This is my third time ordering from this China Star in Apollo Beach. Best chinese food I've had in over 20+ years. I've tried the shrimp egg foo young, shrimp fried rice, steamed shrimp with broccoli, shrimp egg rolls and the general tso's chicken. I absolutely loved each one of them. They give you a lot of food and the egg rolls are a good size and they are a lot cheaper than their competitors. And for those who are like my mother and only eat deveined shrimp then this is definitely your place. This is and will be my go to place for chinese food. read more

This restaurant changed to New China Star. It is absolutely AWFUL. It was very good before, but now it's really, really awful Ordered General Tso's Chicken, Fried Dumplings,Won Ton Soup, egg roll, spring rolls and House Special Lo Mein. The spring rolls, egg rolls were okay. But I don't know what the Chicken was but IT was Not General Tso's! The dumplings?? Gross. I'm not sure about the soup. I am afraid to try it. Wow! So I'm giving this place 5 stars To hopefully offset some of the useless and unfair 1 and 2 star reviews. I've been ordering food from this place for about 7 years and it is what it is, take out Chinese. You oughta be ashamed giving a small Mom and pop place like this anything less than 4 stars for the nonsense some People on here are claiming. Cut them some Slack. This people work 7 days a week and we are in the middle of an pandemic where most small Businesses are struggling. I would like to give them 3 stars but a few things aren't really up on the customer service side of things. Firstly I have had delivery and to go orders, as well as take out. The pick up time has been wrong by 15-20 minutes each time I come to pick up food. I have also been unfortunate to have a egg roll or rice missing and have to return to pick it up myself. A bit more inconvenient when on the clock. So I would suggest using this as a rule of thumb to plan ahead if your getting lunch for the office and are on a lunch hour or errand run. As for delivery I don't care much here late or not it shows up correct. Second thing when I call my orders in the young man doesn't seems to happy to be taking orders and mumbles through repeating your order with the way he likes to call things even if the item is printed on the menu and you order it that way. So spend some extra time to learn the alternate names of dishes they don't always match the menu when calling a order in. . Kinda hard for me not knowing Chinese and all either. When I started my review they had three stars and I was thinking I might give them four then when I walked out of there 45 minutes later tonight without even an apology just a stare down for being so late. When I placed my order I was told 15-20 minutes wasn't told how much but figured I'd add the 10 to 15 minutes onto that and then get there . As the duke of this chinese food place, I hereby deem it the best chinese food place in Apollo Beach! Quicker than most (still "ready 15 minute"), the fried rice is loaded with pork, the eggrolls are of excellent size and quality, and ordering extra hot General Tso comes really, tearjerkingly hot - which is exactly what I wanted. read more

This is the best Chinese Restaurant in the South Shore area. I've been a customer since they opened. It is always consistent. They have the best general tso's chicken! This is a wonderful family owned place and the owner is so sweet. I have watched their kids grow up into wonderful young adults. They are super clean and the food is always fresh. I live in the neighborhood so I order from this restaurant. You'll never get a Welcome coming through the door or a smile from anyone there, more attitude than anything. Often most times the food is fresh other times not so fresh. All of a sudden out of nowhere they stopped taking my calls, they answered realized it was me and just hang up on me without any explanation as to why they are just hanging up on me and not willing to take me order. I called at 9:45 and they made a point of making sure that I still got my food and we're all waiting for me when I got there. This was after another Chinese restaurant refuse to take my order because they were closing in 15 minutes and didn't think I would be there in time. Definitely some good take out... however horrible and rude customer service. Order was wrong... they argued claiming "their food comes in white containers" Umm yes I'm aware of the primary color white... and I'm familiar with Chinese food containers... however your contents in these "white containers" wasn't correct. It would've been mildly understandable but once the lady began to be rude... I hung up and won't ever go back. read more

Uhhh I can't say I'm getting much luck around here. The location seems nice and clean. The service is okay but very pushy. The Hawaiian five o is what I ordered and what I got. The beef was not very good because it tasted very flash frozen. The sauce was good tho and the rice... Simple chinese eatery with 3 tables. Setup mostly for take out business. Ordered lunch special- bbq pork with garlic sauce- excellent flavor and vegetables were crisp and fresh. Cheap too- oly $5.50 for a very large portion. read more

Ordered a regular meal double cook pork fried rice for delivery which did show up in a timely manner however the pork tasted as if it was tainted or bad. When I called in they requested that I bring the food back to the restaurant and they would give me a refund. So I had to get dressed, package the food up go back up to get a refund for which "mom mom" was very rude standing in the cook line raising her voice and not wanting to issue a refund even though I've had this meal at least 50 times and I know for a fact there was something wrong with it. I've lived in Ruskin since 2010 and have tried every take out Chinese place around and they have all been average to below average until NOW... A few months back someone at Publix told me about China Star while we were in the check-out line. I've been back 4 times and haven't been disappointed... All the dishes that I have tried all have their unique flavor (the other places in the area all their dishes tend to taste the same), the egg rolls are excellent, so is the hot and sour soup and the many dishes we have tried have all been of high quality... The young lady and her brother (when he isn't cooking) that work the counter have been very polite and pleasant to deal with... I have eaten at many Chinese take-outs in the Apollo beach/ruskin area and this one is, by far the best. It's a small family owned restaurant with consistently good food. The flavors are unique to each dish, not tasting all the same. The customer two younger workers are always friendly. The prices are cheaper here than many other Chinese take-outs. Ordered Kung Pao chicken. It was tasty, but the chicken was "rubbery" and seemed to be fatty. My wife had Sweet and Sour Chicken and said it was good. We also shared fried dumplings which were not very tasty. read more

Giving this a 2 star rating considering we diid enjoy the taste and quality of the food. I would of rated higher if it weren't for the poor service experience I had with my last order. I placed the same order as I do every time I call. The person who took the order over the phone did not take it accurately so I was sent something else - requested boneless bbq rib and received regular ribs. When I called to let them know they said the order was written down as regular ribs. It wasn't until I advised them I call often and order the same thing, the same way and it's not my fault the person who took the order had it wrong. Their way of fixing the error was advising they would send a driver out to pick up the ribs so they can go back and use it to prepare the boneless ribs. Clearly not the way to run a business and build a loyal clientele. There are hundreds of other Chinese restaurants so not a thing to use another. Word of mouth advertising can be very advantageous or the opposite as in this case. read more

Man, what can i say! This is THE MOST worse chinese food that i have ever had. I will never return to this chinese location. Where can i start, i ordered $50 dollars worth of food. And the young man had told me it would be 20 mins. ( okay not bad ). So me and 2 other friends went walking around the plaza which took about 25 minutes. Which was longer than what he told me. As soon as we walked in to check on our food, they didn't even acknowledged that we were there. So my other friends walked out to the car while i was still waiting inside, the lady then told me it will be a FEW MINUTES. 45 minutes went by, watching other customers coming in and grabbing their food and walk out. My friend had stopped 4 of the customers that got their food before we did and they called 30 minutes after we had ordered. So one of my friends came into the china star and asked how long it would be till our food was ready. She said its almost ready we are bagging it up now. (Thank god)... So as soon as the food was ready, the lady didn't say anything whatsoever, she gave us an ugly look. We get home and lay it out for the family. The food was absolutely horrible. I wouldn't even feed it to my dogs. I would never recommend this place to ANYONE! I would stay away from this place for good.
