ordered combination fried rice and shrimp eggroll at 54 years i have had tons of chinese places. the eggroll is unique. a 7 out of 10. i tasted shrimp every bite. the shell is what is different. not crispy but cooked fine. the thin shell lets you taste the veggies more. on the fried rice they kindly substituted white meat instead of dark on the chicken. no veggies in fried rice. no peas. bo carrots. egg yes, shrimp, pork, chicken. the pork is the more expensive red pork. point for that. the rice is neutral flavor. the meat carries the rice. 6 out of 10. better than over 50 percfent out there. read more

TIP SHAMING The unprofessional behavior of the staff was ridiculous. As I was paying my bill the older gentleman very loudly requested a tip after I paid by Apple Pay and the receipt didn't offer a place to add a tip. I normally add a 20% tip by the way aren't mandatory. I didn't mind adding the tip however his actions were very disrespectful and bullish. read more

A good place for Chinese food in Dale City This restaurant is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Dale Blvd and Minnieville Road. It is in a reasonably large set of stores in the middle of the group of businesses. The parking is uncovered parking lot that all the stores directly open onto. There is plenty of parking for all the stores in this lot. Our group ordered takeout from this location and I picked it up. The inside of the restaurant had a large foyer at the front of the restaurant that seemed to occupy about of the space. There were about 6 booths lining the walls and several tables in the central seating area. There were not many people eating in the dining area but they had a healthy stream of customers picking up takeout. There did not seem to be much staff but the ones present were very friendly. The food was a little late from the time that they told us it would be ready. The food was reasonably priced and portion sizes were good. The food was very good. Overall, for the price, amount, and staff friendliness, I would visit this location in the future and recommend it to fellow travelers with the suggestion that the time the food will be ready should be viewed as an approximation. As a passionate Yelper I feel it's my duty to give a restaurant with 3 stars a try (especially if it's getting late and I'm hungry). I think I written this before most Chinese restaurants today have become very American. This one was no different except the food was not good. My sissy and I popped in and ordered 1/2 fried chicken with fried rice (2) (special) and fried dumplings. Each fried rice was changed to add pork or shrimp. The fried rice was bland and the grains were all different sizes which usually an indication of poor quality. The chicken was over cooked even though the color didn't show (weird). The dumplings were not freshly made and burned on one side (see pic). The bright spot is I think we chatted with the owners..nice people. She said the restaurant had been there forty years. It was also noted the 3 items with add-ons costs $41 which I think was expensive. At the end of the day this is no "gourmet" restaurant and didn't earn a return visit! read more

Decided to check this place out. Have been trying to find wings with mambo sauce in the area. We ordered the six piece wings and chicken fried rice to go. Was a little worried because the entrance, sign, and overall look of the outside was what my friends growing up in the city would call "sketch-pot". They even have the box to accept and give your food without contact. I'm used to that treatment from city living and it's nice to see they are Covid conscious. The food was a solid 3 stars. The chicken was a good original crispy wing but not too crispy. Will definitely order wings from here. Their mambo sauce was not what I was looking for but still a good sauce. The Fried rice was the show stopper for the group. I have been disappointed with fried rice since moving from the city but this is the best fried rice I've had in Woodbridge! That was a comment echoed by the other two Woodbridge-Ian's that were eating with me. We will need to try more staple dishes before I give it another star. read more

