My friends and I were in Pacifica and wanted to grab coffee, and I'm glad we chose Chit Chat Café. It was a rainy day, but it just made it feel even cozier inside. There was live music, which we were not expecting but it was an awesome surprise. The musicians were grooving and clearly had a familiar audience before them with who I imagined were the regulars. I ordered a chai with almond milk, which was too sweet for my liking. I prefer more spicy chai, but this one at least had a chai flavor. Make sure you check the pastries, the one my boyfriend was going to get was moldy. We ended up getting a bagel instead. There was enough seating for my group of 8 and it wasn't too busy. I'd definitely come again for the chance of catching those amazing musicians again and hopefully the sun is out the next time I'm here! read more

Staffed by one person. At least he was nice and patient! But, sadly most things were out of stock; not lot of bread options, meat options, or bagel options. The ambience needs work but I can see its convenience for folks that need a quick bite when they are fishing for crabs. Probably the best coffee shop in Pacifica. It's located right on the ocean directly across the road from the beach. Some days you can watch paragliders flying along the cliffs out front. They oftentimes have live music in the afternoons. There's lots of seating and in the back of the coffee shop there's a comfortable bench with lots of cushions which is a pretty comfortable area to get some work done. The staff is always super friendly and the coffee and snacks are great. read more

I do love this spot...just the frustrating part is that the wait can be awhile but worth it. Past week I came for a decaffeinated drink, yet barista accidentally made it with caffeine so she re-did the drink which resulted with having two coffee drinks for price of one! The staff is extremely rude. I just wanted a quiet place to eat lunch, I saw that there was an hour gap in the schedule where there would not be live music playing and was assured by the staff before ordering food that there were be no loud music until 1pm. As soon as I sat down with my food a trumpet player began randomly screeching his horn to uncomfortable levels. All I wanted was a quiet few minutes to eat my food and relax. When I asked the staff about it I was shouted at, mocked and generally made to feel completely unwelcome. It was an upsetting experience and I never want to go back to this place if that's how they treat people who ask them quiet questions of concern. Also there were people actively smoking on the premisis, in the doorway, in front of open windows, making the place reek of cigarette smoke, which was unpleasant, and I was informed that this was normal and that they would not be doing anything to change this either. I did not respond to that, seeing the sort of place this was when people try to bring things to the staff's attention. read more

So I can't fault most things here: the staff is pleasant, bathroom is clean, food is good, coffee drinks are great, everything is reasonably priced. For all these reasons, I recommend you come and support this little business. So why the "eh" rating? The...BAND. THE BAND. Okay, it's not like I don't get it. I sense a strong age 50-60+ retirement crowd coming here and enjoying their tunes, and friends who tag along with them and buy aforementioned coffee drinks. But for the rest of us? Just... I mean... this past Halloween, I come in and there looks like a 5-piece band that include amps and and a drumset. To paint a picture, the cafe seats at most 20-25 people. You don't need drums and you don't need to amplify that music. It is well heard in the room. You do not need a microphone. I feel like I've left the same comment for years now about the music, and at first I felt like I'd just stumbled upon a quaint live show, and how great that was because what little cafe in the middle of nowhere has live music? But now on my annual pumpkin trip up the coast, I realized I'm going to have to change my time-honored tradition of stopping at Chit Chat because that noise is just oppressively loud and relentless in how often these people play. I've said it before and will again: want to keep the band? Maybe do 1-2 soft instrumentalists, MAYBE a singer. But this isn't the Hardly Strictly or Jazz or Oldies festival, you do not need every last band member inside this tiny cafe. read more

Come for the Sunday afternoon community live music performance with singer and instrumental accompaniment, whale watching, and lots of elderly in the community come out and dance and pass around chocolates. Also a good place to grab a quick sandwich salad and coffee while doing some reading or work. Salads are good. Service is pretty prompt. read more

Great bagels and coffee. However I sit here on a weekend morning and there is only one poor girl working.. I'm a life long Pacifican and whole heartedly support small businesses. I've been waiting for over 35 minutes for a bagel- The girl behind the counter is really working hard and is doing an amazing job, but perhaps there could be additional help, even just for a few peak hours on weekends? Still open for drinks in the daytime (during COVID). My favorite locally owned beach cafe (and also the one closest to home)! *Note you need $5 minimum to use card, which isn't hard if you grab an extra pastry. Parking is usually not hard given a strip of beach parking across the street, and the Safeway Manor parking lot on the other side if you really can't find anything. All the baristas are nice and give awesome recommendations if you ask. They have decent coffee here, homemade baked goods, and a small menu of toasted bagels/sandwiches. My favorite drink happens to be their mocha (with soymilk for me!), [light] iced or hot depending on my mood. There are no frills, but I love how there's that extra-chocolately taste Ghiradelli chocolate powder in the mochas--just the way I like it! This chill coffee joint has been around since I was growing up, and I have found such an appreciation for it now I need coffee shops for studying for med school. It's pretty relaxing and they almost always have a few tables open for me. The views are pretty nice when I need a break from staring at my screen; I can look straight out onto the beach. The only thing you have to watch out for is that it can get pretty hot when the sun shines in late-afternoon. The reward for migrating between tables for shade is that you get the nice sunset! On weekends, it's a nice social setting if you come for their live music (mostly suited for older crowds), though not as great for studying. Given the times, we really need to support our local businesses! This is one I will continue to grab a drink from so I don't lose my study spot for the future! read more

