My overall experience with Chiropractor First could have been better. I was first introduced to them by a Amazon Local coupon deal and visited their office twice. Initially, I was quite surprised with how friendly and professional they were. The receptionists and front desk staff were very polite and they seem to know all their patients. I got an X-ray as part of the deal and was told my results on the followup visit. The chiropractor told me about my results and slowly and clearly explained what they meant. After that, I felt very awkward as my session soon became a high pressure sales session where I was asked to sign up for $2K of therapy sessions. I'm not sure who in their right mind signs up immediately, but it definitely isn't me, so I explained that I would think it over over the holiday and get back to them. I would not be bullied into making a decision. At that moment, the mood changed in the room and I could feel that I was no longer welcome. Within 2 minutes, I was out of the office... Not sure if they were having an off-day, but the experience leaving convinced me that I shouldn't go back. I am definitely looking for a chiropractor who can help me, so the hunt will continue. read more

If there were negative stars for Dr. Savage and his drive-thru style of chiropractic methods, I would give it... I have not seen this Dr. for a couple years and given the HIPPA in force, I would hope he has changed the way he sees his patients. Last time I was in his office he had mini cubicle style rooms set up and litterally bounced from one patient to the next, meanwhile everyone in the room can hear the business of that client... He has you with him for all of 5 mins and then on to the next... No thank you, I have moved on to a better chiro, and better health! read more

Dr. Savage and his staff are always friendly and professional, and the care is comprehensive. That is, Dr. Savage can be your wellness coach as well as chiropractor, and teaches general wellness equally as effectively as spinal health. The appointment schedule is always flexible, as well as the treatment and payment plans. As for my back, I walked in hunched over about two years ago, and am now upright and highly functional, playing sports, etc. I can truly say my overall health has significantly improved under Dr. Savage's care. I've been going to Chiropractic First for 4 years. I first went here on a recommendation to help my migraines. Having tried just about everything else under the sun, I gave it a try. This place has helped a lot. My migraines haven't completely gone away, but the chiropractic care has helped significantly. The adjustments have also helped all sorts of ailments that I wouldn't have though chiropractic care would. The people and so nice and Dr. Savage is wonderful. I now go every week for the 5 minute adjustment, because when I don't go my body feels it. My medical coverage does not cover chiropractic, so I pay out of pocket, but it is totally worth it. I'm a father, husband, and resident of the South Bay. I've used Dr. Savage off and on for over 20 years so I feel I have a credible perspective. I'm trained in physical science and many of my relatives are in the mainstream medical field. I've found using Dr. Savage's services to have aided both myself and my family members. My time at chiropractic first has been pleasant. They were very helpful from the beginning and helped to diagnose and educate me on my spinal health. While their service is not cheap, it does seem reasonable for the amount of times per week that I go in for an adjustment. (3x presently). I've rarely had to wait more than 2-5 minutes for one of the doctors to get to me. They're quite efficient at attending to everyone. I do feel that my back and neck issues have improved since I started here, and at the very least, I haven't felt the need to take any OTC painkillers for my frequent headaches since then. I used to have to take a double dose of excedderin to feel any better, but I haven't needed to do that in the six weeks I've been going to Chiro1st. That alone should attest to my improvement from their help. The office staff is always friendly and there to answer questions. My only issue is that the practice can be a bit pushy when it comes to referring people to the practice. I'm new to San Jose, so I don't have too many people to recommend, and I'm not comfortable asking coworkers to come in. Aside from that, 5/5! read more

