I'm writing this review based on a experience I had a few months ago. Dr. Phan is a life saver. One afternoon I bent down and my back just cracked or just did something. I could barely bend my back up and was in pain. I got home and the pain continued so the first thing I did was look up a chiropractor. I called Chiropractic First and Dr. Phan made time to see me that day. When he got to treating me, he explained to me exactly what was wrong with me. Getting into the details of where I was hurting, how severe it was out of a problem, and the severity of that specific problem. Dr. Phan was extremely caring and thorough in his explanation and explained to me what I would experience and how long it would take to heal. I was pretty immobile for a week with his help, without it I would have been in much worse shape and probably have been on my back for who knows how long. read more

I've been to a couple chiropractors and this is the first time I talked to the doctor for 20 minutes, had my backed worked on for 10, and then for the last 30 minutes I was on a machine roller bed with these patches that sent out currents and contracted my muscles. From my point of view, I didn't pay $60 to be lying on a machine for 30 minutes which isn't specialized and catered to my back issues. That machine did the same thing over and over again, and it didn't hit some key parts which were hurting. For all the other chiropractors I've been too, they worked on my back the entire time and I was able to give them feedback. I feel being on a machine isn't for everyone, so this is just a heads up for anyone else thinking about going. Also, I'm sure there are people who are perfectly happy with this as well--it's just not my cup of tea. read more

Dr. David Phan has the best staff of any of the places I've been to. I started off with the Groupon 1 hour massage as his office is close to my office. I had this older petite pinay who when I first saw her didn't think she can handle my body. A few minutes into it...I FELT HER POWER!!! She was very strong and knows all of my pain areas. Needless to say, I prefer to soak in a hot or cold tub before a massage as it makes it easier for any masseuse to work on softer muscle and tissue. For this REASON Alone I prefer a Korean spa before a massage. Dr. Phan is a pretty built guy and no one probably should mess with him. So I knew that as a chiropractor he has the strength and endurance to adjust my entire body. He stretches me out as well as hits all of my sore spots. He spreads a thin layer of BIOFREEZE to help with the treatment. As an athlete I find myself needing adjustments as my workout regimen takes a lot of out of me. Coming here I find my balance. After the adjustment he would either use the TENS (Muscle Stimulator) on areas where you need it and/or ultrasound. The rolling massage table in conjuction with the TENS is the most relaxing after your adjustments and massage. This place will change your thinking about Chiropractors. In the past we'd go to Chiropractors when we get into a car accident and need help. Today...I find this place revolutionary in getting me to go on a weekly sometimes bi-weekly visits. BTW....I bought a 60 visit pack... That's how much I believe in this place and the changes that it will bring in bettering your standard of living. read more

First time coming to Dr Phan based on his YELP reviews. He was actually my second choice since there was another Chiroprator closer to my house, althought not as highly rated. Boy, I should have came here first and save my time, money and additional angst from back spasms. I've had numbness behind my left shoulder blade and at times a sharp pain for some time and thought it would work itself out. Well it didnt. Dr Phan knew right away what my problem was and spent close to an hour on my back apply accupressure and some kind of magic to relieve me of my problems. Recently I've been getting splitting headaches from weight lifting/high intensity workouts. Straight to the point -after a detailed consultation, Dr. Phan determined that my issue wasn't related to muscle, bone, joints or tendons (the realm of a chiropractor). He was honest and said my problem was probably vascular with cranial pressure as a likely culprit (the realm of a MD/neurologist). What was great was that he still performed one of the best adjustments I have had since I can remember. I have a harden mid/upper back from years of doing squats and Dr. Phan was able to crack the whole entire area with 3 precise like karate pushes. There were a multitude of other adjustments too. Dr. Phan is amazing! I've had bad migraines and neck pain for couple of months. I needed to be seen so bad because I couldn't take the pain anymore. I called on a Saturday and I got the spot the same day. And because it was weekend, they couldn't run my insurance. I was kinda hesitant at first but because I needed it badly I still went. This was my very first visit to Dr. David Phan and his practice Chiropractic First, and I must say, this is a hidden gem in the City! He is very thorough in his examination and talks you through all possible issues that could be causing you back pain in your daily life. He is extremely friendly and totally relatable. Dr. Phan was a referral from my boyfriend. He got in a car accident and found Dr. Phan on Yelp. My boyfriend had pretty bad whip lash from the accident and could barely turn his head or lift his chin up and down. He