It was my first time ordering here. I wanted to try it even though it had a 3 star rating compared to another nearby Chinese restaurant. When I first pulled up I wasn't impressed with how the place looked. The person who took my order didn't speak very good English but seemed to understand me. Unfortunately I got the wrong item on one of the entrees. However, the food was quite good regardless. I will definitely give them another try. I haven't had luck in finding good Chinese food in Lake county but I believe my quest is over. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

Looking for delicious Chinese takeout, well you've found the right spot in town! China Town has been my favorite place to eat for years, and hopefully, many years to come! I absolutely love love love this place and would recommend it to all my friends, and strangers alike!

Beef Lo Mein

Normally China town has fantastic food but seems to have gone a bit downhill lately. Just had beef lo mein and there was barely a vegetable in sight. Fried rice and crab ragoons were good but beef lo mein was Disappointing

I've driven by Chinatown several times in the past but only just went in here tonight. There was a constant hum from the kitchen as 6+ people prepared take-out orders for the customers coming in and out. The large take-your-own-condiments area was also quite impressive. I ordered Crab Rangoons, Pork Eggrolls, Beef Chow Mein (for the aunt), and General Tso's Chicken. The Crab Rangoons and Eggrolls were good. I was thinking the Chicken was alright- nothing to write home about - UNTIL I ended up with a piece of what seemed like Saran Wrap plastic in my mouth. Uhh...grosss. I did call the restaurant, who apologized and asked if I wanted them to make me a new one (No, thanks..I've pretty much lost my appetite). Shortly after getting off the phone, I tried to force down the rest of the food on my plate...and then bit into something hard: seemingly a piece of bone. Really? My appetite is now TOTALLY gone, and the leftovers are going into the trash. For a $9.50 take-out entree, I'd expect fewer foreign objects in my food.

I just order2 lunch n 2 drink both delicious total only 15 +++ great food . I very like Hong Kong chicken

I recently moved back to McHenry County after 15 years China Town was always my "go to" for Chinese carry-out back then. I decided to give it a try again. I am disappointed. I had wonton soup & chicken & vegetables with fried rice. The rice is orange, hardly any flavor to the chicken dish. They did not put soy sauce in the to go bag. I won't go out of my way to order from here again

A True Hidden Gem in McHenry!…read more Plum Garden is one of those rare restaurants that has stood the test of time, and for good reason! Tucked away on a side street in McHenry, this hidden gem has been serving incredible Chinese food since the 1960s. First and foremost, the egg rolls are hands down the BEST you'll find anywhere! Seriously, they're worth the trip alone. If you've never had them, you're missing out! Another absolute must-try is the Hong Kong Chicken. It's a standout dish and one I highly recommend. There's something special about a family-style Chinese restaurant that's been around for decades, especially one that continues to deliver food worth coming back for. Plum Garden is a McHenry institution that deserves more recognition. If you love great Chinese food, do yourself a favor and seek out this hidden gem. You won't regret it!

My companion had the egg drop soup and she sent it back. Very watery and lacking flavor. We had the crab Rangoons, which were pretty good. Next up was the beef chop suey. A generous portion, but there wasn't a lot of beef in it. Flavor was ok. The celery could have been cooked longer. It was tough. I had the sesame chicken, which was pretty good. A decent amount of chicken and good flavor. Service was just okay. We had soft drinks and I think $3.99 is high for a soft drink.

We came here on Christmas Day and for the price, this buffet is excellent!…read more Generally speaking, the food was fresh and even an hour before close, they were still adding hot items. The standouts were the hot & sour soup, the peanut butter chicken, and the shrimp. The ice cream was a little weird, but the almond cookies were great. The staff was quiet, but attentive. I would come again. I think it was like $13/person?

First time here. We came over from Rockford, IL. to check this place out. Had a quite a few good…read morereviews. For this buffet, you pay for your meal, as soon as you walk in the door. You can see the buffet from the register and can even check it out, before paying. The cost was about $14 (per person) and drinks were included. Having been to other all-you-can eat Chinese buffets, the food was acceptable, but not the best. The major plus here is that the "hot food" is actually hot. Not lukewarm, like other places. They are always refilling food and cleaning up around the buffet bars. But, some items do look like they have been sitting there for awhile. The best items for me, were the Crab Rangoon, BBQ Spare Rib, and the Baked Salmon. I just wish they had some small dipping cups for the sauces (like the red sweet and sour, hoisin, and soy sauces). Your only two options are to dump it on your plate, or use a soup cup. There are a ton of food options, even had mac n cheese, pizza, meatballs, and tacos, as well. There is small sushi area, dessert bar (with ice cream), appetizers (egg rolls, dumplings, etc.), salad\side dish area, and a bunch of main dishes. The staff are not too friendly to talk to. They seem more intent on getting people in and out. But, they do keep the tables, chairs, and buffet line extremely clean. They clear away used dishes fast and keep your drinks full. There was a steady stream people coming in, while we were eating. Must be a popular place for the area. Located in a strip mall. There are both booths and tables\chairs to sit. You can also sit by the front window to look outside, while you eat.