Tldr: This practice is super sales-y! Be prepared to pay thousands of dollars up front and two appointments before any adjustments, which they don't tell you ahead of time. Review: I decided to try Chiropractic First because I was a patient before of Dr. Wiant when he had his own practice in San Jose. He was nice, easy going, and I was comfortable with him and he did a great job when I was having severe leg pain. My fiance also needed adjusting so we made an appointment together after I told him about my previous experience and how great he was. We made an appointment for that Saturday and were excited to get consults and hoping for adjustments since that's the experience I had previously with Dr. Wiant. When we arrived we were greeted by name and everyone was really friendly which is why this is a two star rating and not a one. After filling out the paperwork we had to watch a pretty cheesy 5 minute video about chiropractic care and why it's beneficial and what it does. I'd like to think if you're going to a chiropractor you'd already know how it works. It felt like a bad middle school health class video but every place has their quirks. After, we each got checked out by Dr. Wiant with x-rays, motion range tests, etc. At the end of the ~1hour long appointment we were told we'd have to see what the x-rays showed and a treatment plan would be made. Sadly, no adjustment but we made a second appointment for the following Tuesday to get the X-ray results so we thought maybe that's when we get adjusted. Forward to Tuesday, we both leave work early to get to our appointment. We arrive and then before getting our x-ray results have to watch another video about chiropractic vs pills, surgery, etc. Then we got our x-ray results. HERE'S WHERE THE SWITCH IS FLIPPED. After going over the X-rays we were going to each given a "treatment plan". But first, we had to let Dr. Wiant know how serious we were about chiropractic treatment...okay....We were serious about it but obviously it depended on finances which we made clear. My treatment plan was 3 appointments per WEEK (who has time for that?) for 36 visits over the next 3 months, with a few extra items (heel wedge, pillow, etc). All for a total of $3,600 which they want paid up front WITHOUT using any insurance. After telling Dr. Wiant multiple times that was out of our budget, he offered a "free adjustment" and that we should talk to their finance person. She'll ask you again how serious you are about chiropractic care and again. After telling her we can't afford to pay 3600 dollars each, she then told us to go home and budget to see where we could cut costs (which we had just done) and offered a medical credit card as an option. Solid no again. Today in the mail I received a letter making sure we "understand the seriousness of our conditions" and that basically we'll regret it later when things become more serious (said on nicer terms, but I'm translating here) If you do decide to go here, Dr. Wiant is still really nice and a great chiropractor. I wish he still had his old practice and didn't switch to this place. Luckily they gave us our Xrays, which I'll be taking somewhere else to get treatment that takes insurance and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Savage at Chiropractic First for almost 12 years now. I have always loved the office as well as his entire staff and do not mind the cubicle style set up that they have. Now, I have had some other health concerns come up over the years and Dr. Savage gladly made private appointments for me to consult with him. He also took the time to investigate my symptoms and make some excellent referrals to other doctors who could and did help me. I trust Dr. Savage as what I consider to be our primary doctor. He has treated me and my husband through three pregnancies and has always been a friendly and welcoming person. He also adjusts my three sons and has been since they were born. I feel that seeing a chiropractor regularly really does benefit our health both physically and mentally. We get regular massages there too and they are amazing! I love that Dr. Savage takes the time to acknowledge and greet other patients. Being at his office is much more laid back and relaxed as opposed to most doctor's offices. You really get a community and family feeling versus a stuffy clinic feeling. We will happily continue to see Dr. Savage for many more years to come and I recommend that you check out his office for yourself! read more

I got into car accident in fall 2011, and short time afterward my back problems started. I visited few offices before I decided for Chiropractic First. I enjoy the friendly atmosphere every time I come into office; furthermore, I didn't feel pressured into fast decision as it happened at some other places. They are an extremely friendly staff. I like that they have early appointments so that I can have my adjustment and then go to the gym and still get to work at a decent time. They are also very flexible if you need to come in for an extra appointment or reschedule due to a conflict. Very personable and knowledgeable staff. I initally found the office on yelp and seeing as at the time it was in walking distance of where I lived. Both doctors are personable with their clients and have a genuine heart for helping people not only get better but educating them on what they can do to help themselves. I have been under treatment with chiropractors for over 20 years. If I could give negative stars, I would. Ken is one of the most self centered, egotistical chiropractors I have ever seen. I know most chiropractors are rah-rah, healthy living, upbeat, yay great adjustment types, but this guy seems manic. He spends most of your adjustment time talking with patients in the bull pen waiting room, rather than focusing on the patient on the table. You have an appointment for 10am and you might be off the table by 10:30 if you are lucky, with only 3 patients ahead of you. That isn't a one time thing, but regularly. That isn't an "oops, several people had injuries and need some special attention". I tried scheduling for slower times so I could get in and out quickly, to no avail. The office is heavy on "if you don't buy this, you just don't care about your health, now that's not very healthy of you, is it?". There are mandatory Tuesday or Saturday meetings to promote whatever product or extra service he is pushing that week. I know chiropractors need add-on products to support their practices, but this is extreme. When I explained I had a class on Tuesdays and conflicts with my son on Saturdays, I was told I just didn't care enough about my health to dedicate to the entire package of services available to me and maybe I should reconsider whether I really had my health in mind. He has had a flood of newbie chiropractors just out of school who have run through the practice. None of them stays very long. One of the last ones left after I was on the massage table during a "team meeting" and I overhead Ken yelling at the newbie doc, berating him for one thing after another. I had to ask the massage therapist to go out and ask them to keep it down so I could have a pleasant massage in order to better my health. Ken's response was to berate the therapist and later tell me I mis-heard what was going on, this was team building and maybe I needed to come in at a different time if I didn't support his team building efforts. The last straw was the need to come in for adjustments that just didn't hold. His suggestion was that if I cared about my health I would buy a higher level of plan and come in 3x weekly, plus buy massages to improve my health. After I explained I could not afford to pay more, my complaints were met with silence or a response that I just was not dedicated to my own health. He runs through front office assistants like water as well. Tension between Ken and his staff is quite apparent. No office is perfect, but the tension is constant and those who work for him are scared to say anything for fear of him ranting and raving at him after hours. My family does not need that sort of negative energy or the suggestion that if we cannot pay thru the nose for treatment, we just don't care about our health. Ken is an incredibly bad example of what a chiropractor should be. Run, do not walk, run away from this chiropractor and this office! read more

