I had the chorizo sandwich. They have a stall next to Val's, easy parking and the owners are personable.

A friend recommended this restaurant…read more We arrived at 11:30am on a Wednesday and were seating immediately. Our party of 3 ordered a Charcuterie Board and Ceviche Trio to share. For our entrees, we ordered the Argentinian Skirt Steak accompanied with Frites, Sautéed Greens, Fries and Chimichurri Sauce -- and the Mezcal Glazed King Salmon with Cashew Relish, Purple Potato Puree (so interesting!), Shaved Brussels Sprouts, and Chipotle Butter Sauce. Food was fantastic -- straight to the point and with boldness from the Latin influence. The ambiance aims for a higher end dining experience, and there is a full bar with additional seating. Must be a local favorite for Happy Hour and dinner. Jonathan was our server -- shout out to him for his efficiency, attentiveness, and professionalism. He responded at every interaction with enthusiasm and a smile. Would definitely return.

I started with a margarita and it was delicious. I would highly recommend the fried calamari and the Del Toro salad with medium well steak was so flavorful and the steak was grilled perfectly. While the starters were wonderful, the main dishes, Mary's chicken and boneless short ribs were tender, juicy and flavorful. If you're in the area, you've got to stop by. So worth it.

Since I was in the area today, I finally went in to get my chicken tamal (if you're not familiar with Salvadorean tamales, they're sooo worth a try! They're wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn and are much more soft and moist). These were $6/tamal. Kinda pricey but they are a bit bigger than most-however the size is moreso due to the amount of masa to meat ratio, which I don't mind since I do love the masa parts. I do wish their chicken was either more shredded or more flavored since some bites of chicken were on the dry side. The bites that wern't so dry were delicious though! Looking at their pics/reviews now it seems other people have tried other kinds of tamales, but I only saw one option on the menu so that's what I went with. All in all, not my absolute favorite tamales, but it hits the spot.

I have curious about pupusa after watching several YouTube video reviews. Although I have seen…read morerestaurants offering them for as so long as I can remember I must admit I have never had any. So today was my day for an adventure. I found this El Salvador Restaurant nearby has decent review albeit not many though. It looked clean and tidy. Walking in around 11:45 am to an empty dimly lit dining, a lady behind the counter greeted me and told to sit anywhere. It was warm with no air circulating as the ceiling fans weren't turned on. I mentioned to her it was my first time having pupusa so she patiently pointed several options. Complimentary chips and salsa were served. I thought the salad needed something to give it kick. I chose lunch #1 that consists of 2 pupusa, plantains, red bed beans and sour cream; separately ordered a lemonade. The drink came short afterwards. It was lemony slightly sweet. My plate came hot as it should and the accompanying coleslaw and red sauce were brought over as well. Pickled coleslaw and red sauce were added to the top of my first pupusa which as the cheese a beans. It was too hot to hold by hand so I ate it with knife and fork. It was definitely something g I never had before. A little hot sauce helped. I wish the doughy covering wasn't so overwhelming as I would appreciate the filling much more. It was the same experience for the second pupusa that was the pork, cheese and beans. Finally the fried plantains, I haven't grown to appreciate at this point and this example didn't improve my opinion, I'm hate to admit. I wasn't sure how to apply the red beans and sour cream so I dipped the plantains in them. I guess I need some guidance. On this initial visit, overall, it definitely was a good experience, service was pleasant, food was good though not sure if it was a great representation of this particular good. But I felt it was a good experience and I'm quite open to trying other dishes here.

Not much for vegetarians however but what we did get was good! Got the Chile Relleno. Spectacular! The sauce was amazing with the cheesy battered pepper. Nachos were good too. Their chips are a different variety, thick and firm which was. Nice change from typical chips. We got the Quesadilla too! It was not what we expected. We got these rolled deep fried taco like vessels filled with cheese, a pepper, lettuce and crema! Delicious! We will be back here again!

The potato flautas were great because it had good flavor and was clearly fresh. However, it did not have guacamole as promised on the menu, which was disappointing. My partner really enjoyed his steak birria de rez plate -- he described it as the meat that comes with the birria tacos. We both thought that the food was a little on the saltier side. It came with a side of complementary chips and salsa. The business is a small family owned business, and so the restaurant reflects that. The service was also pretty good and helpful.

I like how their store seems to be always clean and organized. There's always something I find deals on. Their produce section is always fresh and plentiful. Their plenty items are always stocked. Grading slightly on a curve as I am comparing it to the Oakland location…read more Quality/Quantity - So glad I discovered this location. As the Oakland location was getting less and less safe. The Oakland location is not just unsafe, but driving there consists of VERY aggressive drivers. Okay, now to this location. Easy in and out. Well stocked, a much better location than the one I frequent in Oakland. I now have to have the app and they are also using digital coupons similar to many of their competitors. But this brand so far has had 100% of the free weekly item in stock; wow and thank you. This will be the first time I try corn and flour tortillas in one?!?! Atmosphere - Huge, clean, and organized location. Has all the departments - Bakery, deli, tortilla, meat, seafood, cheese, and fresh ripe produce. Limited mall parking due to the many high volume businesses. Need a code for the restroom - 2010. Amazon lockers, coin collection machine, etc. The best part is that this location is in between the Business and Regular Costco! So now I do NOT have to go to the San Leandro Costco anymore, which has also gone downhill. SL Costco's review to follow... Service - N/A, they even have self-service check-outs at this location! But I chose to go through a regular full service check stand and had no problems. Price - Inexpensive! Thank you. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1981 (1998 in NV and AZ) with your 56 locations. Just realized that KKR bought you in 2017. We have been shopping this brand since it was Mi Pueblo Supermarket. In 2016, KKR bought Mi Pueblo and Cardenas and in 2017; they merged the supermarkets together, getting rid of the Mi Pueblo brand. Actually, the founder of Mi Pueblo, Juvenal Chavez, has a very inspiring story about how he started and finished with the $300M company. Sadly, he then went into bankruptcy in 2013.
