our waitress was very knowledgeable and fun. when the cocktail wasn't smoky at the table she had it redone. she made recommendations on everything which i always appreciate! we had only one snafu with a caesar salad arriving the same time as our entrees - i really dislike it when restaurants get the order and then slam stuff out. drives me crazy so i usually delay the mains except this time. then, we found out - caesar is a main here. that would have been odd - we talked about splitting it, etc. so - maybe a communication problem. i sent it back because it simply wouldn't fit on the table with the other mains. too bad because it looked great. i surely like red meat with a caesar, however. the apps were excellent especially the triggerfish ceviche; the pate was interesting in a good way. steak and seabass were done perfectly although i might have seasoned the steak more - crust was wonderful. the baked potato was mind blowing! the chocolate cake w/ ice cream also excellent. .... and, yep - we toured the menu. we'll be back read more

Wasted potential. The idea of this place is fantastic. The execution is poor. They're dry aging Prime steaks, which is a wonderful thing. You can see the dry ager, which also a wonderful thing. You can watch the grill...also wonderful. So what's the problem? They don't know what they're doing. I don't want to say these steaks aren't Prime, but if they are, they're from the discount bin that are barely classified as Prime. I don't even care if they're Prime or Choice...just don't charge me like they are. $84 for an 18-20 oz 40-day dry aged cowboy ribeye is not a bad price. But when I question whether it's Prime and whether it's actually 40 days dry aged...you've got a problem. It didn't look or taste like either. And it was cut probably 3/4 to barely an inch thick. Combine that with a good amount of gristle and I was still starving. And, no, I don't mean the delicious rendered fat that comes with a great ribeye. The real problem with the steak is that it wasn't seasoned AT ALL. I couldn't taste a single morsel of salt on the steak and this place thinks they're a steakhouse. I also have to point out the complete cross-contamination on the grill. To someone with a shellfish allergy, this could be a death wish. You don't cook fish and meat in the same place on a grill. That's grilling 101. How do I know they did? You can literally watch them grill from a foot away...could be cool if safe food handling was being practiced. The final issue with the steak is that it was completely undercooked. I ordered medium rare and got a mostly very rare to raw steak. A thermometer would have put this steak at 110° in most places. Since it was dry aged, it was still tender so not a problem. But if you're going to charge me $80+...you better bring your game and know how to cook a steak. Long story short...skip the steak. They don't taste like Prime. They don't taste like 30+ days dry aged. They don't season them. And they cook them on grill where you get the taste of everything but the steak. If you like a weird, thin, tangy, undercooked steak - get the steak and pay $80+ for it. Let's take a look at the sides. The asparagus...absolutely horrible and inedible. It was crunchy...not in the good way, the undercooked way. And it tasted like they cooked it in the grill ashes and put it on top of a burnt, gross green sauce I can't even explain. It was so smokey in a bad way, like burnt and carcinogenic. I love asparagus and couldn't eat it. It was the worse part of the meal. Do not get the asparagus. I also don't recommend the sweet potato "casserole." Nothing about this side is a casserole. It's stringy, canned sweet potato with bland seasoning and topped with chopped nuts (not mentioned in the menu, so not allergies be ware). The appetizer we had were the Johnny Cake Potstickers. Neither Johnny Cakes, nor a Potsticker. Just weird. Not bad, but definitely not good. I honestly don't know why they would put this on the menu. Just odd. So why even give this place 2 stars? The atmosphere is ok. It's an interesting place, but with weird sight lines that mirror a cafeteria turned Benihana. But it could be fun at the right time of year. The bartenders were really wonderful. Daniel made it a great experience and knows what he's doing. The other girl was wonderful too. I forgot her name. She's from Boston...I won't hold that against her. Daniel might be from Boston too, but don't let that turn you off. The drinks are actually quite good...aside from the lack of transparency on the pricing. I have never looked at a cocktail menu to see absolutely no pricing. Not a single martini or cocktail has a price listed. That's a real problem. My overall feeling is that this place has a lack of desire to serve quality food. All the elements are there for an awesome steakhouse in an unexpected location. One that actually dry ages their Prime meat and puts their grill and dry ager on display. The issue is an overlying ego thinking that high prices equal high quality. I told a manager everything was "eh, ok" and she walked away. That's all they care to deliver. read more

