If you're like me, selecting the "right" chocolate can be a difficult decision. Here, there are no wrong choices and the server never made me feel like I was taking too long. This review is exclusively for the afternoon tea. I am very cautious about leaving reviews lower than 3 stars. Unfortunately, the afternoon tea at Chocolate Secrets was disappointing in every aspect. When we got there, we were seated at a table that had no napkins or silverware. The plastic wrap was still on the plate of sandwiches. We didn't have glasses or tea cups. It took asking several times and waiting over 10 minutes just to get napkins. That was only the start of the problems. They had a good selection of Harney & Sons tea bags, but it took a long time for them to come around with the water and it was lukewarm and even cold every time they refilled our cups. One of the members of my group didn't get a teacup. When she asked for one, she was brought separate tea and didn't get to use the tea she had selected. It was confusing. The food was sparse and not very good. We had a better selection than some other reviewers, but I didn't think any of the food was of the quality it should've been. The service was sub-par - it took asking several times to get basic things we needed like napkins, utensils, and tea cups. The entire experience felt like it was thrown together last minute, from the table setting to the food. I highly recommend avoiding the afternoon tea. They either need to make significant improvements or get rid of the afternoon tea completely. read more

One word to describe this place.. AMAZING. Came here on Sunday as a surprise from my boyfriend. We love that this place is black owned and the staff was super friendly, sweet and helpful. Hands down the best chocolatier cafe in Dallas. I was feeling a little depressed that there just aren't that many local chocolatiers. We made the trek down here and boy it was SO worth it. First off, the friendliest crew here and super nice explaining all the chocolate bonbons and truffles. We picked out a bunch to create our own customized box and then got chocolate covered pretzels and the dark chocolate SLATE with nuts. Nut lovers, you're gonna flip... it was insanely good. We also wanted to enjoy some coffee and they had full bar so ordered a latte and an americano, both perfect pairing with the chocolates. My 9 yo didn't feel like chocolate and had strawberry ice cream and usually she has trouble finishing her ice cream and I am telling you, she ate up the whole bowl. I don't normally give out 5 star reviews.. but this place is so awesome, I couldn't Not give 5 stars. In fact if it was an option, I'd give 6!! read more

Short hit: Must try. I live less than a mile from here, but oddly enough, I've just never made it to this place (kicking myself again as I write this). Alas, I was having dinner nearby and opted to come here for dessert. If I am being honest, my first impression was a little lackluster. When I walked into the establishment, there was slight foul odor (almost like sulfer, or something else from the water line), so I had some fear that the smell would make it's way into the taste of the chocolate. That said, as soon as I got to the counter, all of my fears disappeared. For a second, I forgot I was in a chocolate shop, and thought I was in some sort of art museum: the chocolates are just so beautiful. I don't visit chocolate shops that often, but I've been to a few outside of the US, and none of those had the sheen that these chocolates possess. For a second, you won't be sure if you want to use these for decoration, or to devour, but once you smell them, the latter takes over. Taste: Normally, I don't have any difficulty picking out what I want. However, with so many intriguing options to pick from, my box of 9 felt like an impossible hurdle to overcome: how on Earth am I to narrow it down to that few? Being a lover of coffee and chocolate mixed together, I got a few along those lines. My absolute favorite was the Turkish coffee bonbon. Nice, shiny, crisp exterior with the most rich and flavorful filling. If you are a coffee lover, I definitely recommend this one. It's simply divine. I could keep going on, but everything I tasted was delicious. Price: Definitely on the higher side, but given the quality, I can justify it. These little candies take days to make and everything is artisanal and done by hand. Luckily for my waistline, I don't have a huge sweet tooth, but the next time I am craving something sweet, I will definitely be stopping by here. To the guys: don't forget about this place for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and Valentine's Day. It's been a very rainy day so, why not a great dessert to brighten my day. When I arrived at Chocolate Secrets, the parking was tight. And with the rain it was even tighter. There was a single driver in a white Mazda that decided it was a great idea to double park and thus blocking the flow thru the parking area. It gets worse. Now finally inside, I wait in line and wait and wait. Even though I am next to be served, I get passed by a family of four. Never mind me. When finally attended, I ask what cakes are left for the day, because the display case looks pretty sad. I am told carrot cake and plain cheese are left. I order the carrot cake, two truffles and two very small chocolate cookies to go. $21 and some change later, I arrive home with a hopefully delicious carrot cake, two small cookies and two truffles. IT WAS NOT A CARROT CAKE ! IT WAS CHOCOLATE CAKE! Dang ! The cake was passable. Tom Thumb actually makes a better chocolate cake. However, the bigger disappointment were the chocolate cookies that were stale and tasted like what I can only describe as CHOCOLATE PASTE. I have not tried the truffles. Maybe, I will write a review on those. To sum it up, Chocolate Secrets was not good on this rainy day and probably not good on any day. read more

Definitely on the pricier side of Dallas chocolates, but wow! I ordered a cappuccino as well as a truffle and four bonbons. The cappuccino was lovely and paired wonderfully with the chocolates. I'll list the flavors below. 1. SALTED CARAMEL: this one totally melts in your mouth. The flavor is fabulous and definitely worth a try 2. LAVENDER PEACH: honestly not my favorite. I definitely got more peach than lavender and was disappointed that I couldn't taste more of the lavender in it. 3. ANCHO CHILE: holy wow this was spicy! My friend just took a small sniff and was surprised by the intensity. It was my favorite by far and I'll definitely be back to order more of them! 4. EARL GREY: this one had a good flavor but again it wasn't enough lavender for me I like my lavender to be prominent I guess... it did have the slight fruity pebble flavor that our chocolatier mentioned. Such a great spot! I live close by, so love coming on a night for an easy drop-in. The live music/jazz area has such a great vibe and the crowd always enjoys themselves. I also enjoy coming here and just sitting in the main "lobby" or outdoor courtyard area for a casual stop with my husband. They have a great selection of wine and some great self-serve coffee. First and foremost the chocolates are very good. The Bananas Foster and Spoil Me ganache chocolates were tasty and pretty. The main issue is the pricing and general ambiance. Whether you buy 2 or 50 chocolates you are paying more than three dollars each. The owner/manager is also aloof and generally dismissive whenever she is behind the counter working. I stopped here to quickly grab some macarons for my friend's bday on my way to her house. I hadn't been before. It was hot and humid so I had my dog in my arms and clearly was just grabbing my macarons to go. The guy helping me was very kind, and answered my questions about the flavors and some of the other items I asked about. A lady came by, the same lady who didn't greet me when I walked in, and said I need to hurry because dogs aren't allowed. I paid for my macarons and left knowing I definitely won't be back. I loveeed chocolate secrets. Came here on a date and then liked it so much that came back the next day for date #2! We didn't see the patio outside on the first day but did on the 2nd. If you want to try all the chocolates, then you might have to make a couple of visits because it was way too much for me to try all of them in one visit! there were a couple of favorites but I like the names of all the chocolates--creative and funny. The ice cream was the surprise factor for me---I only ever get chocolate anywhere else but they didn't have pure chocolate so I had to get something else and I chose to get the summer peach and it BLEW my mind! It was sooo good---I was expecting it to be meh and also a sorbet bc that's how fruity "ice creams" are....but no, this was a legit ice cream with real peach slices in there and they were so sweet and fresh and a nice surprise in the ice cream. They have a large selection of wine too! You can buy by the bottle or glass. They also have large chocolate figurines to buy... Not so much of a selection with hot drinks. Now it's our anniversary and she went back to Chocolate Secrets. Their flavors are delicious, perfectly balanced, and imaginative.
