We had a craving for Chinese food in the U.P. and a friend recommended China Lily. Great find! It's family-owned and off the beaten path in Gladstone--Lily came to our table to chat with us. The food is very good--I ordered the chicken with broccoli and my husband had the honey chicken. Food is brought to the table fast and piping hot. The prices are reasonable. The phone rang nonstop and I quickly figured out that this is more popular for takeout than dining in. The dining room is rather small and has a LOT of crystal on display. (A bull in China Lily would have a field day, but I digress.) The only negative: even for dining in, meals are served in styrofoam containers...nooooo! Cups are styrofoam. Utensils are single-use plastic. While I love the food I am guilt-ridden about the waste. Please, Lily, consider real plates and flatware and paper takeout containers. We found China Lily while staying in Gladstone for the last week and we are so happy we checked it out! My husband ordered the orange chicken and was so happy with the flavor and quality of the meal, let alone how much there was! He wasn't able to finish it by the time we left our AirBnB for the week. I ordered the egg drop soup and was so impressed I ordered it 5 more times within the week. My daughter and husband loved it too! The value is amazing, the taste and flavor is delicious and authentic, and we can't wait to visit again next time we're in town. I also have allergies (including a soy and MSG allergy that makes it more difficult to order at Chinese food restaurants) and Lily was happy to let me know what was in the soup so I knew it was safe for me! This might be one of those places where everybody who loves it orders the same thing. I got something with pork, veggies, & rice and thought it was kind of gross. We stopped here on a whim while passing through the area and now my husband is really sad because he loved the food so much but it's really far away from where we live. We ordered the beef and broccoli, beef teriyaki, and vegetable chow mei fun. All amazing. My husband put in a second order of beef and broccoli and beef teriyaki to go for tomorrow. My husband and I order a variety of items and share them buffet style at home. Everything is so fresh, made to order and delicious. It is also quick. I can call in a order for pick up and 15 minutes later, it is bagged up and ready to go! My favorite items are the Shrimp Egg Foo Yung, pan fried dumplings, Won Ton soup, House Fried Rice and Honey chicken. Do not hesitate to try their food, you will not be disappointed. The first time the dish was perfect, I was very impressed with the flavors coming from a restaurant in bum frick Gladstone. First time here tonight and got carry out and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes when we called in the order. Damn, they must have some hot woks!!! It was ready!!! This was my first time in the new old Delta Pub and didn't know what to expect as I haven't heard much about CL. It's a nice little carry out joint with a smallish dining area that is new and nice compared to what I was expecting. The menu is pretty common and on par with all Chinese restaurants and seems like they offer a nice lunch special selection. I had the Double Delight and the Mrs. Had a special ordered steamed shrimp and broccoli dish and both were spot on. Not over oily like other places and great mix of protein to veggie. Fresh, tasty and still steaming hot when we got home. Would have gotten 5 stars, but they lose a star for not having a website with their menu on it on Yelp. If your gonna be a business on Yelp, for God's sake(no pun intended) put the damn menu online so people can order from YOUR restaurant. When I asked how the new business is going, I was told " better than we ever expected". I then told them that was great, but they should add a menu to the Yelp site. At that time I was told, "We really don't need it as we can't even answer the phone sometimes" WRONG ANSWER.........this is the same mentality that the last owners of this location had and many others that ended up closing prematurely. At least lie to me and tell me We'll look into that!!! Mark my words, In this small community one badmouth review or two will spread like wildfire and cost you a few fortune cookies!!! We are not from the area and wanted Chinese food. China Lily did not disappoint. The steamed potstickers were very flavorful. My moo goo gai pan was good. General Tso's chicken was the real star of the dinner but all the above plus the egg roll were very good. The service was very pleasant. We ordered carry out and it was ready when they said it would be. I didn't know that my favorite combination of chicken breast, peapods, bok choy and mushroom is moo goo gai pan minus the carrots!
