Got food to go. ... No soy sauce. No duck sauce. No chopsticks. No egg roll (and I ordered a combo). I was ripped off... And had to use their ATM to buy my food because they wouldn't take debit or credit. I literally had to drive to the Tops to buy duck sauce afterwards because I bought three bags of crispy noodles with no dipping sauce... They are lucky that they are the only Chinese/Asian place in Lewiston because this place is absolutely awful. read more

Oh, my God! The pepper steak is the best I've ever had!!! Extremely tasty. My wife ordered chicken lo mein. We've had Chinese food in San Francisco, L.A., Vegas, and Tennessee. I could eat this pepper steak every day--even my picky 10yo son liked it. It was also a good deal for $7.50 and a good amount. Service was fast and friendly. I like to go here sometimes and it's the only closest Chinese restaurant near me. I like how the area is small but always there is never people standing I also like the traditional Chinese paintings and lanterns. The food is always good but not my top five restaurants. The people working there are very nice and sometimes surprised when I say xièxiè (Mandarin Chinese for thank you) or zài jiàn (Mandrian Chinese for goodbye). I do recommend this if you're in Niagara Falls or Lewiston New York. read more

I having been eating here for YEARS and can't understand some of these reviews! First, there IS and has always been condiments along with chopsticks, utensils, napkins, etc right in the main area to take as you wish. Also, I am shocked when people cut down a family-run business over the little things! This restaurant is hugely popular yet it is extremely rare that it takes longer than 10 minutes to be ready - I call, get ready to go and drive the 6 blocks and park. When I go in my order has always been ready. Good service to boot! Very polite to myself and my son when he goes there to get it. We do, at rare times, receive a meal that's not as good as usual and chalk it up to a substitute cook. We most often get Beef with Broccoli &/or Chicken with Broccoli &/or General Tso's &/or Teriyaki Chicken. All are good and they have toned down the heat on the Tso's to adjust to our American eating habits (nice to know they noticed - I used to just order it "mild"). GREAT egg rolls and soups too! My personal favorite is the Beef with Scallions - YUMMM!! They do not skim on the ingredients or the portion sizes. The prices are cheap to fair compared to anywhere else I've eaten. I appreciate that they are set up so transparently that you can see into the cook area. I've watched their children go from kindergarten through graduation and they are still a staple in our community working VERY LONG hours (11-12 hrs/day) and are open 7 days a week. Give this family a break and show your appreciation for them being so available for US and our needs/wants! Great Chinese restaurant around Lewiston. Good place for takeout, since you can call ahead and once you get there food is ready. Usually they tell you only wait 10mins and they only take cash. Ordered the special dinner for 4, comes with General Tso chicken, sweet & sour chicken, beef w/ broccoli, pork lo mein, chicken teriyaki, pork fried rice, wonton soup, and egg rolls. This is a great deal and tons of food (even for leftover). Foods were good and delicious. Overall, great food for decent price. read more

My friends and I love this place. I live out of state and every time I'm back in town we order from here and have a girls night to catch up. Their crab ragoons with a side of sweet and sour sauce are my absolute favorite (cannot find them comparable anywhere else). Also cannot go wrong with some vegetable lo mein. read more

I ordered General Tso's from here a couple of days ago, and I was very disappointed. The pork fried rice and the chicken tasted exactly the same. In Lewiston, it's either China Moon or nothing if you want chinese. I'm going to go with nothing for a while. read more

Update: April 17, 2010 OK, some credit where it's due...I wonder if the owners of China Moon have been reading such reviews, and if so, good for them, because just lately the food here has been MUCH MUCH BETTER than in the past. They now take a bit longer to prepare the food, and it shows. Much fresher tasting (no longer stewed to death). I haven't noticed any new folks in there doing the cooking, so they seem to have just gotten better. I'd much prefer to wait 15-20 minutes than 5-10 minutes and actually enjoy eating the food. I hope they keep up the good work! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately this is the only Chinese restaurant/ take out in Lewiston. If they had some competition nearby then maybe the quality of their food would improve. The food served is very bland, not fresh tasting, and tends to be very oily. If you've ever eaten good quality Chinese food then you would immediately recognize that this is definitely not it!. People can get used to eating garbage I suppose! The food from China Moon varies from awful to mediocre at best, according to who seems to be cooking. The best description I could give the food from this place is "Edible" (but sadly not enjoyable). Ordered take out for lunch. I had the crab Rangoon, egg drop wonton soup, and pork egg Foo Yung. Rangoons were crispy but the filing was on the sweet side. The broth for the soup was all oil, no flavor didn't even eat it and the egg Foo Yung had decent flavor but again very oily. Not impressed read more

