. We wanted to try to get things we don't usually get out there in SF. We were greeted with some non alcoholic green tea shooters, and started off with some cocktails. I got the midnight sting (old fashioned) and my friend got it's not easy and golden gate. We opted to try some small plates we don't usually get at Chinese places, I really liked the smashed cucumbers, the sichuan spiced cabbage was a good sour compliment like kimchi, squid ink wontons, sourdough scallion pancake was really good and recommended with caviar. We chose the small plate vegetables than the traditional vegetable dishes which were really good! For our mains we got the truffle blue crab fried rice which was a more wet fried rice and the New York strip steak medium rare. We were pretty full and had leftovers with our steak and fried rice. And for dessert we couldn't decide between the egg tart and the chrysanthemum ice and they were both SO good!! The egg tart was like a cheesecake and the chrysanthemum ice is something you don't usually come across. The vibe is super chill inside with great staff and overall a great dining experience. You can even enjoy a meal in their wine cellar.

Mocktails and tea that changes every day, very thoughtful

The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a nice restaurant that has a good vibe and more importantly, has great food. Every single dish surprised me. Good portion sizes, ended up ordering too much but everything reheated great at home too, nice leftovers. I don't have pictures of the dessert but it was also great. Mocktails were also tasty. Easy 10/10. I will be returning!

The ambiance and the food were incredible. The staff was very on top of it and amazing , but I would ask for them to get better intel of the menu. Small bites are great for sharing, but what is not shared is that the meals and entrées are meant for parties of 4-6 they are not individual meals which we were not informed of. So just prepared to take a lot of food home which always isn't easy when you're planning a night out in Nashville. But honestly, my entire table agreed we would go back for all of the small plates. The scallion pancake. The smashed cucumbers and my absolute favorite that I would like 20 more servings of the yellowtail tuna

I'd definitely recommend dining in - we went in on a rainy Thursday around 6 and it was already packed, but a table for two opened within about five minutes. Service is great and food hits the table quickly. We started with the fresh rolls, chicken and cabbage dumplings, and the tom kha. We added a side of peanut sauce, which was a game changer for the fresh rolls. The tom kha was a little tart for my taste, but was loaded with veggies that were cooked perfectly. The dumplings were super tender, and the fresh rolls are my favorite in town! For entrees, we got the pad thai and pad see-ew with rice noodles. Both absolutely delish, and we loved how the pad see-ew was prepared simply and traditionally with Chinese broccoli. Those portions are not to be reckoned with... we ended up taking two boxes full of noodles home! Their sticky rice with mango was our favorite bite of the night. This is a really cute restaurant and from the parking lot I knew it was a local favorite. Chicken and cabbage dumplings were excellent. Pad Thai was good, as mentioned. The sauce wasn't very flavorful and while I like onions, this dish had A LOT. Red and green onion and not consistently chopped. The green onions were very large, fibrous pieces that were difficult to eat. I also like the egg component but this dish had a lot of egg and seemed to be a large filler. We also had the pad see ew with chicken. Also good, but not outstanding. The service was top notch and the restrooms were very clean.