I spent almost two months in extreme pain with all the muscles in my back spasming at once. I was bent over like a question mark. Worst of all, I could not lie down to sleep. I got about one hour of sleep every four hours while sitting in a chair. After a few weeks as a patient with Chiropractic First, I could feel the pain in my back from the muscled spasms begin to lessen. I was no longer bending my body at the waist. I was merely hunched over. A few weeks more into treatment and I can almost stand up completely straight and the back pain has almost completely gone. After Dr. Ken Savage coming to our park to give a presentation, I decided to go in. Well first they try to force you into a $3500 treatment plan, everyone at our park was signed up for the exact same treatment plan, hum? Then I went for several sessions that ended up being about less than a minute each. I tried to get a "chair massage" first before my appointment to loosen me up and they sternly told me NO, must have the adjustment first, WHY???? Then got really sick and couldn't go in for my next appointment. I called and told them that and they said if I don't come in that month I would lose my $40 payment. I could not go and called them again. They stole my $40 and even after writing a letter asking for it back, they declined. SO RUDE. I would NOT refer anyone to him and have shared my experience with friends of my in our park. Total ripoff in my mind. But hey, that is just my experience. read more

I'd never tried a chiropractor before and started having back pain. After seeing this great coupon for a first time visit, I thought I'd give it a try. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful as I filled out the forms. The assistant did X-rays and showed me how one of my legs was a little longer than the other, but reassured me that it was not an extremely uncommon situation. The assistant told me the Dr. would review the X-rays and get back to me. I didn't know what to expect the next day until... The next day, I received a call on my voicemail that the Dr. reviewed my X-rays and I needed to come back very soon. I ignored the message and the next day, Dr. Savage called and said he found something very "serious" and needed me to come in for an appointment. He called a third time and it sounded more like a sales pitch. I never made the appointment. A friend suggested I slow down my pace of my running for awhile and the back pain might subside. This was my first visit to Chiropractic First today. What a fun office of lovely people! I have been in a half dozen Chiropractic offices in various cities over the years and have never felt so welcomed or experienced such a wonderful atmosphere. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed by Ray who walked me through the new patient process (oh! they had my name on a stand welcoming me as a new patient. Very sweet). Everyone introduced themselves and made a moment to talk and ask about me. Really great touch and it felt real, not contrived. Fun music, good atmosphere which is always welcomed vs the typical cold/clinical feel I've experienced elsewhere. But, the best part was the professionalism and thoroughness of Dr. Gudilin. He took time to walk me through my xrays and discuss what he felt would be best and then offered a referral for a chiropractor that is closer to me as I live 45 minutes away and I'll need multiple visits over a few months. Amazing. Not once did I feel pressured to do a "package" and no one spoke over my head. I would highly recommend Dr. G and his staff if you're new to chiropractic care or looking for an awesome office of people to take care of your chiropractic needs. read more

