Saw the taco truck while driving past and made a mental note to try it. I got the burrito bowl and it was decent. I chose the al pastor meat and it has pretty good flavor, even though it wasn't on the rotisserie for cooking. The rice was moist and had good flavor. Seen the truck for a while but haven't tried until today, and I'm glad we did! Ordered quesabirria for myself and the meat was tender and flavorful; the consommé was perfect; the tortilla was crispy. Hubby ordered tacos with al pastor and he loved it. He's usually picky with the meat but was completely satisfied because of how tender and perfectly cooked it was. Gotta say...this is the BEST Mexican food in CV (we've tried the others)! Service with a smile and willing to accommodate (I requested no onions and no cilantro). When it's cold, I want heavier food. Usually that's meat. I'm not eating big chunks of beef for a while, and the barbecue places I like are popular and run out of the two items I like, so timing counts. When looking for someplace new/close, I saw this. It wasn't that clear to me by the map where they were, and when I drove by a couple of times I didn't see a truck (I'm reluctant to chase after a truck since I've often tried to go to a particular truck, only to find nothing there). Then I tried well before their posted closing time, and saw the truck on the street. It helps that they're close. I usually get tacos, or nachos, sometimes menudo or something else, if I want Mexican food. Burritos are too much, in a couple ways. But I saw the review for Torta Cubana, and thought I'd try that (Trader Joe used to have a wrap that I liked, plus I like Cuban food). If given a choice, I'd prefer something other than a sandwich (American style at least), so I actually haven't had a torta before. But I decided to try that. Like many smaller eateries, credit card is extra. Cash or select cash electronic payment are options. I was surprised--I really liked it (despite what looks like sliced hot dog in the middle--I don't eat those by choice). In fact, I've been there three times since md-month. I can only eat a half at a time, so I get two meals out of it (re-heating makes the grease more noticeable though). They are wrapped in foil, set on top of paper, and in a styrofoam box, and bagged. I have been reusing the first styrofoam box since it doesn't really get dirty with the paper there. I'd prefer a paper-based container, since styrofoam can't even be recycled (neither can most of the plastic takeout containers) and I don't want to contribute to more landfill if I can help it. After I get my fill of these and tire of them (for a while), I'll try something else. read more

Two visits in and both times solid. Food tastes fresh and generous portions. Service is very friendly and accommodating to tweak your order. Ambiance is whatever your car provides, if you eat in the parking lot. There are three stools alongside the truck, but the weather was making that a bad idea. This review is regarding Tacos Patron's lack of ethics and professionalism. The short version of the story is they promised to donate 18% of sales to my son's wrestling team but have so far failed to do so and are not returning any messages. Here's the full story: I hired Nelson from Tacos Patron to sell food at my son's CVHS wrestling tournament in Dec 2024, which 1000+ people usually attend annually. I was required to give them a $500 refundable deposit to ensure I wouldn't back out. He promised to donate 18% of the gross sales to the wrestling team since this event is our primary fundraiser for the year. Nelson was very responsive initially but everything went downhill after he received my $500. After that it seemed like he was ghosting me. I wasn't even sure they would show up to the event because they moved with no urgency to secure the insurance paperwork required by the school district. He didn't respond to my repeated texts and calls and I worried we would have no food vendor for the event. By a last ditch effort on our part, we got them approved by the school district literally the night before the event. Kudos to the admin at CVUSD for staying late to get it done (now that's customer service!) but no thanks to Nelson, who was dragging his feet. My wife had to trick him by calling with a different phone number so he finally answered the phone. Working with him has been a nightmare. After the event was over I gave Nelson a Venmo code to send the donation. He promised again that he would get it to us and refund my personal $500 in about a week. In a week I followed up with him but no answer. This went on for a while and the rare times he would answer he would say "give me another week". To be fair, there were heavy rainstorms that day so the number of customers were less than hoped. Still, he said it wasn't our fault and he would make good on his promise. After repeated texts over the course of 2 months, he ghosted me again. After I left a stern voice message about a month in, he did finally text back, reassuring me he would donate something. BTW, he never refunded my $500 so I had to get my credit card company to take action to return it to me. To this day, 3 months later, we still haven't received the donation or any explanation why. Consider my horrible experience before hiring them for an event. ----------------- 3-5-25- This is my response to Nelson's reply to my review: Why did you ignore me for months but respond in less than a day on Yelp? Is it okay to ignore me in private but act like you care about the customer in public? Were you hoping I would give up and forget about it? I might have if it weren't for the kids you are letting down. You said the purpose of the deposit was "in case the event gets canceled." Those were your exact words and I have the texts to prove it. That was fair and understandable and I didn't hesitate to pay it. You never said it was contingent on making a minimum amount. This is the first time I've heard that. If it was true, why would you repeatedly tell me that you would refund it? Yes, we had a snack bar, as every tournament does, but we sold mostly snacks and drinks. We debated about selling hot dogs and ended up doing so because we weren't sure you were even going to show up due to your lack of responsiveness. Like I said in my original review, you literally got approved by the school district the night before because you dragged your feet. You definitely would not have been approved if we didn't intervene and get all parties on a call together at the 11th hour. Why did you not work with the school district in a timely manner? Did you not care anymore since you already received my $500 deposit?  I understand the sales weren't what you expected, probably due to the horrible weather that day. I understand if it's a hardship on you. I get it. But why ignore my texts and voice messages for so long? Why not talk it out and come to a compromise? Why tell me multiple times you would refund my $500 deposit and donate something but not do so? Were you hoping I would give up and forget about it? You know I got my deposit back only because I asked my credit card company for help.  We are reasonable people and would have worked with you on any issues. You made it extremely difficult by not responding and repeatedly promising to do things and not following through. I would have preferred to handle this privately but you left me with no other alternative but to get your attention publicly. read more

We randomly decided to try this taco truck after passing by it so many times. I am so happy we did! We have been looking for better Mexican food since moving to CV almost six years ago because nothing compares to Oakland and SF's food scene (there's a lot of downplay of flavor when you move to the suburbs). We got the ceviche tostada, chicken gordita, street tacos and a burrito for the kiddos. Everything was delicious and they even serve their own pickled veggies as a side. I definitely recommend over any standard CV Mexican restaurant. Bonus is they are adjacent to a liquor store, so you can grab drinks! read more

My husband told me about Tacos Patron. He brought home the taco plate and got me the chicken. I'm a taco snob and takes a lot to impress me. The chicken... I was so surprised... they were amazing!!! I couldn't stop eating them. And the beans and rice... let's just say that you can tell love is put into making everything!!! My favorite burrito in the Hayward / Castro Valley / San Lorenzo area! Love how they make the tortilla crispy, meat is delicious and tender, rice and beans are packed with flavor, veggies and salsa are fresh and tasty. Finally stopped to try this truck and I'm so glad I did! My kid LOVES tacos and agreed these are some of the best in the Bay. We've eaten a lot LOL. The meat was seasoned but not overly salty or almost just as much of a crime, bland. Not here! Flavorful and really good fry on the tortilla, still soft but with some bite. We LOVED the pickled onions as well. They have a little kick which I wasn't expecting but really enjoyed. We tried chicken, al pastor, and carne. The al pastor and chicken were my fave, kiddo liked the chicken the best. We will definitely be back! read more