Ginger, the owner, is very accommodating and just plain down to earth. This place happened to be hosting a live band Strange Muse. I ordered an oat milk cappuccino. The cappuccino itself was okay. The barista was really friendly and the shop definitely gives eclectic vibes. If you get a spot by the window, the ocean view is stunning. I would go back for a drip coffee, espresso drinks just may not be Chit-Chat Cafe's style. read more

There are two locations for Chit-Chat Café: one by the Pier and the other by Manor Drive behind Safeway store. This location is the latter. There may be some confusion as I see some of the photos posted for this location are actually for the other location. Oh well, that's just me being anal. Now that's out of the way, let's talk a lil' about this place. It's a nice, charming coffee shop with an old time vibe to it. The people that frequent this place appear to know each other and have a community feel about it. Its several yards away from the edge of the cliff, and you have an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. The view of the ocean would be a lot nicer if it doesn't have that cyclone fence around it, but I'm not knocking this place because it has nothing to do about this place. Let's make that loud and clear. Besides, that fence is there for safety reasons as it's just a matter of time before the sea claims that portion of land. Aside from coffee, they also serve hot cocoa, tea, Italian Soda, sandwiches and pastries - which I have yet to try. On certain days, I think they also have bands playing here, so it really has that small town community feel going for it. The coffee is priced very decent and their coffee is pretty good. I usually order the Soy Latte and although it could be a lot creamier and robust, it does the trick. They have plenty of tables and chairs and includes free Wi-Fi so you can work or surf on your laptop or portable electronic devices and be anti-social, or choose to interact with the nice people around you. All in all, a nice relaxing place with a view of the Pacific and occasional local "bands" playing music ain't too shabby of an experience for a cup of Joe. Solid 3 1/2 stars. read more

Beach town funky!!! Love this place. I have been playing music at the Chit Chat Cafe over 10 years and I love this place like my home. I have been doing the 2nd Saturday Sing The Beatles show since 2011. It is the home town, funky, beach town, off beat feel of the place that is what drew me to it and has kept me there. In a world filled with corporate everything it is really nice to see a home grown, family run business thrive in a wonderful town like Pacifica. I recommend coming in for food and drink and music. The Facebook page is the way to plug in to this place. People come from a radius of 50 miles to be here regularly, that tells you something. Reality says it is all not perfect here but what is unbeatable is the location next to beach, whale watching, funky beach town vibe, a friendly staff and owners and a sincerity to be a positive part of the local community. I think this place is a gem, maybe in need of a bit of polish, but a gem nevertheless. I love it and am so lucky to be close by. read more

We stayed outside SF in an Air BNB and it wasn't too far from this cafe. We walked, which wasn't that far away. They had quite the selection of food but we were plain and got PB&J bagels. Just want to start off saying I love this place. I have came here with friends and family since 2008 and have always had positive experiences with chit chat. I love the live music & environment, I take my younger siblings here as a treat. Today I came in for an iced coffee and noticed both owners and a handful of individuals (3-4) weren't wearing masks, one of the owners being behind the counter. On the front door is a sign saying masks are required. Luckily the young employee who helped me was wearing a mask. I usually have to add a little sugar but this one was perfectly sweet. And my husband ordered a triple decaf cappuccino that he thoroughly enjoyed! Nina helped my husband (Monk) concoct the tastiest breakfast sandwich I've had in a while... Dubbed the "Monk Especial", it's a spinach, basil, egg scramble + cream cheese + ham + tomato on a bagel! The quality of this cafe has plummeted in the last 5 years. Coffee, bagel combos, service, pretty much everything. I dread going here on the weekends because the place is packed with people sitting down to listen to the live music, which is always a weird vibe. I get going for live music, but please try and leave some room for customers who are there for to go orders. It's loud and hard to get around. I recently went and it took over 30 minutes to get my coffee and bagel. And my order was still wrong. I want to support local business, but going there is painful these days. read more

Lived out my Mischa Barton OC dreams by hanging out at the Bait Shop (i.e. Chit-Chat Café) at the pier this morning with my baby. Staff held the door open for me so I could maneuver the stroller inside. Prices are great, staff is super friendly and helpful, coffee is solid, and there are tons of food options. The ambiance is a charmingly worn coastsiders dream, complete with deteriorating vintage green stools.
