Returned to the Chop House again because we wanted to try the new soup and salad bar. I couldn't resist the cheese log appetizer again (cut down into large nugget size this time) - and it was still amazing. The salad bar can be purchased separately for $12.99 or added to an entree for $5.99. I was feeling gluttonous so in addition to the appetizer, I went with the NY Strip w/fries and mac n cheese and added the salad bar. It was for research purposes for the Yelp community! Rest of family did sirloin steaks with baked potato and green beans. Did I mention gluttony? The salad bar was fantastic - a bargain as an entree or ad an add-on. The soup choices were all great but I went with the chili (delish) and the baked potato and bacon (very good) and the fried biscuits and apple butter were great too. I may have had three. Or four. Another good trip and we were very pleased with our food and our server - we will return but might need to reign in how much we order :). read more

Oh! My! Wow! What other exclamations can I think of to put here? I literally just finished dinner at Chop Shop. I only found out tonight that they even had a restaurant. I thought it was just a butcher shop and bakery. I'll start of by saying that the sandwich I had was so much more amazing than I expected. And dessert. OH, so good! I expected as much, given what I think I know about the bakery. Dinner was pretty simple overall. There were a few hiccups here and there, and I was going to dock a star, but darn it, that sandwich was SOOOOO good! My partner had the pulled pork sandwich, and I had the pulled pork burger, which was a very generous portion of burger, pulled pork, and bacon. Kid had the kid's burger meal. Service was good, and we were immediately informed that they were having problems with the Co2 for the fountain drinks. Bah. Well, lemonade for one, chocolate milk for the other, and water for me. They actually had cold Jarritos drinks on the butcher side, and either that or some other beverage would have been nice, but they weren't mentioned. Those things are bound to happen from time to time. Have I mentioned how good my sandwich was?! One of the things that really impressed me was that the pulled pork without BBQ sauce still had good flavor. I've often had pulled pork that only had any flavor once sauce was added. The kid enjoyed her burger, but had to pluck off unwanted toppings. They had lettuce and tomato on there, which wasn't listed on the menu. There was one other little hiccup with the meal, but it was handled well. Here's a plus! When you dine in, you get 10% off the bakery side. Want a delicious cupcake? Some cheesecake? A little strawberry rhubarb pie? They've got you covered! I got a slice of red velvet cheesecake, not knowing exactly what to expect. What a great combo that was! It had the red velvety goodness mixed with the creamy cheesecake. I don't know how they worked that magic, but they made it work VERY well! My only other personal note is the large number of TVs going. It didn't detract much visually, but just enough. I'm guessing they get good game crowds, and since they host the IU coaches show, they may get a pretty loyal crowd for IU games. In any case, this HAS to be my new go to. The prices were reasonable, the food was AMAZING, and the meat is sourced locally from Fischer Farms. There is a pretty good variety of meats and other food items to choose from while you're there. I don't know how long the restaurant has been part of Chop House, but I'm glad it's there. It's definitely a hidden gem! read more

