Toddler loves the pad Thai

DO NOT MISS THIS HIDDEN GEM! If you are driving through Payson on the Bee Line Highway, do yourself a favor and stop at Chinese Thai Cuisine. This place is worth going out of your way for. I came to payson to visit my 75 year old father who suggested to eat at this small establishment. I live in San Diego and eat out frequently in Los Angeles, and I can confidently say this was one of the best and most authentic Thai food experiences I've ever had. The quality, flavors, and execution were exceptional. The pad Thai was phenomenal not the typical overly sour or watered-down version you find at most places, but the authentic, slightly sweeter regional Thai style. The balance of flavors was perfect and incredibly addictive. My 4 year old son almost finished the full size adult plate. The spring rolls were amazing plump, crispy, and reminded me of perfectly fried lumpia filled with meat and glass noodles. They were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The batter on the orange chicken was easily some of the best I've ever had. The batter was unbelievably light and delicately airy, yet delivered the crispiest crunch with every bite. It wasn't greasy or heavy just perfectly fried. The tom kha soup had incredible depth and complexity. It was creamy and aromatic without being overly heavy on the coconut milk, allowing the authentic Thai flavors and lemongrass to really shine through. The kung pao was also outstanding. The vegetable selection was fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and the spice level built in a way that kept you wanting more. Paired with the Thai iced tea which was sweet and rich, created the perfect balance. The sweetness of the tea mellowed the spice just enough, but the flavors were so addicting you couldn't stop eating. What truly makes Chinese Thai Cuisine special is Mama -- the owner and chef herself -- personally cooking and overseeing the food. That level of care, pride, and authenticity is rare and speaks volumes. You can taste the difference when the owner is in the kitchen making sure every dish is perfect. This is hands down some of the best Thai food and Chinese Thai fusion food you will find in Arizona. Authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable. If you are in Payson, traveling through Northern Arizona, or driving the Bee Line Highway, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. Yes unfortunately we began to eat and some plates were finished. I didn't come in with intentions on writing a review but wanted to take the time to let everyone know why this place is a must! I will be thinking about this meal for a long time.

Never dissapoints! The sweet owner always comes out to bring your food to make sure you like it. Honey chicken is my go too. Always delicious!

Orange Chicken and General Tsos Chicken

The best of both worlds Chinese and Thai everything is made fresh and comes out hot. Authentic dishes and a friendly staff and they're open till 9 PM in the heart of Payson. Come check it out.

I want to say EVERYONE needs to come here to eat Nela is the owner she told us how she had to come here from Thailand after someone in her family passed she came and helped so when you say it's authentic it is seriously some of the best Thai food I have had in Arizona. We ordered family style got the beef fried rice, green curry, egg drop soup, Lo mein, King pao, drunken noodles, mango and sticky rice, and a Thai iced tea. She said she gets a little lonely and it doesn't get super busy because of the location it's a classic hole in the wall the vibes in there are too cute! Please visit nela and order literally anything you'll love it and she will literally make you feel like you're family! It should be packed with a waitlist. When we first stepped in she said welcome home and we had never been there

I have been so desperate to love this restaurant because I love Thai and this is a local location…read more Plus the people seem so very nice. But for some reason, I just haven't had a great food experience at this location and sadly will likely not go back. We have tried Z's on a few occasions. The last time was about a year ago (before most recent trip). We went with a group and two people in the group got sick afterwards. One was my husband. This followed another occasion of someone getting sick (in fact, someone else in the group said they didn't want to go there for this reason). So, after that incident, we said we weren't going back. Fast forward a year and I thought why not give it another try? The reviews seemed good recently and maybe this was a fluke. So last night, we returned for another try. They were very busy for a Monday night so they obviously don't need more customers. And the staff, though clearly overworked, is friendly and nice as usual. I ordered a larb salad (something I always get at every Thai restaurant). Unfortunately, the chicken in the salad was inedible. I kept trying to eat it because the dressing was on point, but the chicken tasted like something that someone heated up too long in the microwave. And I couldn't pick it out. So disappointing. You can see it looks bad in the images. I didn't say anything because I hate complaining at restaurants. I took it home and tried it again in case I was being sensitive but it was still bad and I threw it out. We also ordered green curry with tofu and pad Thai with pork. Both were enjoyable!! And the green curry had a nice heat kick though I added spice which they eventually brought when I asked. One note: I was not exactly sure how to eat the green curry because it was served in a small bowl place on a plate with the rice in the side. Adding the curry to the plate caused the sauce to run all around but there was not enough room in the bowl to add the rice. No big deal but just weird and messy plating experience. We didn't end up getting any alcoholic drinks. But do be aware that there must not be free refills because I was charged for two lemonades. All in all, I wish this restaurant well. Obviously people love it and keep returning. The owners/staff are very friendly and nice. I just love Thai too much to keep returning to mediocre experiences when there are other options in the area.

