Despite other reviews on this place, the staff were actually all friendly and attentive. When I walked in I could tell that this place is no more than a bar with dine-in seating surrounding it. I didn't really find the Birria tacos on their menu however when I inquired about them the waiter stated that they have them. I didn't have to wait long for my food however from the moment my plate arrived it was sheer disappointment. My plate arrived with 3 "Birria" tacos but there was not much about these that said "Birria". They were prepared on flour tortillas that were completely soft with no sign of the classic melted cheese on the tortilla, no limes, and no dipping broth. Of course I asked for limes and broth. The "broth" that was brought to my table appeared to be watered down taco grease and tasted as such! The tacos had a fair amount of meat, onions, and cilantro in the tortilla but these were a far cry from an authentic Birria taco. When I received my check I would discover a charge of $16.08 for a plate of Americanized tacos. Meat was dry and quite tasteless. If you're looking for a place that does not serve authentic Mexican food with higher than a giraffe's nuts pricing then this is your spot!!! I will not be a repeat customer.

The Cheesesteak sandwiches were good--maybe a little heavier on the onions than I prefer, but still enjoyable. They're not on the level of Warrio's, but definitely a solid fast-food option. The mac and cheese and chocolate shake were both good as well. The disappointment was my curly fries. They were mostly small end pieces, hard, and clearly not fresh. My husband then noticed the manager discard the remaining fries after filling my order and prepare a fresh batch for the customer behind us, whom she then joined in the dining room. That was frustrating to see. Overall, the food was decent, but when a fast-food meal for two costs more than $30, I expect everyone to receive fresh food--not the leftovers from the fry station while the next customer gets a fresh batch. I hope Arby's can be more consistent in serving the same quality to every customer.

So far since my big move here last year, El Vaquero is my 2nd restaurant for Mexican food that I've visited. Well, my 3rd really if you count "The Local Cantina", but I really don't count that place just due to how absurd their menu is. I brought my wife to EV for lunch, and this place was very clean, which is a great plus in my book. The young lady that waited on us (Erendira), was very friendly, very quick to get us some chips and salsa, very quick to get us our drinks as well. Very good service, no question at all. The first thing I always think about when ordering Mexican food, is always my memories of back home in San Antonio. When the plates came out, I really had that sense of home. The enchilada's my wife ordered were spot on, the rice was so authentic, yet so simple. A lot of places try and spruce up spanish rice with corn and just simply call it "Tex-Mex". Not the case here, very good. The frijoles were also good, don't miss out. I ordered the flauta lunch plate, and it really hit the spot, not overly portioned, but just the right amount of food. The food looked amazing and the taste was below any authentic Mexican food I have had and I have had a lot from different areas of the country. This was by far the worst of the worst. Our server was okay but we asked for a manager as our gringo sampler was missing several items, my son's steak was overcooked and extremely fatty , the Birria tacos that I ordered were bland as if in not even a salt shaker was attempted, and there was absolutely no flavor to the consume. The onion rings on the gringo sampler tasted like they were fried in old grease. The only thing that was good on there was the queso. We asked for a manager and we advised that there was no manager there. Eventually a gentleman came over and I'm using that term lightly and asked us if we had a question so we explained our concerns and our issues. His response was making excuses and not one apology for anything. He was extremely rude, even when we said it was our first time here and our last.
