Since Choco-Latte was open late, we decided to stop by for a treat after a long day in Acadia. The interior was spacious but cozy, with lots of comfortable seating options. There was line to order, but it moved fairly quickly. My sister and I each got a Mexican Hot Chocolate, as well as a Blueberry Danish and Sea Salt Caramel Truffle to share. Service was friendly, and the Hot Chocolates didn't take long at all. We both loved our Mexican Hot Chocolate - great flavor, not overwhelmingly sweet! The Blueberry Danish was also tasty, but I'm sure they're much better in the mornings when they're freshly baked. The place has a lot of charm and a lot of nice art on the walls, including the bathroom walls. We had a bagel - overshmeared with creamcheese -- and the avocado toast, both of which were good. I recommend the sourdough option for the latter as the whole wheat bread did not well support the avocado topping. Latte was great. We'll be back. read more

The coffeeshop is located on the outskirts of the downtown area. When I entered the shop, it was busy as a line was forming down the steps to order. I ordered cafe de olla and maple oat. The service was fast after I ordered my drinks. They didn't label the drinks so I had to ask the baristas which one has oat milk instead of whole; wish they would label the drinks. Every single add in costs so much more money:/ Keep in mind none of the drinks came sweetened. You have to pay extra to get it sweeter or use the sugar packets to make it yourself. There can be a line in the morning around 8:15am, but it usually went fast. You can also order online and then there's an area of the counter inside for online pick up orders. There's free wifi, and I saw several people working on their laptops. This ended up being our favorite coffee spot in Bar Harbor. We came here three mornings and I tried the Mexican Hot Chocolate (yum with spices), the White Hot Chocolate (yum and sweet), and the Horchata (yum and thick) which is listed under the hot drinks but it's cold. It was more like a smoothie consistency and really filled me up like a meal. We also tried the breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. The service was terrible and the food was hit or miss. We went to Choco-Latte during the off season. It was on a relatively slow Saturday morning in April and there were three or four people working the counter. It's what the other poor reviews said--they got the order wrong and were not helpful. The clerk apparently didn't put my coffee on the order and they were not helpful when I asked about it. My pastry wasn't great--it didn't taste fresh, almost as if it had been in a freezer for too long. The avocado toast was good though. It's really too bad because there aren't a lot of choices in Bar Harbor in the off season and this place could be so much better. read more

It's a real pleasure to be there in the off-season and see what a regular part of people's routine it is. The only negative is in the service category. On two consecutive visits, our order was incorrect both times. If this doesn't bother you, then 5 stars! If it does, ask for the order to be repeated before paying. It almost had too much going on and was slightly bitter. I was expecting something smoother and sweet. I also indulged in a hazelnut truffle because once I saw it in the window, I knew I had to have a taste. The chocolate was a step above the coffee. Very smooth and rich filling with a slightly bolder chocolate exterior. Very tasty, but not enough to ever wait on that line again! I skipped out on a breakfast sandwich because that would have stranded me there for at least an additional 20 minutes according to the staff. Pretty glad that I passed considering the coffee left something to be desired. I guess I'm in the minority because it seems like this place is all the rage. My brother and I waited over 35 minutes for two lattes, which was incredibly frustrating--especially after we checked in at the 15-minute mark when we noticed others who ordered after us were getting their drinks first. Despite bringing it to the staff's attention, there was no apology, and our order was still forgotten. It can get busy, so we ended up sitting outside, which is great for people-watching. I'd visit again, for that danish and try to more flavors of fun fall drinks. It's a good find for what it is. We had a very hard time finding a cafe that we could work from with indoor seating and that was spacious. This place is packed - all day long.