Chophouse 285 is such a beautiful new spot in Englewood, and it honestly feels like such a refreshing addition to the area. The ambience and decor are stunning! It actually feels like somewhere you'd go for a special occasion or just a night to get dressed up and enjoy a really good steak and something a little more elevated than the typical fried food or burgers in town. Don't get me wrong, I love my favorite beach town and local dives/happy hours, but this is such a nice change! We started with the shrimp ceviche and it was so good, fresh with a little sweetness and perfectly citrusy. We also tried the Huckleberry burger, the filet and lobster tail special, and the pistachio-crusted sea bass, and everything was delicious. The sea bass especially stood out with such a nice texture crust and flavor. The only thing I wish is that they had their homemade pastas with a red based/marinara sauce, but that is a very small thing. I think Chophouse is a great addition into town and I can't wait to come back! Give a try for a special event for sure read more

Chophouse 285 is a welcome addition to Englewood! It's an upscale space with a warm, contemporary ambiance. We've eaten here twice already and each time, had excellent steaks and service. I recommend the filet mignon, it was tender, moist and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The Brussels are nicely caramelized. Husband says the tator tots are the best he's had. The potstickers are a misnomer. They are two heavily breaded "bows" deep fried and probably 80% breading. More importantly, I asked for the double pork chop. What came was a single pork chop (See Photo). when I asked the floor supervisor why it only came with one bone., said she had to talk to the kitchen because she did not know. She came back and told me the kitchen said that's how they cut the double pork chop I'm all my years of being in the restaurant business I've never seen a single bone in called a double pork. They either need to change how they cut the pork chops or change the description. I realize if they just opened up five weeks ago and there's still a lot of service training needed. One last note. My wife wanted a dinner salad plate that all restaurants have as a starter. Not here. They only offer a large full meal salad for over $20. Big mistake. read more

We celebrated my birthday at Chophouse 285 this past Saturday, and it was truly an outstanding experience from start to finish. We were seated in a comfortable booth in a great location, which set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Our server, Maggie, was hands down the best we've had in Florida. She had such a warm, genuine personality, gave excellent recommendations, and went above and beyond to make the night special. We started with the bread service and the Krab Rangoon (per her recommendation), and both were absolutely delicious. For our meals: * The pork chop with a loaded potato and Brussels sprouts was incredible--the potato especially was phenomenal. * The pistachio-crusted sea bass with mashed potatoes and asparagus was outstanding, topped with a flavorful green sauce that really elevated the dish. * The filet (with added potato tots) was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Let's start with the positive . The food was good, not exceptional, not memorable. Nothing out of the ordinary. Review goes downhill from there. Let's start with the fact that we went in there 3 weeks ago to make the resevation. Specifically mentioned that it was my 70th birthday and that my daughters were flying in to celebrate me. We asked for a certain section and were told they could accommodate us. We were very excited to try this new restaurant. Fast forward, we were placed at the worst table in the restaurant, right by the access to the kitchen. We complained and they actually moved another couple to our table and moved us to the area we requested, which was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable for both parties. We were then told there was no guarantee that they could honor the request for the area we wanted....what's the point of making reservation in advance? Fast forward to the dining experience, the service was lousy!!! Ordered bread, which took almost 45 minutes to get. Appetizer came before the bread!! Our steaks were placed in front of the wrong people and our table was never bused. And the waiter for the most part disappeared. As a matter of fact, we weren't asked if we wanted wine or a second drink until halfway through our meal. Limited acknowledgment of my birthday, and while not expected, no comp desert or anything. So incredibly disappointing for the money we spent. You can find good food anywhere, but service is what makes the difference, and this was a huge fail. read more

We went back with friends a few days later on Super Bowl Sunday. I had a burger and was very good and the tots again which are yummy. Our friends got chicken empanadas and the mushroom appetizer. They liked the mushroom better than the empanadas. Overall a good experience so I upped the rating. We will go back for lunch or when we're in the mood again for a nice date night. One thing I will say is that we almost didn't go because open table only showed outside tables. We arrived to a 90% empty restaurant. Our server, Zoli, was the best! Very fun, knowledgeable, and professional...he truly is what made the experience positive! Also enjoyed the wine list, appetizers, and vibe! Tomahawk had no flavor. Salt was a plastic salt grinder, like you'd find in the grocery store and not served with a $150 steak (which shouldn't have even been needed). Leftovers are packaged in styrofoam...which also doesn't scream "steak house"...especially at the price point. went here for dinner on Friday night, Markus with a K was our waiter. he was friendly, informative on the menu along with being attentive. started with their version of crab rangoon. it was a combination of crab rangoon and a mozzarella stick. first bite you taste the crab, then you get the mozzarella, served with a very nice coating, crisp and tasty. our meals were the special lobster tail and filet for my wife, it came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. perfect meal for my for wife. lobster tail was big, she could not finish the filet, everything was perfectly prepared and presented. I went with the 18 ounce bone in ribeye, it was cooked as requested. it has a good taste and well marbled. could not finish it as it was too big. read more