They are open…read moreall day- no odd hours like some of the Local Thai restaurants which is very inconvenient therefore we don't frequent them. Negatives: Portion size is a bit small to average, and sadly a few of the featured dishes we have tried seem to focus on adding prolific amounts of red and green bell pepper as "filler" for the vegetable in the protein and rice/noodle dishes. A variety of vegetables that compliment the specific dish would add interest and subtle texture and flavor. Broccoli? Lemongrass? Everything is expensive now due to the trump administration- and people simply can't afford to eat out as much or at all. When a dish is presented miserly, it becomes an easy to decision not to eat out. Also, the dishes are a bit overly salted. Thai food has such an abundance of spice to make it unique, over salting is a rookie move. The staff we have encountered seem mostly professional and friendly, however, lately staff seem disinterested, bored and we were surprised and disappointed to see two staff members, eating at the front register while people came in for take-out orders. Surely a health code violation to be eating while handling customer food orders and money at the cashier station. Big turn-off for us. We really wanted to see them succeed- but eating at the register is gross. Ughh.

I was in the mood for Thai food while in Winslow and decided to hit up Chang Thai on a Saturday…read morenight. I tried to call in an order a few times, but no one was answering, so I decided to go in person. When I arrived, I quickly realized they were understaffed and overwhelmed. However, they remained friendly. I ordered the following order to-go: Papaya salad + shrimp Mango sticky rice Thai tea They informed me that it would take 45 minutes and though I was hungry, I had nowhere to be so I decided to wait. The staff checked on me a few times and were very apologetic. The owners also came out and spoke with every customer. The papaya salad was fresh, tasty, and exactly what I wanted! The mango sticky rice was lightly sweetened and wonderful. The thai tea on the other hand, was plenty sweet and creamy. Great spot. Highly recommend!

Fried Rice - Thai Basil Chicken: Falls short, due to technique; feels like the rice just came out…read moreof a rice warmer rather than refrigerated overnight rice. So everything sort of clumps together. I felt the dish was missing that Drunken Tiger Thai Basil Fish Sauce + Sugar Soy Sauce flavor. Feel the fried rice can be simpler--- leave out the celery stalks, leave out the zucchini, and keep to garlic, basil, Thai bird eye chillis, onions and Pad Kee Mao Sauce. Missing that taste of flame where every rice is coated with the wok char. Pad Thai--- this was an outstanding Pad Thai. Considering we're literally in the middle of nowhere in Winslow AZ, the noodle dish wasn't Sugar Overload, it was light. Had a balanced amount of citrus acid lime, and tasted refreshing. Tom Kha---- this Tom Kha is how I'd imagine a white person would interpret it, lacks lime leaves, lacks sourness, and doesn't keep to its roots, shallots, lemongrass, Thai bird eye peppers, Mushrooms, cilantro and maybe tomatoes....but nothing more. This was almost like a Thai Coconut Vege Soup packaged in a plastic cup sold in some neighborhood in St Paul Minnesota at an Albertsons; I would modify it by cutting out the celery and carrots and maybe squeeze a bit more lime in there if the owners don't have a lime leaf tree. Egg Rolls-- I've made a ton of these back in my restaurant days, along with crab cheese wontons, so as a standalone appetizer this place has pretty decent egg rolls. Thai Ice Tea--- good, Balanced not sweet, light ; recommend. Overall this family restaurant was a good stop between Los Angeles and Route 66 Arizona. Every member of the family were incredibly friendly, couldn't ask for better service, they follow up with you and ask for suggestions to improve the dishes, and any other accommodations adjustments with the ingredients. So next time you know. Let them know. Wil definitely be coming back next time I drive through with my rig. Kudos for running a Thai restaurant so far away from society.