saw Dr. Phan about 4 days after the accident and started feeling better after two treatments. He has gone in for about 7 sessions and feels better than before the accident. I saw how happy he was with the doctor and decided to check him out myself. I have sharp pains in my lower back I get when working out or overextending my back. I would get them about once a week for about 4 months now. First impression. The place is very clean and the ambiance is tranquil. Dr. Phan is courteous and has water, magazines and he warms up the room for patients. He is professional and holds pleasant conversations. I have gone for about three sessions now. First he has you lay on a table and he rubs your back out for about 5-7 minutes. He applies cooling lotions. He then spends about 5-7 minutes cracking your back or neck ,shoulders. Every treatment for me has been different in the sense of what he cracks. Also, since he knows I have lower back he showed me some stretching exercises to alleviate the pain and does them with me at the session. Then they move you to another room and you get electric therapy while you lay on a massage table for about 30 minutes. I haven't felt my lower back pain since I started going. I think a few more sessions and I will be good to go. I am very happy I got to meet him and his staff and learn how to treat my back better. He also had a carne asada for his patients on vday. To say-the-least, both my wife and I were 'blown-away' by Dr. Phan on both a personal and professional level... Upon arrival, he immediately took me into the room to lay on the roller table, then Joanna gave me my massage. I just wanted to give an update. I have been getting treatment for my back condition from Dr. Phan for over 1.5 years and I am still seeing him for treatments. When I first met with him for a consultation, he was very concerned with my condition and wanted to help me. Unlike other chiropractors who I had seeked a consultation with prior, Dr. Phan was not PUSHY at all. He told me to think about what I wanted to do and wished me the best whether I seeked treatment from him or not. He explained the chiropractic treatments that he would perform to improve my condition and gave me an honest prognosis. Each session begins with either a chiropractic treatment or roller bed therapy followed by the other. I usually prefer to be worked on first so I can then relax on the roller bed while receiving electric stimulation on my back. I've been getting adjustments for a few years now and having been to Dr. David only twice I can already tell he is the best I've experienced. This review has definitely been long overdue. Whether you're aching from long study sessions, buried in a textbook or in pain from long hours in the office, hunched over your workstation, Dr. Phan is your best bet. I've been to a couple other chiropractors in neighboring cities but none have even come close. Typical chiropractic care administered by others will probably be completed in 5 to 10 minutes before they herd you back to the receptionist to collect their fees. On average, Dr. Phan personally spends 30 minutes providing a combination of chiropractic care and a deep tissue massage. This is then topped off with a 30 minute power nap on their heated roller bed. You'll leave here feeling like a million bucks and for inconsiderate people like me, he'll probably be able to squeeze you in with a same-day/within-the-hour appointment too. read more

I usually do not write Yelp reviews, however I almost feel obligated to write one for Chiropractic First for the wonders Dr. Phan did on my back. I was involved in a car accident (hit and run) on the freeway, and I was experiencing back pains on my lower and mid back area. I was truly scared that this pain was something that was going to persist for a while, so I gave Dr. Phan a call and he penciled me right away. I went the following morning, and met with him in his office. I described the accident and the pain I was feeling in detail, and then he started working on my back. I am not going to pretend like I know what he did, because I don't...but what I do know is that he alleviated my back pains. He stretched me out, cracked my back and neck, and did diagnostics to see how severe the injury was. Luckily, he said that it wasn't anything permanent nor was it anything I should worry about in the long run. After meeting with Dr. Phan, his assistant set me up on this special bed that corrected my back. After 30 minutes of that, I felt 100% again. Pros: Friendly staff Understanding and caring Extremely easy to make appointments (he will even see you the same day if needed) Dr. Phan is simply a professional (no doubt about it) Cons: Absolutely none. I used Yelp to find a chiropractor in short order. My back was completely out of order, worst it was bothering me for a month. Looked on Yelp at four in the morning after a night of not sleeping. His business popped up with a good review and a web link. The website really grabbed me. It was honest and not fluffy like most of this type are. No promises of rainbows rather information from a person that treats this as a life long work. Dr Phan took my appointment first thing in the morning on his day off. Right away his professionalism showed clearly. The office is situated in a modern office complex, two stories. Lots of hallways and doors, unassuming. Dr Phan's door is open awaiting his clients, typically greeted by the assistant. He