Visited Bloomington & looking for a great steak - not a chain restaurant. We found Chop Shop online and the menu looked great! I love prime rib! And what better place to get a steak dinner than right at the butcher shop, right? Wrong! We made a reservation for 4pm Wednesday evening, before a show. Reservation was not needed. We were the only patrons. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. First glance didn't offer much curb appeal. We entered on the butcher shop side to a very well stocked dessert display, lots of refrigerated salumi items, charcuterie, an empty seafood case and a sparsely stocked meat case. The restaurant is to the right and looked new. We were seated immediately and ordered appetizers & drinks. We ordered the smoked butcher board, beer and wine. The servers were not familiar with a couple of the wines, but provided a sample. Drinks & the board arrived in a timely manner. The butcher board was 3 smoked meats and sauces served on a thick butcher/cutting board. Great concept and the food was good. Now to the main course! The entire reason for choosing this restaurant - prime rib! We placed our order and the server returned from the kitchen to inform us they were out of prime rib. NOT a good start. Ok, cowboy ribeye...server returned from kitchen to tell us they did not have that item either. Apparently, those menu items are for holiday or special occasion dining only - but printed on the daily menu. We ended up with filets - which was ok, just not what I wanted or expected from a butcher shop. The three of us were the only ones there for breakfast until 10 AM. The last time we were there the restaurant was transitioning from Wagon Wheel to BB's Market. The transition continues on. This location serves as the hub for the chain of restaurants in Bloomington and Bedford. They prepare the meats and the desserts for the other locations. They smoke meats at this location so you have fresh bacon and ham every time you eat there. They have a delicatessen and offer other specialized foods. This location has plenty of parking. The breakfasts were great. They make their own biscuits and rolls. They offer biscuits and gravy daily. Found this new space as I am always searching for new breakfast places in Bloomington. Located in a strip mall and at first drive up, not sure what to expect. When we stepped in, cool market, meat and dessert section to take what you need home. We went to the new area for the restaurant. Great new space. Tables had an awesome finish and look. It was really quite when we arrived on Sunday at 10am so love to see that space activated and more energy. Our server was really prompt and helpful. I asked for what were there best items for breakfast and she recommended the two items we already identified...Breakfast Skillet and Tacos of champions She did recommend we get a side of sausage gravy for the skillets so we decided to just get the Biscuit and Gravy as a dish we shared along with a side for the skillet. I had the Tacos of Champions with chorizo. The tortilla was amped up by grilling with cheese. The chorizo was sliced with casing. The flavor of the chorizo was solid and really enjoyed my tacos! Potatoes were the side dish and they were good not great. They were dry which was surprising for breakfast. Both my husband and son asked for bowl for the skillet. The skillet is really deconstructed...everything sits on top of a ton of potatoes...meats is on side and needs to be cut up to incorporate. It is mostly potatoes and without the sausage gravy would be very very dry and flavorless. The Biscuit and gravy helped the overall meal. The gravy was the star of the show and had great flavor. Sadly the biscuit tasted like it was several days old and hard as a rock. Could eat the top of the biscuit but even the gravy couldn't soften the base of the biscuit. Not sure that breakfast is there space which makes me sad as I really would like it to be. Will try again for lunch or dinner as really rooting for them! read more

I had brunch here a few months ago. I was so excited, but left very underwhelmed and disappointed. I expected better quality food (and better plating). My waffle was rubbery, and the fruit I asked for on top was a few slices of strawberries laid out flat on the waffle's surface. The server did bring me a bowl of strawberries, blueberries, and bananas after I asked, which was nice. For a $10 waffle, I expected it to at least be better than fast food, but it didn't even meet that bar. The person I was with got biscuits and gravy, which were also underwhelming (dry biscuits, what appears to be pre-made gravy). Despite being only 1 of 3 tables there (a total of 6 patrons) the service was very slow. 2 stars for being spacious and seemingly clean, and for the bowl of fruit. read more

Gave the Chop Shop restaurant another chance. Had come a couple times for early lunch with a buddy and was pretty good. Have now brought my wife twice on a Sunday afternoon and garbage. Food might still be good but service is as bad as there is in town. The kitchen has terrible timing, that is if you get the actual food you ordered which failed twice. Seems a place that wants to drum up more business so has been heavy on social media but then don't have staff to support increased patrons. Excellent! Couldn't complain. I had the omelette in the middle of the day around brunch. The omelette was seasoned with great proportion. Definitely coming back. They had allot on their menu for breakfast, lunch, and diner. Sheesh, good stuff. Plus you can shop for other desserts, meats, bakery etc. The restaurant in next to the shop inside. Not bad. Have driven by for several weeks, not realizing what it was. I don't know how long they've been open. Looked for reviews and decided to go. Grocery store on entry. They had fresh seafood. Large section of cupcakes in cooler. Hot sauces. Lots of goodies. Restaurant to the right. Empty when we got there before 9 on Saturday. Surprising. Very roomy, nice setup. Beautifully done. We ordered the Hungry Hoosier and Banana Hazelnut French Toast. As you can see from pic there was just bananas. I was expecting Nutella. Our server said apparently you have to request it additionally? The french toast was dry, flavorless, disappointing. She brought me a serving of Nutella and it did help but no, I would not recommend their French Toast. The Hungry Hoosier was just okay. My husband ordered his eggs over medium and they were over hard, no runny yolk. All together disappointing. Guess breakfast isn't their meal. We will try them again. This is the first time that my husband and I eight at the restaurant we really enjoyed our time there and the food was very very good. I had the fillet sliders and I thought they were delicious. I did ask for more of the horseradish sauce which made them even better. We will definitely be back many times. read more

