I came here for dinner last night and honestly I was not mad about it. I think when you go to these types of places you have to set certain expectations of quality and service. I mean enough food for 4 people and it only cost $25. I ask you where else can you get that? Even a meal at Taco Bell is more than that. Don't come here... This used to be a go to...not any longer. Food is flavorless, feels and tastes old no matter the time you go. There are way too many options out there for them to be this bad now. I've been going to this place since I was a kid. They've had the same owners for at least 20 years. Lady with the huge bangs and visor was there, berating a new lady working there, in Chinese - like always. This place has never been great but it's convenient. Typical of Chinese fast food places, they fill up the two compartments with chow mein to avoid having to give you ACTUALLY what you pay for with a 1 or 2 item combo. I usually get honey walnut shrimp from this other place in Downey off of Imperial and Clark - and their food is AMAZING. Very generous and always tasty, but I thought I'd give Chinese Gourmet a shot with THEIR walnut shrimp. I asked for it and asked how long it would take, bangs lady said "5 minutes" it took way longer than that. I also asked how much it was, she said $11.99. that's over $13 with tax but I thought "ok, I'll give them a shot". I asked how much I was getting and bangs lady pointed to the large side order container. I thought "ok, at least it's a lot". I take it home and it's got WAY too much mayo and the candied walnuts they used were too sugary. I figured it's my fault, but at least I know not to order it. To my surprise, I got down to the bottom third of the takeout container and it was filled with fried chow mein noodles. I know times are tough right now but this is pathetic. read more

I just discovered this place, and I've been here 3 times today! In no way am I writing this review to talk bad about the place. I want them/wish they would reach out and explain to me the issue I had today. The food has been great! Portions are huge! The staff is very nice and give excellent service! Lots of sitting space with a great atmosphere, no issues with anything until today. I got the same thing as always and with that comes a small side of fried rice (as seen on vid) but today I bought the food so I can take it to work for lunch. Once lunch came I was excited to eat, so I unpacked and started eating, right away I noticed the texture of the rice was super sticky, almost like gum!! At first I thought it was because I didn't put it in fridge since I bought it at 2pm and lunch was at 8pm, but then I warmed it up and it got worse! Cheap and large amounts! The take out foam boxes are stuffed with your choice of entrees with fried rice/ noodles (typical Chinese take out style). So me personally I like the food there , my husband dislikes it because he seen one of the employees there years ago, that's still there i believe his the owner the one with glasses . Cheapest owners I've encountered, even for Asian restaurant standards. Went with a bunch of coworkers, it's your typical mom-and-pop Panda Express style place. The placed first of all smelled funky when we came in. Food itself was below average, you can just tell the ingredients are just terrible quality; I really wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't actual chicken they were serving. They WATERED DOWN their Sriracha hot sauce! And when I asked for hot sauce packets from behind the counter she gave me the dirtiest look ever...while handing me 2 of them. My coworker also got the stink eye for asking for NAPKINS. Of course the place is cash only and costs you 60 cents for a refill on a small drink. It's 3:15pm now and I've already hit the can once; I can feel another trip coming before 4pm hits. First off, the lady just started putting rice and chow mien in the food container as soon as I said that I would like the 2 side combo. Then, she wouldn't answer my question about having orange chicken as a side as well, so I gave up. Any other question after that was answered shortly as she tried to move us along. I had been coming here since 1992. The taste and the quality of this chinese food, is quite possibly, the best damn chinese food I ever tatsted. Seriously. It tastes freakin awesome! The prices, have always been, in my opinion, pretty high, compared to other similar chinese food places. But that was fine with me, because 1. It tastes freakin Awesome!!! And 2. he always hooked it up fat. Huge portions! Well one day, I go in there (the owner is serving me) and the dude is suddenly being real skimpy with the portions. Not hookin it up super fat like he always does. Like, hes giving me WAY LESS meat than usual. WAY LESS!!! So I tell him in a nice polite friendly manner "hey dude whats up with that? My favorites have always been the red barbecue pork and beef broccoli. But I think the tangerine chicken really stands out here: sweet, tangy, and really tender, not too sour or tough.