has a sort of old fashion type of office for health care, his desk and exam bed are in the same room. A very simple approach different from the multiplex medical building typical now. Dr Phan is very proud of his achievements in various endeavors besides his chiropractic practice of over ten years. He's into the martial arts, various sports, family, and community. And sports, he'll talk about the mechanical aspects of the sport. Theories of how the player could improve / make results. Immediately he takes a diagnosis of my pain. There isn't really much time for pleasantries, on my part. I don't say much when my body's lower portion is twisted up. A quick check of my condition points out the treatment of which he goes to work. Loosing up my spine and correcting the pinching nerve. The relief didn't come quickly, as he pointed out it needs to heal. A set of electrical stimulus pads we're given to me to use on my back muscles, help me at least sleep at night. Then I was told how to slowly stretch my spine to correct the herniating disc. After three days improved mobility. Now two weeks later I'm about ninety percent. I still have to go in for a bit more therapy. Yay, I'm a fan! read more

I have to say, Dr. Phan will touch you in many ways you never thought possible. The second he puts his hands on you, it's like the god's savior has descended from the heavens to rid your body of the evil pain that plagues you. Not only does he graciously listen to you, he cares and feels for you, like a mother kindling their children from the dooms of war. Okay back to reality. He's cool. Go to him if you have aching joint troubles. My sternum was cracking and it got to a point where it hurt all the time. He knew what was up. I left the first treatment feeling like whitegold drinking his badass milk. I've done around eight treatments and I believe it's all good now. I believe some collar joint problem came up so I'll have to continue treatments. He's up to modern times as well. He'll text you, e-mail you, and IM you. I have known Dr. Phan since he was a high school student and he is one of the most fantastic, dynamic, generous, integrity filled persons I have ever known. When I think of balance I think of Dr. Phan. Since his youth he has always managed to effectively balance his goals with his other endeavors. Many reading this may not know Dr. Phan is a very accomplished Tae Kwon Do Black belt. When in high school and Chiropractic College, he balanced his academic goals with teaching Martial Arts to Inner city at risk youths. As a very young man he could connect with his students in a way others could not. He gained the respect of many very challenging young adults and was instrumental in refocusing the course of their lives. It is important to note his charity was not just one or two students... but hundreds. When I read the input in Yelp over and over I see the words "he is patient, he listens to me, he took his time." That is Dr. Phan all the way. He was the same way with his at risk martial arts students. Another of his phenomenal qualities is he has never stopped learning. He actively seeks out knowledge aggressively. Dr. Phan sets himself on the cutting edge of chiropractic, holistic, and alternative medicine. He is a true student of these arts. I would never think about going anywhere else for my internal and external medical needs. My bet is he will remain this way forever. I have suffered from herniated disc for years and the lower back pain just gets worse. I found this place because it's close to home but it turns out to be the best chiropractor that I ever had. The doctor is very professional and easy going . After couple of sessions with him i feel less pain and with the correct exercise the doc had taught me helps me a lot too . Veronica really helped me ease my mind, body, and soul in just 1 hour. My back has its normal aches for such a busy day at work so I figured I'd get a massage. I called around 3ish and was able to have an appointment for 5pm. The place is located in a commercial lot so it could be easy to miss. When you walk in, you're greeted and offered a bottle of water. It's not a salon, it's chiropractic clinic. So nothing over the top implying zen this and zen that. Just a quiet, relaxing, comfortable room that is dimly lit with soothing music. I mentioned to her that I was ticklish and she explained that more pressure would best technique for my feet. She concentrated on my lower back cause I had described it as a problem area. And the head, neck, and shoulder massage was phenomenal. I could hear and feel all my knots in the shoulder blades and as she went over them again and again the sounds lessened and my muscles loosened up. That's good progress. Another plus to the massage is that I wasn't left greasy. I don't know what massage therapists are thinking when they are buying their lotions but I don't enjoy being as greasy as a body builder at a competition. She told me they are willing to work with my schedule if I want to get routine massages, so it's great that she has availability. If I could I would of rated 4.5. -.25 because there was no paper work involved - that bothered me. I just gave my cell phone number and name. I guess only chiropractic patients get paperwork but it's kind of saying we don't want to see you again since we have no other information on you. And -.25 for the loud laughter from the office that might of happened twice throughout my session. Oh, the session also includes rolling tables but I have had plenty of them to know I wanted to exclude it. I also got the yelp special which made it an even better experience. And she let me know that if you buy in advance you can get the same special pricing. Money wise and body wise, I felt so relaxed when I got home and laid in bed I fell asleep right away. read more