It's been years since China Moon was reviewed, but it hasn't changed much. Overpriced, only takes cash and when I purchased an order of sesame chicken it was quite spicy. I've had it before, it wasn't this way previously. I would describe it as BBQ, therefore I thought I had the wrong order. I called to let them know and the person answering the phone told me it was their sauce, there was no mistake. They do not deliver, therefore I would have to drive back out if I wanted a new order, but due to his insistence that there was no mistake I decided not to. I received a call back less than 5 minutes later from a female employee reiterating what they could do for me. I appreciated the customer service follow up, but I wouldn't order the sesame chicken from there again. Vegetables not fresh. Meat bad quality. Plus very very bad service!! So we ordered Kung Pao chicken, they gave us the wrong dish and told us they are the same just with different nuts. Seems that they did not want to cook another dish for us as the woman kept emphasizing that they are the same. We took it since we didn't want to bother. BUT they did not tell us those two have different prices! They are actually cheating their customers! When we pointed that out at checkout, the woman claimed that she already told us they cooked the wrong dish and we did not refuse to take it. And when we were talking about it, the chef came out to yell with some language that we don't understand. Very rude!! And the woman kept saying that this is Lewiston and everyone is nice and they won't care about it if they got the wrong dish and she was nice enough to give us extra rice although we did not ask for it. That was ridiculous! These people are just unreasonable and despicable! In summary, terrible service, terrible food. Don't come here even if it's the only Chinese restaurant in town!! read more

I love this place because it is there!...I am just so appreciative that there is "authentic" chinese food available within a 15 minute drive of where I live (Youngstown)...OK, so it is a bit on the oily side, but hey, so is the local pizza!...I have always noticed that the people working there work hard and get my order done very quickly...I appreciate that! read more

I'm surprised that this place doesn't get more solid, good reviews. We live in Deveaux in nearby Niagara Falls and only just last year realized it was nearby and tried it - to our delight it was some of the best-tasting Chinese food we've been able to find up here. We always get take-out and I can't think of a time they messed up the order at all, and the food is consistently good with few exceptions. Usually my partner gets General Tso's chicken. I vary among a few things, but the lo mein is good, as is the moo shu (I like the pork). For appetizers, the dumplings are excellent and we LOVE the chicken teriyaki sticks and the crab rangoon is a good bet. We've had a couple of their soups - also tasty. There's not much to complain about as far as I am concerned, except maybe for parking (not always easy to find a spot nearby) and definitely for the cash only policy. I get it, but at the same time it can be very inconvenient for the customer. I'd rather they charge a little more for the food and accept credit cards. read more

To me, it is pretty much like every other Chinese place. You know what you're getting for the most part and it is reasonably priced. The food does seem to taste a bit fresher than other places and the lady up front is very nice, which you don't really see in these places. After finding Apple Granny's being closed due to remodeling, I looked at the chinese restaurant right next to it. I had avoided this place for about a year straight despite living in this town because it just... it looks like it's going to be bad. The outside view of the shop makes it seem small and uninspired, not that I care - I've had a couple drinks and I want something to take home. Looking at their menu taped to the outside window, it looks basic but satisfying so I go in. I ordered four things: Shrimp Fried Rice, Vegetable Chow Mein, Cashew Chicken, and two Egg Rolls. He asked me once if I meant Chow Mein or Lo Mein - I said Chow Mein. After being told it would take 15 minutes, I sat down and waited with a cigarette in between and checked out the place. Plain inside, a couple Chinese decorative things around - a colorful picture of a family being fed, a calendar with some female idol plastered on it. Fridge with canned soda. Mcdonald's style faux-wood obviously-plastic garbage deposit. No music, except for the tinny techno being played in the back kitchen of which no workers seem to be aware of. I paid about 15 bucks, not bad. Dropped a couple bucks in the sad tip can. I work a job that basically lives on tips, but I've also worked jobs that have a tip jar but don't seem to get much of anything, with like 10 bucks between four people at the end of the day, so I know how it goes. I got home with my big bag of four containers plus my egg rolls and a fortune cookie. The roll was a tad doughy and floury but not bad at all. I opened my containers. One was just straight up vegetables - bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, looks like. When did Chinese restaurants start including a complimentary vegetable order? I'm starting to like this place already. Then I open the next one - plain white rice. I'm a tad confused. I ordered three dishes, got four containers, but one is vegetables and one is white rice, both which I didn't explicitly order with words. Open the next and it is the cashew chicken. Looks good. Next is shrimp fried rice, which is sparse and 98% made of rice with very little vegetables or.. anything. Shrimp is present so that's good, I guess. The chow mein was missing. Could I go back and complain? I guess, but it's winter and nasty cold outside. Did I get a receipt? Of course not. No way to prove it but to bring the food. What a pain. The vegetables are delicious, but I slowly realize - unless they're using a masterful combination of spices, this is cooked is some sort of meat juice. In fact, I rip the container ever so slightly while opening it and juice flows out a bit, so I hold the container over a bowl with my fork stopping the vegetables from falling, and a thick, whitish juice flows out, slowly filling the bowl. I'm not trying to fault a fast food-ish place - especially a Chinese restaurant - for something like this, you get what you pay for. But why drown the vegetables in meat juice? Anything else I would expect it. I didn't even order this. What is this? Why is this here? The cashew chicken is also pretty tasty but very sweet. Not a nutty kind of subtle sweet, either, more like a sugary sweet. The shrimp fried rice tastes much like I thought it would, which is great, but I can't get over it being a whole ton of rice and not much else. Give it something, anything else. There's a tiny bit of green onion and white onion, but no other vegetables or anything that I can see besides little shrimps. Not the happiest with how it turned out, but I honestly didn't expect a whole lot. I will probably order again from this place, because by this time I will eat just about anything that isn't pizza, barbecue or Italian around here - but I will have to be a bit more specific with my order, check my package before I leave with it, and keep my expectations low. read more
