It's a cute little place right at the end of Downtown Denville. We didn't notice anywhere to sit and eat so we took it with us for later. Everything looked very good and the staff was nice. We got a Madeline and I forgot the name of the other item we picked. We would go back again.

An exquisite French bakery in Denville, New Jersey. We splurged on magnificent Croissants: Nutella, Chocolate Almond, Hazelnut, and Strawberry Chocolate. Wow! Superb!

    Temptations abound !

I'm enamored with everything I have tried but ladder I saw something new and it has become my new favorite. It's a croissant muffin combo and when I gave my wife a taste, she too became a fan. Try one, you'll thank me later.

Did we really need another reason to visit Denville? Yes we did! This is the French pastry shop we didn't know we needed! Pastries are a thing of absolute beauty. And even better is the taste! No need to book that flight to Paris. The owners are delightful and you haven't lived until you've tried one of their flattened croissants! The only downside is that it's quite small and there's no place to sit inside, however the town does provide plenty of outdoor seating for that latte and tiramisu croissant!!! Reasonably priced too. (Soon to be opening a much larger space with indoor dining.)

Today was the first time I stepped into Chocolatine (though I have had a couple croissants previously) and all I can say is "Wow" I'm no world traveler, but I have had some amazing pastries in Rome and Portugal and let me tell you, they know what they're doing at Chocolatine. As someone trying to lose weight I probably should NOT have gone in, but I'm hooked. The place is small, and only has takeout (I would have loved to have sat down with an espresso, but alas...you can't), but the staff are super friendly and helpful and the options can be overwhelming (I wanted one of everything). We simply overindulged - Wifey got a salmon croissant and a chocolate raspberry croissant and I got a croque monsieur and a chocolate almond croissant - so we both got a savory and a sweet. The croque monsieur - think a baked ham and cheese with an extra slice of cheese melted on top. And the salmon croissant was a regular (but long) croissant with Boursin cheese and salmon on top. We had both planned to eat half of our sweet treats and save the rest for later with tea or coffee...NOPE- couldn't out it down. Again...I should never have walked in...I may be doomed

Look at the air pockets! Could use another baton though.

A proper French bakery in Denville, who knew?! The viennoiserie prices are fair, and the croissants are well proofed and buttery. The chocolate croissant could use another baton of chocolate though. We enjoyed the raspberry, chocolate croissant more. We found the dough to be airier as well. The plain croissant was ok, the dough was slightly tougher, but they don't skimp on the butter from the look of all the air pockets between the layers. We tried the almond croissant hot out of the oven. There was a lot of frangipane. I would like a little less as it gets too sweet, but that's personal preference. Overall a solid bakery and a fantastic addition to Denville shopping area.

I saw this place on Yelp a few days ago and knew I had to visit soon. Yesterday I stopped by around lunchtime to check it out. This is a small store with all the pastries in a display case. Everything looked decadently delicious! I chose an "Opera Cake" and "Vanilla Bourbon". My wife and I had them in the evening and they were fantastic! My favorite was the Opera with its espresso/coffee taste. They also sell little beignets for $1 each. I picked up a raspberry one for a quick snack. Loved it! The star of this place is the croissants. They looked so good. I'll be making a return visit soon to try those out! The woman serving was very helpful. Stop by and have a taste of Paris in Denville!

Honestly this place is a hell of a drive for me. While looking for new coffee shop I found this place. If you have seen my reviews I will for whatever the reason drive an hour for new places. So yeah, I did that. These pastries were so pretty I just had to come and see. It's a very small place with no seating area and while they do have an espresso machine, it wasn't the most inviting and it wasn't really the reason I was here.. So, I stuck to the good looking pastries and snuck them in to a coffee shop in another town It was as delicious as they look.

Happened to stumble upon this place when I was in the area. Their window display caught my attention so I went inside to check it out. OH. MY. GOD!!!! Macarons, pastries, croissants GALORE. I was in awe of how beautiful everything in the case was. It was hard to pick just a few items to get. The woman behind the counter was extremely sweet and talked to me about where everything is made, what's popular, and what she personally enjoys. Can't wait to come back to try some more.

    This make me drool...

Love it!!! I had been seeing this place popping up in my social media and I was like I need to go check it out!!! We went in the afternoon (30 minute) before they are closing.. so the lady behind the counter apologized to us saying whatever we see is what they have left!! I mean it's not their fault!! But they really do care about it their customers!! They have so many different kind of favor croissant.. plain, double chocolate, strawberry (never heard of!!) and I am sure they have other fancy one that was sold out!! The plain croissant was soo delicious -- So flaky, yum... my son ate almost the whole thing.. strawberry was good.. very interesting... it's like strawberry jam inside croissant!! I need to go back to try other pastries!! And since they have a small private parking in the back!! No need to worry about looking for a spot in town!!

Have tried their fantastic baked goods at the Sparta Farmers Market and finally had a chance to stop by the store. Everything I have tried has been GREAT! My wife is a huge fan of the Nutella Croissant, it has become her go to item. The GIANT THICK Chocolate Chip cookie was wonderful. Had the Brioche roll with dinner and it to was fantastic. Basically go here, get stuff, all of it has been great!