We had a slightly irresponsible (in the best possible way) evening at Chop House 285 the other night. The plan was innocent enough -- cocktails and a little appetizer. You know... a quick, civilised pop-in. Fast forward a few hours and -- surprise! -- we're still there, fully committed to a full-blown meal, several rounds of drinks, and absolutely no recollection of making that decision. It just... happened. Daniel, the bartender, was entirely to blame (and we thank him for it). Charming, knowledgeable, and clearly far too good at what he does -- the kind of man who makes you trust him when he says, "You'll love this one." And then suddenly... you do... repeatedly. And I have to say -- I was so impressed. He made me a proper Clover Club cocktail -- the famous gin drink we have back home in England with raspberry, lemon, and that dreamy frothy egg white top. That gorgeous pale pink, silky, raspberry gin delight that I absolutely love... and I was genuinely surprised he knew how to make it so perfectly. Points for that alone. What started as "just one" turned into "well, we live here now." Honestly, we are thrilled (and perhaps slightly concerned for our self-control) that Chop House 285 is right here in Englewood. We did an array of appetizers -- the bread board, the Buffalo Chicken Empanadas and the Southern Waygu Meatballs -- talk about a great start, not a crumb was left behind! Then we ordered the 18oz Dry Aged Ribeye, 13oz NY Strip Wet Aged, Braised Beef Pappardelle complimented by sides of Rosemary Fries, Mac and Cheese, Bourbon Sweet Potato Casserole and Brussel Sprouts -- every bite was delicious. Finally, we concluded with the Cowboy Cookie Skillet. The food was all so good that we forgot to take photos!! (Aside from the Cookie Skillet :)) The service was just as impressive, especially our server Anna, who was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. There were many"I'm sorry" and "thank you for reminding me" moments. No bread/butter offered- at these prices one does expect bread and butter. NY strip excellent, friends did not like the ribeye-mushrooms were very earthly- maybe tone down a bit with some cremini, Mac and cheese delish, mashed potatoes a bit too smooth-but this is a preference. Very good wine choices. Chocolate bread pudding was very good- the vanilla ice cream could use an upgrade. First, you need to pay for bread? Every thing is an upcharge. The ribeye was not worth $80, no rib cap. The baked potatoe was odd. We had made a reservation for 4 to celebrate birthdays. It took awhile to get waited on and we were tucked back into a tight corner of the room. Three of our party members ordered the prime rib special. The prime rib was flavorless and lacked seasoning. A baked potato came as a side with the special with no butter, sour cream, nor even salt and pepper. I ordered the 8 oz. filet and it was super small in circumference and only half an inch thick at most...much smaller than 6 oz. filets that I have had at many other steakhouses. The filet also needed seasoning and had no flavor. I ordered the loaded baked potato, which came as a whole uncut potato. It had a tiny smear of something creamy on the top with 3-4 shreds of cheese and two very small dried crispy onion pieces like you use to top green bean casserole. We asked our waitress for salt and paper, which she politely delivered. While we were dining, our waitress came back and asked if she could take our salt and pepper to another table. When paying a top steakhouse price, you expect small conveniences such as salt and pepper. We have never minded paying a premium for a great meal at a steakhouse or a fine dining restaurant but unfortunately this was not it. read more

No bread delivered to the table. It was nice to see a new place in Englewood but pretty sure we will not be back I can get a better steak at the LoneStar steak house. This is a beautiful place and nice addition to area with a nice ambience/vibe inside for dinner. Unfortunately our main courses showed up minutes after our appetizers arrived due to miscommunication between the kitchen and server. They took the mains away and clearly stuck them under a heat lamp. Whilst the steaks were ok, my halibut was over cooked, the caramelized white beans a dried smear on the plate and overall like warm temp. For the price expected better.