This place is such a hidden gem and it is a CRIME that more people don't know about it. The food is great quality, the ambiance/decor is beautiful, and there's a huge variety of homemade pastries and cuts of meat you quite literally can't get anywhere else in Bloomington. The cashiering staff are a little bit awkward, but it's a new place and I know it takes a bit of time to adjust. This place would be doing insane numbers if it was in the city square, and it deserves to be. Genuinely one of the best dining experiences I've had in Bloomington since living here. The food should have been amazing. The menu looks delicious. However, everything came out over cooked and/or burnt. There was a new server but as the only patrons in the restaurant I was surprised we had to flag her down for drink refills. The manager reduced our meal and gave several reasons for the burnt food. She said they never have complaints (except for last night when someone else said their burger was overdone). Honestly would love to give them another try but it's a bit expensive to have another round of inedible food. While we we're leaving the manager absentmindedly asked if we wanted a box for the food we strategically ate around then said wait you don't want that! We came into town for an IU game and wanted to try a nice steak in the area beforehand. For curb appeal I'd give it 2's because it's in a strip mall and doesn't even look like a restaurant until you walk in and through the room where you actually dine in. For overall design inside- I'd give it 4 's. The butcher shop and little area within that was trendy, and all the meats and other items were displayed well. We are from out of town and didn't buy anything due to the distance without a cooler. The restaurant portion was off to the side in a completely different area. When we called we asked if a reservation was needed- because why not?...it was a Friday night and we wanted to eat and make it to the game by 5:45, the hostess said it would help and we made it for 4:15. When we walked in there was no one eating....which is never a good sign when you advertise you have a great steak selection. No reason to take a reservation. We were seated and ordered drinks immediately. A beer on tap and a strawberry lemonade. The beer came, we placed our food order and I assumed the other drink would come right up. Our waitress wasn't anywhere to be found nearly the entire time we waited for our food- which took 45 min. I had a sweet potato on my order that was hard as a brick with all of two bites on the inside and was smaller than my hand. When I mentioned I had not gotten my drink the waitress said there wasn't anymore syrup to make it a strawberry lemonade and I could have regular lemonade instead, I declined. Why not tell me that after you let me sit for 45 min waiting lol?? There was 5 different steaks on the menu and prices were decent. Not well above or below others. The meat itself was great. Cooked perfect and seasoned just the right amount. My husbands food was fine but the time it took for us to get our food from the time we sat down was almost an hour- why??? We were literally THE only people in there eating and another family arrived just as we got our bill. Rest of the menu and the bakery cakes/bars looked really good but we were too full. Fun and interesting spot for lunch or a dinner and solid food. Had to order last minute for 160 people for breakfast at the stadium and WOW! They pulled this off with very little notice. From the crew to the execs, it was a rave. Everyone was super happy! First time in. We wanted to try a new place in Bloomington and saw some good reviews on Yelp. This is hidden in an unassuming strip of stores - but go inside! (Look at the photos) We started with the wings in buffalo sauce and ranch side - very good. The buffalo and ranch were really good. Best wings we've had in Bloomington. I had the Cobb Salad - they were out of pulled chicken so I went with the pulled pork. I thought the pulled pork was very good. The dressing on the salad was very good too - has some spice to it. The guys had the sous vide chicken sandwich. They did not care for the chicken - didn't think there was enough spice. They both agreed that the fries were very good. My husband looked at the steaks as they went to another table - he said they looked good but were priced a little high. They have a great looking dessert selection - but we didn't try any. They have only been open since June '23. Definitely give this place a try. We will come back and try some other dishes. They also have a full bar in the dining room side. This is a place with quality food and a unique concept but the worst branding/ signage ever. We stopped in because we thought it was a butcher shop, which it is at the front of the space. Also a pretty delicious looking bakery space. The second room is a pretty modern, clean, hip looking space that houses a casual dining restaurant. The Hoosier Poutine was a hit, so much so my husband asked for more gravy, said he could eat it with a spoon our server was helpful and conversant- she agreed with the branding / signage issue. Party of 2 went twice in last 8 days for breakfast. First time out the meat lovers omelet and the country fried steak plate were ordered. For the omelet all of the meats have a great taste. The smoke on the ham is flavorful. All the meats have the kind of taste you would expect from butcher quality meat. The breading on the country fried steak was great as well. Portions were huge. Today the order was taco plate with chorizo and the sizzling skillet. Again, both plates were very, very good. I give 5 stars but if I had to find fault the breakfast potatoes are not crispy at all...good flavor with peppers and onions but just not crispy. Staff took care of us well! read more
