This last order from China Star was absolutely terrible. Every single item I ordered was either tasteless, oily (broccoli and shrimp toast) over cooked (wontons) or under cooked and I was baffled as the majority of my prior orders were really good and China Star was one of my go-to Chinese takeouts restaurants ... SIGH - I guess it's time to find a replacement read more

Don't ever come late to order food in person, they prioritize DoorDash, Grub-hub, UberEats over customers in person. Took over 40 minutes for my food to be ready. The ambiance was very depressing to where it got packed with people who made orders over a call to pick up just for them not be ready. read more

If you're looking for real chicken, let me save you the trouble: this is *not* the place. I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce, and what showed up in my container looked like a science experiment gone wrong. Calling it "chicken" would be an insult to actual poultry everywhere -- it didn't even look like chicken, let alone taste like it. It was some mystery meat-mash, kind of like they put Play-Doh through a grinder and drenched it in sauce. Out of curiosity (and concern for my digestive system), I called the restaurant to ask what exactly they served me. Three different people answered, and *not one of them* could tell me what the "chicken" was made of. Imagine that -- a Chinese restaurant that can't identify the main ingredient in their own chicken dish. That's when I knew: whatever this "China Star" is serving, it's definitely not what they're advertising. If you enjoy eating mystery meat disguised in sauce, this might be your paradise. For anyone else with functioning taste buds (or a basic fear of food poisoning), I'd say run. Never again ordering from here. Still don't know what kind of Frankenstein "minced chicken" they're slipping into people's food, but I do know one thing: it isn't chicken. read more

First time having it, this is your basic Chinese food 101... it filled up my hungry tummy and my tummy was happy. I'm a huge fan of American Chinese food, and out of many places I've tried - China Star takes the cake. One of the most flavorful portions of Orange Chicken I've tried. Chicken was crispy, sauce was sweet and had the right amount of orange flavor. One of the best! read more

The food from China Star is so flavorful and fresh! We've ordered plenty of times. Their BBQ spare rib tips are really good as are the egg rolls and shrimp toast (we usually get these every time we order). I will say the service isn't the best - but who goes to a Chinese takeout restaurant for good service? I would definitely recommend China star to anyone looking for good Chinese takeout in the area read more

Super recommend the sesame chicken and the fried chicken. Just amazing. Food came quick and piping hot.

We were visiting my elderly parents and wanted to treat them to take out dinner. When the food was delivered the driver immediately apologized and told us the cover was loose on the egg foo young sauce and it had spilled all over the food in the bag. We literally had an I inch of sauce left in the container and we noticed it had been packed on the bottom of the bag and the cover was only partially closed. I called the restaurant twice to complain. The first time I was passed around 3 times to different, "managers". When I finally got to speak to someone, they said, oh we'll just remake the food that was ruined and Re deliver. When I gave him the address, he said, " that's too far"; odd since the first time it wasn't. So I asked for a refund on the ruined items. He promised to do that. I waited until 8:00 pm; no refund. I called again and was told it would show up in my account. We'll it's been three days later and nothing. Won't be Ordering from here again, $80 bucks wasted. read more

the food here is great! been served for 10 years and have loved every moment. Keep going!

BEWARE!! Food was the poorest quality I've ever had. The fried rice had no taste, was soggy and grossly greasy. The French fries were soggy af too. The egg rolls were poorly constructed and literally had no meat in them. I've ordered from this place less and less over the past few years because the quality/taste of the food is never consistent. Order from here only if you have no or low standards. I will say they offered to bring new rice but, I declined. They also offered a free 2liter on my next order, ‍. I felt like if they have any interest in providing a quality product I would've never receive the crap the sent out. *Update they refunded $20 of the $35 I spent. Never again! read more

While The food is pretty good here, The face to face customer service is absolutely terrible. Went there a few days ago, to order take out, as I had to go next door to Walgreens to pick up a few things. I was standing there right by the counter for about 20 mins waiting to be asked how can I help you, 3 people answering phones and not one counter person acknowledge I was standing there, they looked at me half a dozen times but not one time did the ask if they could take my order. I understand they were busy, but they have very major customer service issues. So I finally decided to leave and go to walgreens, as I was walking over to walgreens I call them on the phone and they answered the phone and tooky order, and then tells me it will be about a half hour so I had to walk around walgreens for at least 10 mins and then sat in my car for the remainder of the time. I finally walk back in to get my food order, and there is no sence of organization in the place either, the lady in front of me picking up her own order gives her number and the counter person tells her ok its ready but wasn't that poor lady had to wait another 5 mins cause her food wasnt done cooking and bagged. I got to give my number to pick up order and as I am walking up to thw counter and one of those food delivery app drivers walks right through the door and cuts in front one and instead of the counter girl in this restaurant say you have to wait cause I was next she help him. All around the Chinese food is pretty good for the area, but the customer service skills are lacking big time. If you are that busy with taking phone orders and can not take counter orders then they should say so. It was 530pm when I got there and it was 730pm by the time I got home with my food. read more

