I rarely come here for lunch or dinner because it's so far away from where I live in town, but it's a guilty pleasure spot for me. While it's far from the best Chinese food buffet in town, it's not horrendous like some of the reviews on here make it out to be. Yes, they do cut some corners here with the food they serve here but honestly, it's cheap here and for the price, it's fine. I actually like their soups here as their egg flower soup is decent and so is their hot and sour soup. I am not a huge fan of their fried rice nor chow mein, but items like their beef broccoli and teriyaki chicken are actually pretty decent. I have also tried their seafood and they have a good amount of seafood for dinner, but I personally am not huge on seafood, but I tried a white fish entree (not sure if it was tilapia or sole) and it was surprisingly good! Some things are not good however, like their sushi. I just can't trust this place with sushi because of their inconsistency with some of the food. I don't want to get sick! I'd rather go to a reputable sushi place in town! The service here is okay and not the worst nor the best I've experienced. The server that I had on my last visit was a little neglectful in the fact that he didn't pick up our plates and they seemed to pile up. He seemed like a nice guy, but it felt like he was under constant pressure by the manager. He did bring us more hot tea, but that was about it. However, I have been here before where the server was good and constantly took our dirty plates. I guess it varies. China Star buffet is not a 5-star buffet and don't expect that coming here. For the price, you can't go wrong as they even have a happy hour special Monday- Friday from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM where the buffet is $6.95. That's not bad at all! Some of the food is surprisingly good, but some of it is just not good. The food here is decent and at this price point, you could do much worse. We've been going here for probably 13 years. The lady at the front is rude. She always has to comment something inappropriate or irrelevant. Also, every time we eat there our stomachs all hurt and the food is barely warm. The only reason we go back is because we cannot find another (buffet) place in town that serves crab legs and baked oysters. Just walking in there (to me) it seems dirty. They crab legs are thrown in the fryer for and come out dripping with grease and complain that if your there during lunch you have to pay extra for dinner if your still there and still wanna eat. The attitude of the woman at the register could be improved. She was very rude and I didn't appreciate her rudeness. She didn't even offer an apology thinking perhaps I misunderstood her response. Incident; buffet is 10.99 for lunch and I was paying for myself and my daughter. My daughter ordered water and I ordered hot tea . The total came to 26.30, my daughter said wow 26.30, daughter asked why and how is that possible? The person stated that the extra was for the hot tea, I then said oh no take the tea off as I pulled my card out to pay, she yelled something in her language and removed the hot tea, brought the total down to 23.30, I was like wow 3.00 for tea, it use to be free, not meaning specifically at her establishment, but I believe she took it that way and made a snappy rude remark " not free, you can go somewhere else if you want free" imagine my shock, my comeback was straight forward as well. This was definitely much better than Jade Buffet. The food quality was what I would expect from a regular Chinese restaurant. The price for lunch was so cheap. I would go here again and again. The woman upfront is extremely rude. I place my order at the time I want it picked up, and as soon as I get there she tells me it has been here ready for 30 minutes or an hour . I show her my phone confirming what time is my pick up and she refuses to see their mistake .so my food has been sitting there 30 mins to an hour because their system is messed up. there's 2 Chinese buffet restaurant that we go to,the Sakura on Ming and this one on Planz.The one on Ming a 3 dollar more but the drinks are included.What i like here is less people and less options so customers dont tend to keep getting up to get food.We just get the food that we like with additional plates and sit down for the next 20 minutes.We have going to this place for at least 20 years(2005) and always satisfied. read more

Right off the bat we were seated and helped by a very kind host. Dinner prices were only 15$ which is a steal nowadays for a buffet. Obviously it's not gonna be top quality sea food but it was still very good and I was able to scarf down 5 plates plus dessert. First off, this place is always clean. Yes, you'll find your typical Chinese food buffet food items but what is a little different is they have a little sub station where they make some basic sushi items. They also serve items that kids will enjoy. They have a decent variety of protein items and veggies items. I'm not a fan of their chow mein and steamed rice, they always seems to be mushy. The pork, the chicken, the rice, even the obligatory "American food for picky kids" (I.e. Pizza, chicken nuggets, French fries) foods are always so dry. How do you make pizza dry? Obviously it is not Vegas's Bellagio seafood buffet. But for $8.99 lunch, you have mussels, crawfish, shrimp, salmon, and tilapia etc. Place is clean and staff are attentive. My family and I have been coming here for over a year. Every time we came, dad felt the need to be nicer and leave a tip . No other table had a tip on the table (I noticed).
