Wow the waitress was rude. She apologized, but fuck at that point I was done with the shitty food and awful service. Definitely not worth visiting. read more

Over the years I have been to Chips probably a dozen times. However, I will probably not go out of my way to eat there again. PROS: the Buffalo shrimp appetizer -- deep fried and pretty delicious CON #1: their "Taco Salad" and the waitress who waited on us in the bar area at our last visit (1/6/13). The description of their Taco Salad mentioned it had: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, beans, ground meat, lettuce, etc... Now perhaps it is my fault for ordering "mexican" from a pub...but this was the worst salad I have ever ordered in my life...What I received was a taco shell bowl filled with sour cream, guacamole and refried beans...now I know the description mentioned those items but I certainly did not expect the bowl to be filled with 1.5 cups of each condiment...I dug for lettuce (of which there was but a few wilted pieces underneath the massive pile of condiments) and saw no ground beef...I'm not sure about other people who have eaten taco salads before but that was certainly not what I expected... CON #2: The waitress who served us....I never usually send food back, but this "salad" I just could not eat so I told the waitress I would need to send it back because It wasn't what I was expecting...and she (the waitress) was so rude about it, I did not even want to leave her a tip (but we did leave 20% on a nearly $100 check anyway)...her response was "well, the menu lists all of these ingredients" (she huffed) -- yes dear, I know the menu listed the ingredients but it failed to mention that it was a condiment salad with a side of wilted lettuce if you could dig deep enough under the cream and guac to get it.... So anyway...I will likely not be back...not necessarily because of the "salad" but because of the waitress who was rude...I was a waitress once and there is no excuse for rude behavior... read more

The stars in this review go to their potato skins. Hands down, the best pub potato skins I have ever had. The rest of the food is not very good. We have been here twice. My fiancé had a burger and said it wasn't very good. The fries were cold and bland. I ordered the buffalo shrimp and was disappointed that the shrimp were super soggy and not very appetizing. I didn't really eat most of my meal. I have also tried the cheesesteak sandwich and I wasn't impressed. I also thought it was a pretty pricey lunch. If we go back, it would be for potato skins and beers only! read more

Horrible experience. This place has been going downhill for a while, but today was beyond bad. Both my chowder and BBQ sliders were served cold. The soup was disinteresting enough that I didn't want it warmed, and the Sliderstook so long that I cancelled them. They were served on supermarket bread that was too mushy to eat anyway. The kids nuggets are served from a bag, as are the undercooked fries. Both of these were served only warm after a very long wait. What happened here? And can you dust the fixtures, etc hanging over the tables? Nasty!! read more

Sat down at a table near the bar after nearly 20 minutes of no hostess. Tried to wave down a waitress (who clearly saw us), but we were ignored for another 15 minutes. Left. read more

I can't speak of the food but I can say when a family stands waiting for a table over 10 minutes with multiple staff walking by without acknowledging it is definitely a restaurant I will not eat at. There was no one else waiting and I'm wondering if the reason is because we are black......never going here again! read more

The quality of the food matches the dreary exterior appearance, yet the prices are scaled to the neighborhood's posh oceanfront real estate. And the service feels like a high school production of Midsummer Night's Dream - lots of smiles and giggles with a desperate, depressing and amateur effect. read more

We went to pick up take out at the bar tonight. The bartender got our order and opened the styrofoam boxes they were in to check and see if it was right. She did this twice. The second time, she didn't close the lid on the buffalo wings. She started to put the opened box in a brown bag when I asked her to close the lid. She looked at me, smiled a really weird smile, and continued to put the styrofoam box in the bag...I signed the receipt and walked out in shock. We get home and the wings are disgusting. The meat was uncooked. The rest of the wings will be going in the garbage where they belong. My chicken wrap was decent but didn't have the right cheese I asked for. I think it's safe to say that with the poor service and food we will not be returning. read more

Hit or Miss!!! I've been a regular here for over two decades but as of the last couple of years there is a real problem with quality control in the kitchen. We eat here often because the place is very family friendly and the waitstaff is generally really good. This is the only place where I have had to send the food back twice in one sitting because the fish was undercooked. The nachos are one of their best appetizers when they are prepared right but too often they arrive charred and burned, I am astounded that there isn't better QC. read more

If you like waiting 15 minutes to order a beer at the bar then this is the place for you. Incredibly understaffed. read more

