The craziest experience just happened to me, I was waiting on my fiancée to meet me so we could grab a bite to eat at Chopt at 51 Astor Place where him and I eat all the time on his breaks from work and I had two cops come up to me after sitting for 5 mins and tell me I was not welcome there and that I had to leave. I'm not sure who called the cops but I didn't know it was against the law to wait on your companion to arrive to eat at a public restaurant where I thought my money helped pay their bills. Based off our headcount, she helped us figure out the salad size needed and made salad suggestions for us. Day of pick up, the process was smooth and salad was convenient to transport. Our order came with the salads in large bowl containers, meat packed separately (per request), bottled dressings, napkins, plates & forks, and she even threw in some caramel candy for a little sweet treat. I got romaine, egg, cucumber, tomatoes, pepperjack, and added chicken for extra. Total came out to be $14 which is decent for a meal in the city. Chopt is a fun experience because you can watch your salad getting mixed and chopped (as the name suggests) with this double-handled rocking chopper (I had to google real hard to properly describe this one) in epic fashion. 4-stars because this is one of the better operating Chopt locations imo. Even during peak lunch hours, I never feel the need to order ahead unless I'm actually in a rush. Whenever I do order ahead, they always have mobile orders prepared in a timely manner. The place itself is bright and well kept with plenty of seating for individuals, small groups, and large groups. If I had to nitpick, this location offers shredded pepperjack cheese instead of cubed. Normally i frequent Chop't on 42nd st when i used to work around the area. Sometimes i go like once or twice a week especially when my brain started to alert me that i need to eat healthy. This time around tho, was in the area because of some exhibition i needed to attend and my stomach was growling by the time i walked in front of Astor Place station. I saw Chop't and i was like hey, lets eat something healthy tonight! Minute i got in, i realized there was hardly any line and only three staffs were working. Plenty of seating and a working restroom. Even tho there wasnt any line, service was slow. Tired of making my own salad, i just opted for Santa Fe. I've held off writing this review for a long time because I held out hope, but unfortunately Chop't has heavily disappointed a customer: I've been a long-time loyal fan of sweetgreen, and wanted to try one of their competitors because why not, and it was also a little bit closer to my office than the nearest sweetgreen. I came in, initially overwhelmed by the large menu, and decided to try what was marked as one of their "fan favorites": the Santa Fe salad, which has avocado, grape tomatoes, corn, pepperjack, homemade fried onions, and romaine lettuce with a chipotle vinaigrette. I'm not a huge fan of avocado, so I asked if I could sub it out for chicken. I was told there would be an additional charge, which was fine with me, as the chicken is a more expensive "premium" topping than the avocado. I expected to pay the difference or AT MOST, just pay for the damn chicken. Instead, I was mischarged not only for a substitution ($1) but ALSO the chicken (around $3), so my salad ended up being almost $15, making it significantly more expensive than my sweetgreen would have been. And the quality? Not great. I found the ingredients to be not as fresh as they are at sweetgreen, and I just wasn't a big fan of the salad as a whole. The dressing was too sweet for my liking and the flavors just really didn't go well together, despite the fact that I liked all of the parts individually. To make things worse, I reached out to Chop't customer service to let them know I had been mischarged, and received a quick response saying that they would look into the incident and that I would be sent a coupon for a free salad for my trouble. I greatly appreciated the gesture and would have gladly gone to use the coupon and considered becoming a repeat guest had my second, comped visit gone well, but I never received the coupon. I very quickly went from being extremely impressed with the level of customer service to extremely jaded. Would I return? Maybe if sweetgreen were burned to the ground. read more

I wanted to give this location a better rating because it's new, clean, and inviting. However that stopped the second I interacted with an employee. There is a difference between saying things with a certain tone and actually delivering a pleasant experience! I asked a few questions about what certain things were (first time in this location) and after answering them, the employee (larger woman wearing a "Mejor/Spain" shirt during the 4:20pm shift on Saturday, 5/14) passed my salad to her coworker saying, "I don't know why people be asking so many questions, when I'm here for answers." Did she not realize there is nothing separating her from the customer? This was more than rude, and honestly just distasteful. The employees giggled, and no one but the cashier ever looked me in the face. Either this location has a bunch of children working for them, or they're getting paid enough to not care about actually doing a decent job. Chop't should course correct this now, as the location is brand new and can do phenomenally, but there is way too much competition around that people will go to instead if their service remains to be less than mediocre. Love Chopt!!! It's either Chopt or sweetgreen when I'm craving a salad in NYC. I eat salad every week now. Today is the grand opening for 51 Astor Place. I came here after work and made it to the 6-8:30pm Chopt gives. I ordered the Palm Beach salad, shrimps and with the Mexican Goddess dressing. This was really delicious. Chopt destination salads are designed to be tasty and nutritional. I love that this location is opened at a prime spot in the city. Great location for college students to grab their salads. Eating healthy is a great start to living a better and longer life. Today's donation to Wellness in the Schools is important. Inspires kids in public school to be aware of healthy eating at a younger age and being fit. I definitely will come to this Chopt more often.
