    the food being prepared

I hadn't visited this establishment in a very long time, but was shopping nearby so I thought why not! Oh my! I can not recommend this place. Have you seen a disorganized and messy kitchen? I know I have/ usually in my own house, but never when I'm in search of a place to eat. Honestly it looked like a few busy bees without their queen. Where are the managers or the adults, it was messy, unorganized, and just seemed out of norm from what I remember it. When you are looking to buy food you don't want to see a messy or disorganized kitchen. CLEAN should be a priority since they are serving food. Not sure who is to blame here, BUT this should be looked at by the supervisors. I can't say anything about the food yet... heading home to my untidy home to eat my bowls- update on food flavor to follow.

    Hair in the burrito bowl.

There was a hair in my food. DISGUSTING!!! Took one bite and saw it instantly. Not even a direct number to the store either. Do better!

Nothing but rice after I picked out all the fat.

I came in at 8:00 on a Monday 2 hours before closing and there were several of the food sections that were just completely empty. They're not even bothering to try to keep anything filled up here. They're all out of pico salsa. Just a little bit of dried up queso cheese on the bottom. The girl making my burrito didn't even want to go to the back to get me another kind of salsa until I asked again. The way they treat you is just like they could care less if you were there or not. I would skip this place and opt for a actual restaurant where they have the food in stock. A place that's not just going to give you whatever they have left lying around. When I got home I couldn't even eat the burrito because the steak was mostly all fat I was just constantly picking out fat pieces that I could not chew the whole thing was pretty much a waste.

Unknown physical containment in my burrito

After taking a few bites of my burrito last night, I found myself chewing on what seemed to once be a piece of cardboard like paper, or more like the paper that is used to make rice or flour bags, not entirely sure but disgusting either way. If that is getting into my food I can only imagine what else could be going wrong in that kitchen. Not only was there a physical contaminant in my food but the overall taste was off. My regular order was extremely spicy when it is usually pretty mild. Once I picked the piece of paper out of my mouth I couldn't finish my order and threw it away, $25 directly in the the trash. Thanks Chipotle.

The food potions. The bowl is only half way full.

I went in planning to order the $11.95 cheeseburger combo, but I swerved and got the gourmet western burger combo for $14.49 instead. Excellent decision. The skinny fries with the skins on came out steaming hot, and the burger was fantastic--a big, flavorful patty hanging over the edge of a fresh bun like it had something to prove. No gimmicks, no overthinking, just a solid local burger spot doing burgers right.

It's a small place, not fancy, but it felt friendly and relaxed, the kind of place that doesn't try too hard and knows what it is. Here are the details... *Service: everyone was very friendly. The guy at the front was genuinely nice, but he was pretty confused and confusing when I asked about the daily specials and pricing. He tried to explain it, but it made understanding what was what harder than it should have been. Nothing negative intention-wise at all, just a little chaotic and unclear. *Food: I ordered the burger medium rare, no cheese. It came out medium well with cheese and a very small piece of pineapple. Not exactly what I ordered, but it still tasted good. It had plenty of condiments, lettuce, tomato, a thin slice of ham, and mayonnaise. Flavor-wise it was solid, just not what I asked for. The fries were excellent. Crispy, fresh, and clearly made from real potatoes. They slice whole potatoes in-house with a slicing machine and turn them straight into fries, which I thought was really cool. They also had some kind of seasoning on them that made them even better. They have a lot of good burger options, plus chicken sandwiches, salads, and chicken strips. I liked that there was variety beyond just burgers. They also do a daily special burger for $10.99, combo meals are $13.99, and you can sub onion rings for fries for $0.99, which felt fair. *Ambiance: it's pretty clean, open, and small, about ten tables inside. It felt comfortable and simple. There are a few tables out front and a picnic table under a big tree, which is a nice idea, but it's right off the main street so it's not super peaceful. *Value: it felt like a pretty good value. The pricing made sense for what you get, especially with the daily specials and combo options. Nothing felt overpriced. *Overall: this was a solid but not standout experience. Friendly people, great fries, good burger flavor, but the order accuracy and confusing explanation of specials held it back. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. It's a decent stop if you're in the area and want something casual and quick. I added a bunch of pictures to help you get a feel.