Horrible! We sat around with no menus or service which felt like forever. Then when the waitress showed up she wanted a drink order but we had no opportunity to look at a list of cocktails. I wanted to order a glass of wine so Ashley, the waitress, decided to quickly ramble off the wines by the glass rather then get me a menu- which came later on. When she came back with our drinks she was clumsily holding onto the rims of all our glasses (were we needed to drink from) as she placed them down on the table, instead of using a tray or holding the bottom of the glasses. Then we ordered and waited so long for our appetizers which were served without any plates! I had to get up and find a server and requested them, yet when they came, the bus boy only brought us three plates and we were four people, so I had to get up again to get myself a plate. What the heck! It was obvious when he got there that he was short a plate, yet he quickly set the table leaving my guest without a setting and took off! All the while Ashley was no where to be found, yet when she stopped by the table next to us she served them their food, before us, yet they came in after us. She also clearly knew them as she spent a tremendous amount of time talking with the family every time she stopped by and ignored all our needs...just one table over. I also want to point out that we were sitting outside, this is important because the restaurant allowed people to smoke even in the underpass which is where all the tables were set up. Our dinners came out and I ordered "The Perfect Spinach Salad" which should be served with warm balsamic dressing, yet I got no dressing. Ashley this time circled back around, much to my pleasant surprise, to see how our dinners were, so I had the opportunity to request my salad dressing without getting out of my seat a third time, which I was really excited about. Ashley came right back out with the dressing but it was not warm. She served it in a small plastic cup - cold. Now, I have had this salad before, It's just salad unless you have the spinach tossed in the WARM dressing! Why would I want to pay $12.50 for this?! Then I get the bill and the wine prices are higher on my bill then stated in the menu. I'm done at this point - I never worked so hard to get what I needed while trying to have a night out to eat. I come to find out later that my guests dishes had their own issues. I will never return and I suggest you don't either unless you have connections - because apparently ONLY if you know the waitress, will you be treated as their guest. read more

Both the waitress and manager were EXTREMELY rude. Poor service=poor tip; don't chase customers out because they refuse to reward bad service. This happened to a friend and everyone who heard is appalled. Will never be returning again, and will be recommending others to do the same. Higher ups will be contacted. read more

I go here once a week. Good food, reasonably priced. There is something on the menu for everyone, it has a huge selection of all kinds of food. Portions are great especially for the salads. Nice bar with a decent selection and they dont over serve so there are rarely drunk people stumbling around. Service is good, friendly staff read more

Terrible, we went there thinking it would be good and I ordered a chicken enchilada and when I took the first bite I almost puked because the chicken was spoiled, ruined my appetite and my night. read more

I've been coming here for years and I feel like every time I do the service continues to go down hill. We waited about 5 minutes to get seated, no one seemed to notice we were standing by the door. It took forever to get our drink order as we were seated at the table in the back of the restaurant. The waitress was super nice but did not come over to use often and it took forever to get our food. I ordered the California Wrap and it was straight turkey and cheese that tasted like it was from the grocery store, about 3 pieces of avocado, no tomato and no mayo. I asked another server about the wrap because our server was no where to be seen, and come to find out the kitchen was out of tomato so they decided to say nothing and serve the wrap anyways. The waitress was nice enough to get me extras for the wrap but basic restaurant rules are to tell the customer when you are out of something that comes with their meal. Overall I was not impressed with anything. read more

Great salads, sancwhiches, and burgers, and generous portions!! The only thing I would say is the service is slow, but the food is worth the wait!! read more

Been going here since high school and love it! the waitstaff remembers your face and what you like to eat and if of age, your alcoholic beverage of choice! not many local places can say the same! Food is delicious - burgers are the best on the menu!!! Overall a great atmosphere for families or just for a friends night out! read more

I've only been to this restaurant three or four times and prior to this most recent visit, it was a great little place in the center of Clinton. This last visit, however, was an absolute disaster. From the moment we sat down the server was completely inattentive. It took at least 10 minutes to receive our drinks although there were only six booths occupied at the time of our visit. When we finally got to order, it took 40 minutes to receive our food. All we had were two appetizers and two sandwiches. No special instructions, no special orders, just straight off the menu. When our food did come, it was passable but not above average. The appetizers were cold. This is the first time in my life I left no tip at a restaurant. I don't know what was going on that day, but this was not the Chips that I knew and liked. I'm hoping this was just an anomaly, but based on my experience, I will never go back. Sorry to say. read more

I love chips, service can be hit or miss but this is a nice break from the super busy bars around town, I highly recommend the Buffalo Shrimp dinner or wrap. read more

Amazing little spot. Great bar and menu. The restaurant has many antique decorations that bring life to the place. We felt very at home for it being our first time there. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. They have a large selection of food items, all that have a special uniqueness about them. Portions are large so we were able to take some home to enjoy later! read more

