I really wanted to like this place. Very cool older couple running it and the service was fast. The food lacks any love or flavor. I ordered crab ragoon, shrimp egg fo young, shrimp spring rolls and mai fun. The crab ragoon was cooked so hard you had to break off the tips to get to the filling. I don't know how this place has any positive reviews? The food is mid tier at best. And the service is very rude! I do commend them for having a lot of vegetarian menu items. However if you give a vegetarian a meat based item by accident, that is your mistake. Not the customer's! TAKEOUT ONLY!! This place has been on my list for so long I can't believe I waited so long for this ! So many vegan and vegetarian options ! I got some general tso's mock chicken (comes with rice) & then their fried veggie dumplings. Absolutely amazing. Update is over-due. The last time I was here to splurge on a ton of vegan eats for my whole family on my birthday, was the best experience I've had at China Panda. The man behind the counter was SUPER friendly and helpful. The food (so much food!) was ready in 15 minutes, topped off with extra fortune cookies. (Yes, I told him it was my bday, embarrassing I know but hey.) When I came to pick it up, he had everything in a box and carried it to my car for me. The food was awesome. They have a vegetarian menu, though it's not totally clear what's vegan. We made educated guesses, based on what a vegan influencer posted. We got hot and spicy mock beef, general tso's mock chicken (this was hands down the best), kung pao tofu (amazing), and veggie and bean curd soup (this wasn't something I would recommend). The prices were very reasonable for big portions. If you're looking for ambiance or fancy dining, this won't be it. There was only 1 table and it's not clear to me that you can eat in. I simply just threw my food away and I will definitely not be going back since I also did see no gloves while touching the food I'm not sure why no gloves are being used but every time I would look back to the kitchen no gloves were being used when TOUCHING food. Everytime I come here it is always delicious. I dont know why people let some rude experiences from others impact their mood for how yummy food can be. I personally only ever have good experience with everyone I dealt with here. But seriously there are different customs. I come from a family not from the US and just because someone doesn't try and make you feel like royalty doesnt mean they don't have delicious food!! That being said. As a vegetarian their menu is straight up BANGING and for the prices its sometimes surreal. Most hipster places throughout Richmond will charge much more for dishes like these, and the portion sizes are large. This is chinese American to the fullest, so it is super catering to that crowd. Vegetarian wontons are hard to find, and these are vivid green and so yummy, fried to perfection. The crispy eggplant may not be the healthiest option but the garlic sauce is so thick, there is a balance of sweetness and umami and its dynamite! Seriosuly it is hard to go here and not get this dish. The mock sesame chicken is perfect, yo seriously their recipe for their imitation meat is delectable. And everything tastes fresh. The vegetable lo mein may seem thinner than other places but it is tasty! Right amounts of flavor, not overly saucy. Real good. The string beans have a kick and it is perfect! Id let it kick me all damn day because of the pieces of garlic and pepper. Delicious! All in all. I can't speak on the non vegetarian menu. But try branching out! Giving 4 stars because despite its reputable mock orange beef and fried rice, it's still a bit oily. Not so much that when eating it you think "man this is oily", but more so the after feeling of "this is really sticking to my ribs." I'm very picky about my sweet and sour sauce but their sauce is the best I've had in richmond from any cheap takeout Chinese place. The chicken was fluffy and perfectly cooked; I enjoyed it so much! They also included a free Chinese scroll calendar in my delivery and it was such a beautiful unexpected surprise! I loved it! I really wanted China Panda (Sheppard St) after not having any in years because I thought they were closed. Man, that lady that owns the restaurant is rude as fuck. I didn't even order food. I should have listened to the reviews about how awful she is to everyone. It's as if she's pissed that you had the audacity to think you could order food from there. Also accused me of wanting things for free. "Maybe when YOU own a restaurant YOU can give out things for FREE!". Woah, woah, woah. I was simply asking if you could substitute something. All you had to say was "No we don't do that." They have 3.7 stars for a very good reason. Ordered food here w my girlfriend. After realizing the food ended up being more expensive then what was marketed, I politely asked for a copy of the receipt. She then shook her head and mumbled some type of disapproval under her breath. The price (and proximity from where I live) keep me returning out of convenience, but Tina, the lady at the front is one of the most rude people I've ever dealt with. She has not only been rude to me, but basically everyone I've gotten food with. She is confrontational, rude, short with responses, and doesn't know how to be in a customer service role. It's happened so much that I've been ordering less just so I don't have to talk to Tina. I even know people who will refuse to go there since encountering her bad attitude. And on top of this, if you see the website for the restaurant they make slight mention of her saying something along the lines of "she is known for being short with people..." that's an understatement. So I know a lot of people like this place, and it's pretty ok for southern US chinese food, they have a ton of vegan options (seitan is not gluten free tho to my knowledge). But anyway this review is about their rudeness... There are many occasions that we go to China Panda, and I have taken notice that when my partner who is dark brown skinned orders they have much more negative experiences. It is no secret that many people in this country have anti-black sentiment, and I don't think this should go without mention. My partner was completely ignored for fifteen minutes when they tried to order in person. Many people walked past them but didn't speak or acknowledge they were there. They then called in to the restaurant and were immediately met with a harsh tone from the woman at the front. They were berated throughout the entire call including her shouting "so what is it that you do want?" I think it's critical to support small businesses, especially now, but it is also a time to hold people responsible. read more

After seeing the positive reviews on this site I decided to order delivery from China Panda. It was pretty good. I ordered the crab rangoons, cold sesame noodles and Szechuan tofu. The crab rangoons were plentiful and contained a good punch of flavor. The cold sesame noodles were my absolute favorite dish (maybe the best cold sesame noodles I've had in Richmond?). They were a little spicy, peanut buttery and packed full of umami goodness. I did not want to stop eating them. The Szechuan tofu was a little disappointing. The tofu itself was fried but soggy. If it's going to be prepared this way, I expect it to be crisp. I wondered if my order had sat in a delivery truck for a while, but I only live about 6 blocks from the restaurant, which leaves me skeptical. There was a nice amount of vegetables in the dish, but the sauce was very heavy and salty. A few bites and I felt like a bloated balloon. I'd definitely order again for the cold sesame noodles and to try some of the other menu items. There are also a few booths if you want to eat in the restaurant. read more

Let's start with customer service. I was very happy with the interactions of the people on the phone and in the restaurant. I was greeted when I walked in and informed that it would be a minute, (I was early anyways) that that where finishing up. Next thing I noticed was the physical location. It was easy enough to find parking, but it wasn't a busy day, but the only parking is on street parking. I do not recommend parking at the 7-11 across the street, find a spot on the street if you can. The building was easy to get to, and the inside is very small with only a few tables for dining in. The food was pretty on par when compared to other places I have ordered Chinese food from. The spring rolls had kind of an odd taste to them, but the orange chicken was really good and they have a lot of vegetarian/vegan options so this was a plus. Overall I would order from here again and they are just outside of my delivery range so I will have to do pickup, but that is fine with me, the food was very good and portions were spot on. read more
