There are a couple of different take out Chinese restaurants in the Ruskin/Apollo Beach area, but we are loyal to China Wok because they have always been consistent in taste, and it is such a quick and convenient location. The staff are always friendly, and our order is always ready when scheduled. They do have seating inside, but we have always ordered our food to bring home. I always get the egg drop soup and the combination platter of the chicken with vegetables that comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. It's a generous portion, and I always have leftovers. My husband always gets the general tso chicken combination platter that also comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. He too always has some leftovers. They have a good size menu with a lot of options, and the prices are reasonable. read more

4.4 Great value, Good food! We had to drive up to Ruskin to pick something up at Harbor Freight that coincided with lunchtime. China Wok is in the same shopping center so we decided to stop in. They are still operating take-out only. The menu is quite large and the lunch menu is excellent with plenty of options. Lunch menu is $6.95 for your choice of entree, fried rice and a soda. I waited outside and saw a few people come in and get orders they must have called in and one that ordered at the counter. That gave me hope the food was tasty. We ordered 2 egg rolls, an order of krab rangoons (8 per order) one entree of chicken Lo mein and another order of egg foo young. They make the food fresh and pack it out of the pans. We drove home 10 miles (missed our turn and drove another 8 back. Unloaded the item from Harbor Freight from the truck then unpacked and served the food. The entrées were still hot, the egg rolls and krab Rangoons still hot and crispy and, surprisingly, not greasy! That's unusual after letting them set. Food was really packed in the to-go boxes. We had 2 dinners, 2 lunches and a happy hour of krab Rangoons from this order. The entrées were tasty, fried rice had decent flavor. The stars were the egg rolls. If you read any of my previous reviews about egg rolls, I'm always complaining they are squishy inside and outside not crunchy. But, these were delicious!! Crispy and the inside was flavorful and didn't mash up when you bit it!! For such a small place, they put out food with big flavor! Service and food were both really good. There is a plexiglass separating the register & kitchen from the customers in the restaurant for safety. There is a small door where credit cards or money are exchanged. Neither, the cook or man running the register were wearing masks. We would go back if we were in the area. The egg rolls would be worth the drive alone! read more

I went in to grab some lunch. This is usually my go-to Chinese food spot for regular strip mall Chinese. I've never had a bad experience until yesterday... First, they tried to charge me more than what was listed on the menu, and then tried to say it was a printing mistake. Sorry, that's YOUR mistake and I won't be paying for it. Then, I think because I made a stink about it, they took extremely long with making my food on purpose. It took over 30 minutes to get a simple lunch special, and I CALLED IT IN. But their little trick backfired on them! Thank goodness they did take a long time, because that gave me the opportunity to watch all the cooks sit down and eat their food in the back, all while still cooking and making orders WITHOUT washing their hands! They were shoveling food in their mouths all while returning to the stove, plating area and packaging. Yup!! Good old fashioned contamination! How much you wanna bet that no one in there is trained in food safety? And when I brought this to the attention of the owner, she tried to gaslight me and say that's not what they were doing or what I saw--all while they were sitting there eating! Long story short, I wouldn't eat there anymore if I were you. This is what I witnessed with my own eyes and they felt free to do it in front of me. Imagine what happens when no one is looking... I promptly asked for a refund when she FINALLY handed me the food. Next stop--a call to Department of Health. read more

Kind of your run of the mill Chinese place. The krab Rangoon however were excellent. Always my favorite appetizer to try and you never know what you're going to get, but these are great. The spring roll was cooked perfectly as well. I opted for the veggie lo mein and it was rather dry. The flavors were fine, but lo mein typically has a sauce consistency on it, but it was very dry. The portions are HUGE, and they FILL those little boxes. So be prepared for left overs. If you're looking for Chinese that's not gonna hurt your wallet, check them out. read more

Ive been trying to find a good Chinese restaurant around here and this was the best one. The sauces here are great, especially the brown sauce, and sweet and sour sauce, it goes great with the egg rolls. I would really recommend the fried rice here, last week I ordered a large portion of the pork fried rice and me and my friend enjoyed it very much, we even had some leftovers. The location is a typical Florida strip mall, so nothing exciting. The interior of the restaurant isn't anything special, it has a few tables so you can eat there if you want. There is a very extensive menu, typical of a Chinese restaurant. The staff was very pleasant and efficient. We probably waited 10 minutes for our lunch, which came out piping hot, which I love. I had the chicken lo mein and it came with pork fried rice. The portion was huge for a lunch portion and could have easily fed 2 people. My only complaint is the amount of chicken. There were maybe 3 small bite size pieces mixed in an enormous pile of lo mein noodles. I will give it another try and order something different as many of the dishes I saw looked great. read more

Atmosphere- OK. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and not just a strip mall. The cheesiest strip mall around. The inside matches the environment, with the exception that everything seemed relatively clean. Food ordered in or to go is served in styrofoam and plastic containers with plastic spoons and forks. Although we ordered in, I generally would recommend that you order takeout instead. Service - Orders are taken at the counter and the staff is very nice. However there really is not much in the way of service. Food - I love Chinese food and have tried nearly a dozen restaurants from Sarasota to Brandon. I typically order the same thing, which makes it a little easier to draw comparisons. I ordered the lunch combo of General Tso's with pork fried rice. It came with a can of soda for $6.75 or so. I also ordered a small (pint) of hot and sour soup. Everything was deliver with 15 minutes and was very hot. The portion would be considered huge even for a dinner entree. I was visiting the area and hoped to find just a decent AmericanIzed Chinese restaurant for a decent meal. Didn't get it here. The hot and sour soup was inedible. I tossed it. It was basically their egg drop soup with dark soy, hot sauce and vinegar. No bamboo shoots, tofu, wood ear mushrooms or pork. Just terrible. I ordered the beef with broccoli thinking it would be safe. Nope, ate half of it and tossed that too. Didn't eat any of the fried rice. Looked like leftover fried rice that was microwaved. Used to be ok but quality has gone down as prices go up. Wife had Roast Pork Lo Mein the other night, very...very little pork. Lots and lots of noodles. An excellent choice for a quick lunch or dinner. The prices are great and the food is fresh. The staff was very friendly and honest about their food selections. The staff also made some great suggestions and even provided some alternative options that were not on the menu. The restaurant is clean and well-kept. My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is because they do not offer delivery. However, you can call ahead and your meal will be ready upon arrival. There is an option for dining in, however takeout it's the option most people choose. The menu provides several options of entrees for you to enjoy. This Chinese restaurant is similar to the others especially their menu items and prices. The food here is good as expected and you can get a combo platter for about $9.50 which includes a large portion of the main meal, fried rice, and an egg roll. I like to swap out the rice for noodles occasionally which are also good. I think it's a $1 up charge for the swap. Everything is made fresh and ready within about 15 minutes.