These are the best French pastries in town, and probably the best French pastries this far west of Manhattan. You can see the work that went into the presentation of each good. You don't get layers like this without folding in the butter over and over again. That's what disappoints me in the end about the chocolate croissant I got. It deserved to be crunchier and flakier than it came out. I was thrilled by the selection inside: macarons, Nutella croissants, juices in clear glass containers, and tempting pastries, like the opera in my photos. There's always customers in there when I drive by. Chocolatine is destined to be a Denville destination.

Such beautiful pasties! We got both the hazelnut and the raspberry beignets, a pistachio croissant roll and a raspberry and chocolate croissant. The hazelnut beignet was a bit more dense than the raspberry. I loved the raspberry--it was like a mini jelly donut. The pistachio croissant roll was heavy, due to the filling. The filling paired with the crispy layered outside was a nice juxtaposition. The raspberry croissant was not very raspberry tasting, and there was just a little bit of chocolate inside, but the parts that did have both were yummy.

So as any normal human being would do at 10 am on a Sunday morning, you would at least check it out...right? So we did. All my fiance was saying was how cool the colors were and how everything was so bright and colorful on our way up the steep stairs. I guess you have to get a work out before you enter sweet heaven. Once we finally entered the medium sized bakery, it's not your typical bakery you are thinking of. After a little perusing it felt as though we were walking into someone's kitchen. We were greeted by the owner, Lisa, and chatted about her business which just started up. Their niche is biscotti, cookies and some cakes. She had us sample a few of her biscotti. They were awesome. So much so, that we ended up buying 2 of each (there were 8 varieties) for a family function. Some definite's: Lemon Bliss, Chocolate Hysteria (Dark Chocolate w/cayenne pepper -- strange combo but fantastic!), Almond Joyful and Sicilian Sunburn to name a few. Check out her site to find out more about what's in them. She even let us try her homemade pignoli cookie...chewy, soft and delicious! I would highly suggest giving this place a try. They do not have Italian pasties or bread so don't think it's a traditional bakery. Plus you can go downstairs to Sweet Expressions and gorge yourself into a chocolate coma. ENJOY!

The brownie I didn't even get to taste, and I couldn't get photos of anything either b/c hubs tossed it all in the trash after making a frownie-face over the not good brownie place. Light, fluffy, not too sweet, with a messy but delicious showering of powdered sugar. I would definitely stop by for their fresh, fluffy beignets to be eaten fresh because they make them fresh with every order! Just for their amazing beignets, it should be 5 stars. My friend also got a chai latte, which my friend actually really liked. She said it was one of the best she's ever had. I tried and it was really good, just super sweet. Taste-wise though - delicious! BUT I gave 4 stars because when I went, they were out of the other things I wanted and it wasn't clearly advertised so the poor girl helping me had to keep telling me sad news, one after another. I wish there was a sign stating if something was unavailable or they should've put away displays if items were not available. My friend wanted gelato because there was a picture of it displayed, but they said they didn't have that. Is it only a summer thing? Were they not serving gelato just for that day? I don't know, it was just unavailable. They really should not mislead customers by displaying the picture of the pretty gelato (the picture looked really good!). This also meant that I couldn't get the affogato because they weren't serving gelato. Again, the menu didn't clearly state they were not serving that drink. I also stopped by here specifically because I saw an Instagram post that their hot cocoa was one of the best. The "toasted" one was the one I wanted, but it was not available because they didn't have the marshmallow. Again, that one wasn't covered with a sign that it was unavailable. I ended up getting a drink somewhere else. Also, when we wanted a receipt, the girl helping us said it wasn't working. So it was just a bad timing that day. Poor girl was super nice as she delivered rejections, but I was still constantly disappointed. Again, if I'm ever in the area, I would definitely be back for their beignets and hopefully that next time, the menus will be more clear about what they have and don't have. Things to know before you go: -They have a lot of different donut flavors and fillings, which I didn't try. But make sure to prepare enough time to wait for them to be made fresh and depending on how busy they are at the time you go. It looks like it's worth the wait because so many people got several donuts. -There were about four 2-person tables and one table for 4-5 people and a couch for 2 people to sit snugly. So, not the best place for big groups.

So this must be one of the best IceCream places for miles, and IT IS! When we came in & got our ticket, we were # 56. The # they had served so far was 35! I had the mint chocolate chip w hot fudge. But by the time I was able to sit down on their bench in the store, my hot fudge had mostly melted my IceCream quite fast. So I went to the counter to ask for half a scoop so I wasn't eating icecream soup. The girls behind the counter said to ask JOHN, an owner(his dad is also an owner) & when I showed him my melted icecream & that I would pay for an extra scoop, and you know what JOHN said? He said they can't add it to my existing cup & turned around (to my surprise & delight) scooped up a "healthy size scoop" into a sept cup, ON HIM, $0!!!!! I told my husband- omg, now he has a customer for life! So cool! That one act of kindness was sooo nice. And we chatted (even tho it was soo busy - he took the time to answer my questions about the how long it take to a big jug/gallon container and he said 15 min- from start to finish! And he said he loves his job bc he can make as many flavors/combos he can think of & it turns out to be a real creative process. I asked about catering & they don't do that, but you can order as many gallons as you want. He even shared how the NY Giants (I think that was the team-lol) ordered a BUNCH of gallons for an event they had! He & all his employees "the girls" were soooo nice. And the icecream? I've never tasted ice cream that was so creamy & the choc pieces/chip were to die for!