This was a little over a year ago. My friend go to posting a review long before I have, however I have to admit I'm lucky to be alive and that is no exaggeration. Food borne illness can be deadly, and with the amount of reviews I've found claiming similar stories it scares me that they have not been shut down by the Health administration. This place needs to be heavily evaluated and I will be making a call because this is beyond unacceptable for a business to happen on NUMEROUS occasions. I hope everyone stays well, and stays away from this food. read more

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Belleville. I like how they hire people who are fluent in English to take orders. One of my main issues when ordering Chinese food is the language barrier that doesn't seem to be the case in this store. I always order mine for pick up and they are usually prompt. So far I have tried their chicken wings, kung pao chicken, chop seuy, happy family and egg drop soup which were all great. read more

It's weird to even say you're a fan of ANY local Chinese restaurant, considering the bad rap they get usually. This place is actually still skeevy looking, they speak just enough English and the delivery guy has extremely long pinky nails. The good thing is that their chicken and broccoli has some deliciously addictive sauce on it and their broccoli stays nice and crisp, unlike in most places where it's clearly frozen brocoli. They have good boneless spare ribs, I recommend the boneless ones over the ones with bone in them. You get a HUGE serving. Their shrimp friend rice and pork fried rice tastes nice and fresh each time as well. They take credit cards over the phone, which is a HUGE plus for someone like me that never has cash and their delivery doesn't take forever. I'm deducting a star because they have messed up my order a handful of times, their lo mein is overly greasey and I was very disappointed with their cheese wontons. Also if you order over $10 you can get a free soda, soup or egg roll, make sure you say what you want, or else they always take the cheap route, don't ask and just throw in a random soda. read more

There service SUCKS!!! First you call in and they never understand you. They never ask if you're done with ordering they just hang up and when you call back they yell at you for calling back. Then if you call back again to cancel your order they try to force you to take the food because you call to cancel. Then check this out the driver shows up with the food you canceled 45 minutes ago and tells you that your order is here. I tell the drive that I canceled and now he wants to argue. SMH!!! Who do they think they are? They also mess up the order too. Don't you know the difference between brown rice and pork fried rice? Not good. Sorry not the first with this issue of service and food order mess up but will be the last. They SUCK!!! read more

I'm aggravated...I ordered from this place last week and when you order more than $20 you get a free can of soda or two depending on the amount spent. Last week I called them and informed them that they didn't send the sodas; they told us please call on your next order and we will send it to you. Today I spent $35 and I asked for my free soda of last week and my free dumplings because there's a coupon now (they have coupons now in there new menu) and they deny my free soda...Ridiculous, unprofessional, and do not live up to their word :-( read more

I wished there was 0 stars. We picked up a quart of wonton soup and 2 egg rolls and when we got home the soup was all over the car. The lazy guys there didn't even come close to closing the soup container. Egg rolls were soaked through and inedible. I can forgive that and chalk it up to an honest mistake but when we called the guy argued and tried to blame us. He said we ordered an hour ago when we just picked it up 5 min ago. Insinuating that we ate the food. He then refused to compensate us in any way. He said they were to busy to bring us new food. I own a food prep business and if I treated my customers this way, I'd have none left. So avoid these arrogant people that try and blame you for their mistakes. read more

If I could give this place a zero, I would. This may be the most disgusting experience I've ever had at any restaurants. I should add, I'm a frequent patron and I tip every time (as I should)... today I received my order (I wish I could add the pictures) there was a ice hot patch stuck to the inside of my bag of chicken wings...I only grew suspicious because the chicken wing I bit into tasted like menthol. As you can guess I'm completely disgusted and I will never order from this place again. I called the owner who doesn't speak English well to alert him to what happened. He offered to send new children to which I declined. If I were you I'd take this example very seriously. It speaks to the quality and care they treat their customers with. read more

Update: 11/2/18, I don't know why I even bother to give this restaurant another chance. Yet again something was left out from my order. I had to call back and have them credit the money to my card because I am not going back out again to pick up the items that they forgot! This place is total joke. If you like items missing from your order, by all means, order from here. As for me, IM DONE!! I'm only giving China Star two stars for one reason. THEY ALWAYS FORGET SOMETHING IN YOUR ORDER!!! Three out of four orders, paid items were forgotten. First time an egg roll, second time rice, third time soda. I realized the 2 liter was missing when my order was delivered. I told the driver while he was still here. He said he'd bring it. My order was delivered at 7pm. I just now received the soda, 8:49pm. Thanks for nothing. Won't be ordering from them again. read more

The food is good but if you get the female owner she never gets an order right. Always sending stuff back or eating stuff an hour after the rest of the order.