I used to be a patient here at Chiropractic First and I can't wait to come back! I got a free evaluation with a Groupon deal and the whole process was so easy and informative. After getting the results of my consultation, I decided I wanted to go through with a treatment program to fix my forward head posture, my misaligned hips, and the pain I was having in my back. They offer many payment options and I did not feel pressured at all. They genuinely wanted to see me progress and get rid of the chronic issues I was having. I went through a 16 week treatment plan, 2-3 days a week. After the 16 weeks I can confidently say that I had never felt better. The pain in my back was gone, my hips - although not totally level, showed significant improvement, as did my neck. Not only did I feel physically better, but walking into that office was like walking in to see friends. The girls at the front desk remember your name and the doctors are the some of the friendliest people ever. You can tell they genuinely care about their patients. Unfortunately, I moved out of the area shortly after and have not gone back to see a chiropractor since. I recently came back to San Jose, and I'm looking forward to getting more treatments from the awesome doctors at Chiropractic First. read more

I want to first state that I did not receive any chiropractic service here. I'm giving two stars because I was basically "highly encouraged" to come here by their receptionist/sales people. One of my colleague's friend referred me to them, so when I made that initial call, they quickly gave me their sales pitch and informed me that they were having a "special." I was in dire need to get an adjustment, but in order to get a treatment, they go on to tell me that I would need to make an initial visit so that they could do an x-ray. Of course, I questioned this right away, but they insisted by giving me a comparison of "your back" to going to a dentist and having dental x-rays done. So their "special" consisted of an initial office visit costing only $20, where I'd get an x-ray of my back as well as a back exam consisting of back palpation to feel for tension, weight standing on two scales to see if weight is distributed evenly on both sides, and a nerve analysis at different points on your back). All this for $20 is a great deal, but that was the purpose of their pitch. At this initial visit, the chiropractor never even saw me. This office was immaculate, but appeared more like a factory. Their sales staff is certainly doing a great job getting people in. After my exam, the receptionist go on to tell me that I needed to make two more appointments right away. The next appointment would consist of the chiropractor going over the back x-ray/analysis findings preceded by an "educational" talk, and THEN I would get a treatment. BINGO...that's ALL I wanted...get the kink in my neck fixed! The next hurdle I had to encounter was the appointment time. It was either 12:30 or 2:30...very limited since the second appt only had set times. They also insisted that I would need a 3rd appointment made the following day, as they would need to evaluate me on my progress following the first treatment. I took the 2:30 slot.....so next appointment, where I had to leave work EARLY, I show up where they have the TV on and a set of chairs. One other patient was already seated. The receptionist proceeded to tell us that we were to watch a short, 8 min educational video. We were handed a headset where the audio for the video was transmitted. I'll save you from the details of the video. AFTER the video, Dr. Savage introduces himself and gives us another 5 minute talk about health etc. He's a nice guy I'm sure. THEN, Dr. Watson comes and takes me into the treatment room, where he goes over the x-ray findings, etc. No big surprises, I have back issues! He went on to tell me the treatment plan and the COST. Well, for $400/mo, I would initially see him 4x/wk. Well, needless to say, my mind kept hearing $400. How do I pay for this when I can barely afford the mortgage? He then tells me he's not in my network of providers for insurance? WHAT? I had double checked with the receptionist!!! He didn't even seem remotely concerned with the insurance issue. He then tells me his regular fee for an office visit was $50, and that he COULD give me a treatment, but if I was only planning on getting one treatment, it wouldn't even be worth giving me a treatment. Basically in short, he was telling me that he wasn't going to give me a treatment. So, to end this very long review, after wasting TWO office visits, I received NO treatment. I'm realizing that finding a chiropractor is like finding a good nail salon. They're pretty much on every block, and you have to find one that's right for you. I understand that chiropractic care is an ongoing process, but please, couldn't these people have been upfront from the beginning? read more

I have been a patient of approximately 10 different Chiropractors and Chiropractic First has a couple of the best Chiropractors I ever met: Dr. Savage and Dr. Bauer. They both have good hearts and good personalities. It is obvious they want their patients to improve in their health, lifestyle and happiness. Dr. Savage has seen me undergo emotional problems or stress and he kindly tries his best to uplift me with positive thoughts and they really do help.
