Soups were hot. Spring rolls were cold and plantains were warm not hot. The rangoon was bland and some were burnt. Some of the other food (noodles, rice) was a bit bland, but when cooking for large crowds-I understand. A little soy sauce and it was all good. The fresh chicken was good. Health rating was good, plastic silverware is brought to your table. Gloves at the buffet station. Hibachi was just okay. I put garlic in my dish and it was burnt when I received it back. If you love shrimp, go on Saturday and Sunday. They have shrimp, shrimp, and more shrimp, fixed every way you can think of. The service people are on it with replenishing and keeping everything spotless. Everything I tried was good. Nothing was overcooked or had been in the pans too long. The place was super busy and everyone was courteous, staff and patrons. We were spoken to immediately upon entering and thanked for coming when we left. The service waitresses kept our drinks filled and the table cleared constantly, but not enough to be annoying. We went on a Saturday and returned the following week after church on Sunday again. Both times were pleasant and food consistent. We usually do not like food bars in my family because of the crowds and cleanliness, but we were all impressed how Chow King was running. We more than ate our moneys worth of shrimp and shrimp dishes. The sushi they offer was very tasty and fresh. My grands love the ice cream and frozen treats unlimited choices. Quick take: Middle of the road for me. Might be back one day. First time visiting in a long time. Many selections. The wait staff and hibachi cook was friendly. A lot of patrons and very busy midday on a Saturday. Didn't seem too dirty but also not very clean. Definitely check your "clean" plates before putting food on them. That's for all buffets though. I didn't enjoy the flavor of most entrees, except the good, steamed crawfish. I didn't try everything though. All of the vegetables I ate were cooked very well. They tasted better than the meats. Some of the crawfish had a different taste..almost like freezer burned taste. The men's bathroom had about an inch of water in the floor Fruit was good. The wife and I went by here for the first time in years. We stopped going due to their low health department rating. So today we decided to go back and see if anything had changed. Well their health department score was 91 so we felt good about enough to have lunch. The first thing I saw was that they had signs by all of the food that was for the dinner menu. First off if you are going to bring it out early I am going to eat it. You are a buffet not a restaurant that serves dinner off of a menu. You don't want people to eat it don't cook it that early and then place it out there to get dry and crusty and expect your customers to eat it. That's like serving your customers food you cooked for Breakfast at dinner. Secondly none of the food had any flavor. It was all bland and cold. The hot and sour soup had way too much black pepper in it and all you could taste was the black pepper. The only good food there was the fruit. For anyone that thinks this food is good you need to get out and experience Chinese food from other places. I felt like I was eating leftovers from last month. Awful. Disgusting. Haven't been here in probably over a year before today and I can say I'll never be back after this. A lot has changed here. The first thing you'll notice is a musty smell upon entering. I thought this was probably a mix of smells coming from the different types of food that had been cooking. The longer that I stayed in the restaurant, I began to recognize it as a dirty smell. After visiting the restroom, I could confirm that the place probably rarely gets the cleaning attention that it needs. The food itself was lackluster, stale, soggy, unflavorful and just overall YUCKY. I didn't even eat enough to fill up on because it was so bad. I went to Taco Bell drive-thru right after. My wife and I go here weekly since my wife loves the food. Sometimes they speak to each other in their language when they pass by us and my wife and I kinda laugh and joke around claiming that they're "done" with our presence since I have to admit, we eat plenty of crayfish, so we just jokingly assume they're tired of us eating so much; until today. We walked in the place and the lady that was going to attend us immediately started what seemed like nagging in her language to the other employees. My wife and I laughed and said "They're already complaining that we're here." Until the actual service. The lady picked up plates from other tables and smiled at them but didn't pick ours up and would avoid looking at us, and when she did, she seemed ticked off. Also she would refill other drinks but not ours. They were absolutely empty except the now melting ice, and she still didn't refill ours. She let our plates accumulate and then brought a big box and took our plates in there. I feel it was to make a statement that we eat so much she had to bring a box out. She then brought us our check instead of refilling our drinks, even though she passed by us many times after. I eventually said "excuse me" as she was walking away, and she kinda turned around and saw me. I said "could we get refills, please?" She then turned back around and kept walking away without even nodding or reassuring me of anything. I thought she totally ignored me until she came back and asked us what we wanted, so we told her. She took our cups and filled them up without taking the old ice out and putting new ice in. The ice was already thin and it had already created a puddle of water in the cup, so she just added soda to the melted ice. She never smiled at us, but smiled to everyone else. It wasn't such a joke anymore that she was annoyed by our presence, it was evident. I ended up feeling such a heavy energy and not knowing whether to confront her odd behavior towards us or leave, but I'm not brave enough to complain, so I just left the place in a negative mood. Where do I begin. We have been dining at Chow King since 2016, so we are regular customers. Our dining experience at the restaurant on Saturday (Feb 18) was absolutely terrible! The servers were very rude to my family and they pretty much ignored us (no drink refills, no clearing away used dishes). We were placed in a tiny booth towards the back of the restaurant. I insisted that we needed a table, so after 3 times they moved us to a table near the front. Now the food, it was old and tasteless , the sushi was dry and tasted like kids paste ! The beef, chicken, and pork dishes were all cold and pretty much inedible , I was extremely disappointed with the service and the food , I will not be coming back (not that they give a shit) ever again. Layout of the restaurant is great and everything looks promising for Chow King, ***BUT*** if you have ANY type of FOOD ALLERGIES please DO NOT eat at Chow King!!! My husband does manage to go to other Chinese buffets and doesn't have a problem, but he is allergic to seafood. Chow King has SO MUCH cross-contamination with seafood and other foods it isn't even funny. He ate some fried chicken that had to have used the same fryer as fried shrimp. By the time we got out to our truck, he was already swelling up with a reaction. When I had used the hibachi grill, the cook had beef, chicken, AND seafood all on the same grill and was using the same utensils. Like I said before, looks to be very well thought out floor plan, etc. Just needs to have the placement of food on their hot tables adjusted where all seafood is on the same couple of tables, not spread out throughout the buffet. read more

Awful. We have been here several times in the past years when we are in Decatur. We look forward to it. However, after tonight we will not be back. Two hours before closing and there is hardly any food out. Nothing is being refilled.They are just scraping old, hard bits of food together into the middle of the pans. The hibachi was already closed down. I did take one bite of a crab ragoon and immediately spit it out. It left a sour, metallic taste in my mouth. I told my husband that if I get sick tonight, it will be because of that. The tea is so sweet I can't even drink it and I'm southern and like my tea sweet. There were 3 children probably less than 5 years old running through the buffet area and climbing up and over the food with no parents present and the staff allowed this to happen. The ice cream was good and I was thankful for that. I can't believe that they charge $15 for this. We wanted to voice our complaints to the manager so that these issues could be corrected (as I said this was one of our favorite places to eat when we are in Decatur) but they evidently do not have one according to the girl at the register.
