Decided to give this place a try for takeout and it was decent overall. The wings had good flavor and were covered in sauce, which I liked, and the fried rice was seasoned pretty well. The sweet and sour chicken had a nice crispy texture at first and the portions were definitely generous for the price. That being said, the food was a little inconsistent. Some of the wings could've been fried harder because they got soggy pretty quickly sitting in the sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was okay, but nothing that really stood out compared to other spots around town. Not a bad meal by any means, but not something I'd go out of my way for either. This was probably the worst Chinese food I've had for years. I was craving some takeaway General Tso's Chicken and Lo Mein (I don't care if it is "inauthentic" mind you) and decided to check this place out and it was godawful. The chicken was fried until dry and tough and then drenched in orange sauce, the lo mein was mealy and reeked of grease (with shrimp as hard as bullets), and the special bowl was overstuffed with soggy rice. I couldn't even finish my first helping. The smell alone (like burnt oil) was so overpowering that I had to toss the whole mess in the outside trash. I waited 30 minutes and paid $22 for that. We all have our fave Chinese dishes and I'm no different in that I prefer the classic Triple Delight. That would be shrimp, chicken and beef with all the veggies mixed in. If available, I take mine with fried rice. So, it's no surprise, that's what I ordered when I called this place for take out. They do their's Sichuan style or on the spicy side. Now that's fine with me and I will actually give them kudos because the friend rice was better than average. I also ordered 2 of their egg rolls which were just not good at all. Hardly any taste & a bit soggy. This place is clearly for take out as there is only one table inside and 2 outside. There is parking on the side the of the building so you don't have to park on the street. It's always a challenge to find your 'go to' Chinese take out when you move to a new city but so far, this place has it. If you read my reviews, you will see that I rarely give a restaurant a low rating. Even when they are struggling, I appreciate the fact that they are there. However, I'm gonna have to make an exception for this establishment. Ordered take out and had it delivered. The egg drop soup had almost no flavor and the chicken with broccoli in garlic sauce that was billed as hot and spicy wasn't. On top of all that, they shorted me an egg roll. Since I ordered through a delivery company I wasn't going to make a big deal about the egg roll as they probably had no way of getting it to me and I had no desire to drive out there to pick it up. Typical chinese take out place. It was late at night on a Monday, and we suddenly got a craving for some chinese food. I googled around and saw this place was open until 11PM. No place delivers to our home, so we ordered for take out and went to pick it up, and it was ready within 10-15 minutes. We ordered Chicken lo mein and General Tso chicken. The lo mein was a little lack luster. It lacked flavor, but just seemed like it needed more salt or soy sauce. The general Tso chicken was very tasty. The texture of the chicken was a little mushy, but that was probably from steaming on the drive home. They give you A LOT of food, for a decent price. The only positive on this meal was the price and delivery, even for cheap take out this was average. For starters the spring rolls were the size of halloween candy, i understand they are a dollar but if you have to raise the price raise the value please. They were also very doughy and kind of under cooked, not alot of noodles or vegetables. The hot and sour soup to me had to much going on to me but maybe i prefer things simpler. finally and the most infuriating point to me was the disgraceful fried rice i received, the least a chinese restaurant can do is use asian style rice, the rice i received was definitely not jasmine and honestly had a taste and look of rice pilaf or cheap store brand rice. The lunch specials here range around $5-5.75 (lower, depending if you get only vegetarian fare). It comes with an entree, your choice of fried or white rice, and an eggroll or a soda. Since this is literally the closest Chinese place near campus (I can walk right out of my biology classes into this restaurant), lunch is both convenient and inexpensive. Pepper steak is so-so, chicken dishes are usually good. I go here mainly for the shrimp and lobster sauce. They give you a lot for what you pay. However, grabbing lunch here literally means to grab and go; there are 2 or so tables in this small restaurant and the atmosphere isn't exactly unfriendly, but i wouldn't say it's very welcoming, either. I also noticed that for some odd reason, it takes forever for my food to be done if I go inside and order, as opposed to calling ahead and having it ready before I can even get there (10-15 minutes). Try this place out found it on yelp wanted to get some Chinese chicken noodle soup and they were very very close to where I was the soup was good it was a little darker in color than the places that I've normally been I've been to a couple places and got the same thing but it taste just as good I'll definitely keep going back there it was nice it was clean inside my weight wasn't long there was nobody in there when I went so I'll definitely go back and try it again. read more

The secret to many restaurants, especially modest ones, is knowing what to order and what not to order. I have found that, at China Dragon, you can actually order excellent and HEALTHY food, provided that you keep the order simple. Order any meat (such as beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, etc.) with vegetables (such as broccoli or mixed vegetables) over white rice. It will always come with your typically good Chinese restaurant brown sauce. You can even specify "spicy" if you want. And then, what you get will ALWAYS be good. Remember to focus on the simple and straightforward: no deep fried this, or General Tso that, or mystery delight what not, or fried rice. A very healthy item is the Bean Curd (i.e., tofu) Szechuan Style, but be sure to ask for steamed tofu (as opposed to the deep fried tofu). That being said, when the delivery man called, he and I couldn't understand each other to give the correct address. When I called the restaurant to figure out what was going on, the woman on the phone was very adamant to tell me that this mistake was my fault. Whenever I'm craving Chinese take out, I struggle to find a good place in RVA. China Dragon's low delivery fee was great, but be sure to plan for a wait (50 min). For the price, the portions are larger than expected. The schezuan bean curd was flavorful with a kick and the tofu had a light crisp to it. While my chicken with mixed vegetables was fresh, it was not very flavorful. The most disappointing was the "fried rice" that seemed like more like microwave Mexican rice. I just recently moved to Richmond, and this is the first place here from which I've ordered Chinese food. It happened to be the first link on Google for my search criteria. I clicked the link expecting to see a menu, but this miraculous screen appeared, telling me that I can order online for delivery. Oh, I don't have to place a phone call? Sold. The food arrived about an hour after I ordered, so if you think you'll be ravenously hungry just plan ahead for that. I got the chicken wings and shrimp chow mei fun. The wings aren't the best I've ever had, but they're edible. Greasy and kind if bland, but edible. The mei fun, however, is very delicious.