My boyfriend grew up loving this place so he wanted to share a piece of his childhood with me. I was hesitant since the reviews here were interesting, but I learned not to pass judgement until I've experienced it for myself. The interior was surprisingly very clean and the theme was consistent throughout the restaurant. Seats were pristine and tables weren't sticky like the stereotypical Chinese restaurant. I got the orange chicken and my boyfriend got the chicken fried rice. I am dead serious guys, best orange chicken I've ever had. The breading was thin enough that I wasn't eating a mouthful of breading and the sauce wasn't sickening sweet. I surprisingly finished the whole plate of orange chicken, I usually get sick after a few pieces because of all the breading on the chicken. Can't say much on the fried rice since my boyfriend hogged it all, but it had good flavor. Perfect fried rice color, definitely not too salty or flavorless. I'd say this was a successful visit! BEWARE. This is the worst Chinese food we have ever ordered! The egg rolls were inedible. They tasted like they were soaking in salt water all day. The combination fried rice was just sad. I'm health conscious so I typically order steamed shrimp and vegetables. It had a dirt taste to it and the broccoli was dirty and brown. The only thing that was half way decent was the kid's sweet and sour chicken; however, three bites in and my three year old daughter's bottom lip started to blister. She is severely allergic to nuts. Our best guess, since the owners denied it when we called, was that they cooked cashew chicken in the pan before our order and didn't clean it! We ended up throwing everything away. In my opinion, this is the best Chinese food in Dale City and maybe even all of Woodbridge. This is always and will forever be our "go to" Chinese choice. I really like the classic 70's decor, which is a throw-back to when Chinese restaurants were traditional sit-down dining and not a buffet or a take-out kiosk. The service is always awesome and the food is always fresh, delicious, generously portioned and reasonably priced. Being a vegetarian is not a problem with this restaurant, because they have several items on their big menu available. This may seem silly, but I even like the ice tea they serve here. China Gourmet is tucked directly next door to the Giant Food grocery store in Center Plaza, and was right under my nose for years before I tried it after becoming disgusted with Sampan, Top China, and others. Man, this was good! My boyfriend and I recently moved to the area, and after a less than stellar experience with another Chinese place, we decided to try China Gourmet. The ordering experience was fantastic - the lady who answered the phone was kind, polite, and very helpful when I asked questions about the curry beef. Sometimes placing an order for Chinese food is somewhat an adventure, but this was so easy and she was sure to wish me a good night and weekend before hanging up. The fried wontons were fantastic, and the beef on a stick was tender and so flavorful. I tried the curry beef and it was really good too. My boyfriend wasn't a huge fan of the fried rice, saying the flavor was a bit off, but considering how good everything else was, I think it might just be a one time thing. All in all, a fantastic experience and this will definitely be my go-to Chinese restaurant in the future :-) read more

Family run business that makes some of the better Chinese food in the Woodbridge area. The dining room has seen better days (or years) but we normally do carry out. China Gourmet gives you a lot of pretty good food for the money. Stay with the tried and true.... low mein, beef and broccoli, mushi pork, egg rolls etc. For the more daring.... Happy Family and Hunan Combination are good with plenty of beef, shrimp and pork. I like that they either do not use or sparsely use the Chinese five spice seasoning that shows up at a lot of places. Their spicy dishes are not very spicy so you may need to have them turn up the heat if you are looking for Chinese that bites you back. Reliable place. read more

My husband ordered general tso dinner, I had a combo lo mien and chicken teriyaki stick. The rice was extremely plain just looks like soy sauce with rice sprinkled with some pork on the top. General tso was nothing special. We were charged and given a large lo mien.. When I told them small.. Wtf? It was sour tasting idk weird nothing I've tasted before. The teriyaki chicken same stringy and has a foul smell taste like it's been fermented.. Rude service but nice on the inside compared to other chinese places. Small portion for the dinner combo.. I second what Bad R. said. The food from China Gourmet is very good, they give you large portions and they have great customer service. We order regularly and always get great, fast service. We usually order on Friday nights. They tell you 40 min. but it rarely takes that long. It's usually less than 30. The pork fried rice is excellent. As Bad R said, plenty of pork, egg & onion and quite tasty. Gen Tso's chicken is great, shrimp lo mein excellent, crab rangoon, chicken with broccoli, wonton soup, all very good. The only thing I've had that is not so great is the chicken wings. They have very hard crunchy breading and are rather greasy. The sweet and sour chicken is about the same- real greasy. Everything else we've had is very good. One of my faves is the chicken with vegetables. Excellent. They are very nice and always thank you, tell you have a good night/wkend.