And now to take a short break from finishing a jillion review drafts from the vacation we took in…read moreJanuary I'm still catching up from... to finish a review draft I started last *December*, on my way to visit my parents for Christmas in NorCal. (Conveniently, too, given we're driving the same route in a couple weeks - might well stop here again. It's definitely way better than the usual big-name fast food options that are your only choice for *most* of the drive.) I'd just try to make sure to get there before 1 PM - last time, we learned, we made it accidentally *just* in time for their breakfast menu, which not only means you can get a fried chicken sandwich with a fried egg, clearly making it better, but it's also several dollars *cheaper*. For 9 bucks with fries - compared to 14 for the dinner version - that's probably *cheaper* than the average fast food chicken stop, separate from the fast that it was about a thousand times tastier. Though, while the vibe of this place is very much fast food, the food *itself* isn't fast food - it took exactly as long as you'd expect, given they're making everything fresh to order, but not any longer than that. (I didn't have any complaints about the speed, but it isn't Burger King.) Anyway, we figured since they had two breakfast items (the sandwich and a breakfast burrito) and there were two of us, we'd split both of them, which I wouldn't recommend as much. The breakfast burrito was by no means bad, but it was a bit floppier and not quite as filling - great chicken obviously, being the same chicken, but we agreed, we'd had way better breakfast burritos. The breakfast chicken sandwich was absolutely bomb, though. (Though their "medium" spicy was only a *hint* spicy, in my opinion - I never go straight for the "hot", cause sometimes at hot chicken places it's *stupid* hot, that and I was sharing them with my pepper-averse spouse, but if I went back, I'd just get my own sandwich and make it a little spicier.) Is it the best hot chicken sandwich in California? Probably not... but it *is* probably the best hot chicken sandwich you can get while driving from SoCal to NorCal, so I'm glad it's there.) Also, as far as value... they give you a *lot* of fries. Possibly too many fries. The fries were good, but there was nothing particularly special about them, other than the quantity. We could absolutely have shared an amount of fries *each* of our orders came from, for the two of us. (We didn't finish all the fries.) Only minor complaint, their drinks are all super sugary, and a little pricey at $4 for fountain soda - but at least it's a more premium brand of soda... still probably more than your daily sugar per cup, but at least it *is* sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. It does feel like they're missing out by not having a license to sell beer, though. That sandwich would go *really* well with a craft beer.

The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was good. I ordered the chicken medium since their lowest level was naked. The medium had a pretty good kick to it. The two meals came with so much fries that we eventually threw most of them away. It would be nice if Nate's could sell their sandwiches without fries. Nate's was a good choice for us to stop at.

Tucked into the corner of a Starbucks location, this cute little spot is small but super inviting--and definitely lives up to the hype. As soon as we walked in, the place was clean and filled with the delicious smell of spices and fresh food. I ordered the chilaquiles (not listed on the menu, but they'll make it for you with your choice of meat or traditional eggs for the same price). I went with chili verde, and wow--I was not disappointed. It was loaded with meat, sauce, cheese, cilantro, onion, and sour cream. Absolutely worth the $13, and I'd 100% order it again--next time with al pastor! We also tried the chicken enchilada plate ($13), which was just as good. Great flavor, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese, and it came with rice and beans on the side. For drinks, they've got a wide selection, including alcoholic options. I grabbed a Jarritos--just a heads up, they're $3.50 each, a bit pricey, but ice cold and refreshing. Overall, this place was a hit for us. The waitress, Erma, was friendly, polite, and attentive--which, let's be honest, isn't always easy to find. The restaurant is clean, has plenty of seating, and judging by the steady flow of customers, it's definitely no secret anymore! Give it a try and see for yourself--I'm pretty sure you'll love it too.