The atmosphere is really relaxed and family friendly. All waiters were super nice- I asked our waiter about the French onion soup and he highly suggested it- it was amazing! One of the best I've had. I also had the wedge salad which was the usual iceberg/bacon/blue cheese combo- it was a good size. Pricing is very reasonable. We will definitely come back when we are in the area! read more

I haven't been to Chip's in years - at least 6 or 7....pleasantly surprised things are the same: fresh popped delish popcorn (I'm a sucker for it), a varied menu and friendly staff. I stopped in for lunch today with a friend and ate outside - it's a little area which they've really made charming given it's location off a sidewalk. We both had different versions of 10 oz. burgers and 10 hours later I am still stuffed. Best of all - well third best of all (first is popcorn, second is good) is you won't be rushed. It was a nice leisurely lunch and a good break on the middle if a very busy day at work. The best that can truly be said is all these years later Chip's is still serving quality food. read more

One of my favorite place and I always enjoy the food here! Sometimes they even give chocolates and balloons to kids.

I stopped here on a Friday night for dinner by myself. It was packed. I had to wait almost ten minutes before a seat at the bar opened up. The bartender was very nice and their selection of beer not too bad. I ordered a chicken philly sandwich, which came out super fast and was still pretty good. There were lots of TVs for watching games etc., but most of them had the same basketball game on. There was quite a wait for a table. Definitely seemed to be THE place to be for Friday night dinner in Clinton. It reminded me a lot of my own favorite pub in my hometown of Naples. read more

First time in for a Sunday lunch. Ordered 2 salads,Cobb and Chicken Pecan. Both packed with a combination of fresh veggies and meats and were huge! Fast and friendly service from the bartender. Price including 2 house wines and an iced tea was only $53.00. Will be back soon. read more

They just added menu items and their food is better than ever. The staff is fantastic and there is booze so you can't go wrong there.

They have their off days, that's for sure. But if you catch them on a good day, it keeps you coming back for more! I always get the Frank Purdue and Caesar too chicken caesar salad. Popcorn is free and perfectly buttered with the right amount of salt, though it can be stale and cold sometimes. Love that they have Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy on draft. Best draw: BIG salads! read more

Escellent atmosphere. The food was excellent. This place very Family friendly. I had the Anahi tuna sakad and is was to fie fir.

Chips is like an old, beloved couch; it may not be the most luxurious couch in the world, but it has comfort and familiarity and that's what matters in the end. I have not had a bad meal here and their craft beer list seems to be growing (a major plus in my book). All in all, a great place to have a beer and some popcorn with a friend or to grab a meal with the family. read more

You gotta go on a Thursday night. They have a magician on Thursdays and it's pretty cool if you like magic. Lol. Had a buffalo chicken salad. Hoping that it's good. I'm just disappointed because I ordered a Stella and I'm sure it wasn't poured proper in the Stella steps, because it came in a directv glass filled with no froth. So go in the buffalo chicken dip appetizer is awesome. read more

Chips' Pub III - American Near Me - Clinton, Connecticut

Been going there for over 20 years excellent usually...food has always been good. Lately (2018) have experienced multiple wrong orders and incorrectly cooked food. Unfortunately appears to be tied to a common person taking the orders. read more

Diverse menu, guaranteed to have something for everyone. My lovely lady and I tried the fish & chips, and one of the many specialty burgers. The fish & chips was outstanding - delicious!! Best I've had anywhere in the area, IMHO. Burgers are their specialty, and the one we had was really tasty, but I've had better. Don't get me wrong, it was really good, just not best in class. Overall, great place that I'll definitely going back to. Great food, fun atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Thumbs up!! read more

Alright there are two very good reasons to come here. 1. The ribs are the best ribs I've ever had in my life and they melt off the bone. I'm not even a rib guy, but delectable....2. If you're a wing guy, and I'm one of the biggest and IF you LOVE spicy challenges--go for their hottest wings. But when you order them, tell them you really want their hottest wings or they'll give you a softball version. Also, if you do get their hottest wings, the Bathrooms are decently clean. Try not to have plans the next day either....anyway....those are your top 2 reasons for Chips. Pub has a good feel to it, errs on the side of darker and quiet which I prefer and they serve popcorn as opposed to bread, so there is that. read more

I think the 3 star rating for this place is spot on. Definitely a family spot but there is a bar section if you want to be away from screaming toddlers. Not a super clean place but a FUN place. Our server was delightful and the beer offerings are impressive. The wraps we ordered came out super fast and that's because there is nothing special about them. Not bad, just nothing special. We liked the Mediterranean wrap more than the California. Should of had a burger! Will not hesitate to go back if in the area. Just be prepared for noise and a rustic pub feel. read more