I was in desperate need of finding pain relief and went on a quest to find a local and trusted chiropractor. I've suffered from TMJ for years and recently started having mid and lower back pain. I woke up with with lots of tension and frustration and called as soon as they opened. Dr.D scheduled me the same day and literally worked a wonder on me. He was kind, patient and willing to hear about my pain. He also taught me how to manage my symptoms and gave me helpful tips to reduce pain/inflammation. At one point during my appointment, I began to cry from the instant relief my body felt. He was understanding and I felt absolutely sure that I made the right choice in coming to see him. I am currently writing this review after a 4 hour nap (still in bed)! My body is a little sore from the stretching and adjustment but I AM SO RELAXED. Dr. Phan is a very great and professional chiropractor. Our family has been patients of Dr. Phan for more than 15 years. I cannot say with certainty that he is the best chiropractor in the area, but I truly believe he is one of the best chiropractors that our family has met. That is why throughout the years as he moved his office around the local area, we have followed him as patients to each of his new office. He is very knowledgeable. I remember once I had this neck cramp when I woke up in the morning. I thought it would get better eventually, but I couldn't turn my head to the right at all for an entire day. I kept on massaging my neck, but it didn't help. The moment I told Dr. Phan my issue, he was able to pinpoint right away that I actually had a muscle spasm on my back that caused my neck cramp. It was a relief right away after I saw Dr. Phan. When I left his office, I was able to turn my neck to the right. Besides being so knowledgeable, he is a friendly guy with a great personality. Dr. Phan truly wants you to get better. He's a good listener, takes his time in providing chiropractic care and massage. He did detailed work on my painful tailbone and hip. He seems to easily identify the problem and offer's stretching exercises, so that the patient can continue to help themselves. I ended my treatments with a T.E.N.'s unit and a warm massage table. No wait or long lines. I get treated admittedly when i walk through the door. I practice mix martial arts and i alway show up with injured ankle and arms. I was massaged by the massage therapist named Robin. The massage was all right; however, the massage ended too early (30 minutes too early.) Fortunately, Dr. Phan made up for this mistake and I was re-compensated for what I paid for.That's pretty awesome, actually. Dr. Phan is a pretty chill guy. Has an accent but it isn't thick. Three weeks ago I suffered from bulging disc again for the third time, I was in extreme pain and couldn't stand up or walk. I found Dr Phan on yelp and decided to go see him after reading the good reviews. I didn't expect too much since my previous visits to other chiropractors did not help me much. But Dr Phan really helped me with my back problem. After two weeks of biweekly treatments, I was in good shape. Even though my back symptoms were way worse than the previous two times, my conditions actually improved alot faster this time with Dr. Phan's help. I had very bad back pain (lower) , and did not know why it was hurting. Only thought I had was, "maybe because my posture is wrong" or "maybe it's just for few days,,and it'll go away". However, this time, It didn't go away for months and even getting worst. first of all, I am a graphic design student and have a part time job that requires lots of sitting (6hrs just doing homework) and walking. I got to the point where I couldn't move my legs when Im laying down. I went to see different kinds of doctors, and they all told me I have a minor scoliosis. So, I was told to just exercise (Yoga!) for 5yrs.....!! They could not do anything about the pain because it is supposed to heal within couple years if I maintain good postures. Two months later, I was still suffering with my lower back pain. I was searching for a right doctor, and I met Dr. David! Of course, I trusted yelpers! Anyways, he was very nice and friendly. I could say the doctor is enthusiastic , young, and most importantly, honest. He'll tell you what kind of problems you have, and how to fix it effectively. For me, he told me that I have a facet syndrome which made all sense after all why I had that kind of pains. (By the way, he knew right away by touching my spine) I visited him once a week for the first month, and I still visit him one a month. The treatment is very relaxing and wonderful. You may not notice the improvement until couple of visits. For me, after first visit, it was so....hurting that I couldn't sleep. about after 4 times of visiting, it gradually got better. He recommended me what kind of exercise that I need to do specifically, and what to avoid during daily routine. Clinic itself is clean and cozy, it is not one of those overwhelming clinic that I've always afraid to visit. highly recommended! read more
