Improve everything! Half off what we wanted to order they didn't have (soup?) Planned on eating in..... after 25 minutes of waiting.... Got Generals chicken cooked so hard you couldn't cut and Kung Pao chicken that definitely wasn't chicken. Awful ... It came to our table packaged for takeout and then she just walked away . This China King is one of those places in Ishpeming that has the right menu on paper but struggles with consistency in execution. On the food side, I ordered General Tso's chicken with fried rice and an egg roll. The dish itself is definitely standard American-Chinese fare and it is clearly on the menu, but the execution was off. The chicken had a decent initial crisp, but the sauce leaned heavily sweet with very little spice or depth, which made it feel one-dimensional halfway through the meal. The fried rice was plain and under-seasoned, mostly just colored rice with minimal mix-ins. The egg roll was the most reliable part, with a solid crunch, but that was about it. Service was functional but not particularly attentive. The order was correct and came out fairly quickly, but there was no real sense of engagement or quality control during pickup. It felt like a straightforward transaction rather than a tuned-in service experience. The ambiance inside is very basic and dated, more of a utilitarian takeout setup than a comfortable dine-in space. Lighting is bright, seating is simple, and while it is clean enough, it does not feel like a place designed for staying in and eating. It is clearly built for quick pickup and leaving. Overall, this China King falls short in execution. The food is recognizable but not well-balanced, service is minimal, and the atmosphere is strictly functional. A very underwhelming experience. Food is aplenty (combo plate has to be about 4lbs per box!) for a very affordable cost, yet lacks complexity and depth of flavor. I eat a lot of Asian cuisine when I travel, and this is definitely on the bottom of the list. They forgot my soup. The general's chicken was very good not as spicy as I like, but good. Prices are fair.

No other customers were there upon arrival. A very loud, vocal argument between employees was ensuing. My order was taken, with a surly attitude of imposition. When the order arrived it was dropped on the table, no inquiry, either then or later, if anything else was needed or how the lunch was. Angry sullen demeanor from the waitress! Plastic forks and Styrofoam plates. No pleasantries or thanks. Food was on a 1-10 scale with a ten being "wonderful" a strong 3! I will not be back. Screaming at each other shows little regard for customers which may explain why the place was empty when we arrived. read more

had a very upsetting experience as a black man here today. I came in to order food for a friend and I and as we walked in the owner at the counter turned her back to us and did not turn around until the lady who parked next to us came in. She then turned around to speak to the lady who was Clearly in after us and pretended as if we weren't there. The conversation between her and the lady was initiated by her in which I felt surprised as she did not initiate any with us. As she conversed she spoke very proper English and finished up dealing with the lady. As it became my turn to speak she became visually annoyed and indifferent. I tried to pay no attention and ordered anyway and thinking as I am a friendly person I decided to see if I perhaps could make the experience a better one. so I asked her how her day had been and she didn't answer the first time. So I repeated it again and she looked up agitated and claimed she spoke no english. Shocked as I was I decided to not make my purchase because not just a few seconds ago i saw her have a full conversation with the lady prior to my order. She even told her to have a nice day at the end of their pretty extensive exchange. I had a smile on my face since the moment I walked in and had a pleasant demeanor so to be treated this way felt a little racially charged. I really enjoy Chinese food. I am picky about certain recipes you might order at a typical restaurant. In the dozens of Chinese restaurants, the flavors found in some of the dishes at China King are among the best. There is no buffet here, it is a quick service ordering process. They have a rather large menu to choose from and can get you your food in 10 minutes most of the time. I have found the Kung Pao Chicken to be exceptional! The portion sizes are large and I was very pleased with everything. I've also had General Tao's Chicken which was good as well. I should also add that their egg rolls are fantastic and huge. One slight negative is that their customer service could use a little warming. Very blunt and rushed, but not all the time. The chicken was so dry I couldn't eat it, one little piece of broccoli that looked wilted and the rice was so hard I couldn't chew it without it hurting. I'm pretty unimpressed with the quality. When they first opened, the ingredients were excellent and above standard. I find now they lowered their quality standards. The shrimp fried rice was only mushy rice and shrimp, no other veggies or egg. The egg rolls were only filled with cheap cabbage and no dipping sauce came with it. The food was mediocre at best and was served to everyone in a styrofoam container. Also, you will use a cheap plastic fork to eat. No plates and no silverware.
