Not impressed and I won't ever be back. I got the mini meal for $10.25 and this is what it came with.... Just a few little pieces of shrimp and hella rice. Hella over priced and food was not good. I won't be back. The photo attached is how it came, I didn't eat any yet before taking a photo. Hella skimpy.

Here we are at another iconic East Oakland restaurant located on Fruitvale Ave near MacArthur Blve. just off the 580. Fruit and Mac, as they say locally. China Gourmet Express is certainly express, but not really gourmet. It's a fast Chinese food setup here mainly for take out by the locals. Been here for over 20 years! Parking is a pain as there just street parking and not the best of neighborhoods. The set up inside is sort of like a Chinese buffet, except you pay ala carte and you don't serve yourself. But you do get to see the food choices before you order. The menu options are ala cart orders of the food you see in front of you or combo plates (boxes) of various fried and sauced entrees, like sweet and sour chicken or pork, broccoli beef paired with chow mein or fried rice. Prices are reasonable for a quick meal after work and you just wanna eat and not think too hard. We got to go as that's the norm here. We had General Chicken, noodles with shrimp, and a couple of combo plates with I think what was Kung Pow Chicken and one with sweet and sour pork, both with chow mein and rice along with one of those fried crab rangoon things. We drove up to the hills to a park to try our food. Not bad .... decent quality for what it is. The food is already made in the steam tray so , no not cooked to order, but still, fast and tasty enough. Yes, this place does have character and represents a real locals Chinese to go place in an urban enviornment.

Chow Mein with Chicken and Vegetables- a mini plate.

CGE is a simple quick in/out spot, with mediocre flavor (not offputting just not blow your mind delicious, the type I crave at my fave sit-down/takeout near Safeway in the hills). We tried 2 mini's (rice or chow mein & an entrée) for $9.50'ish. Our chow mein, fried rice, orange chicken & chicken/ vegetables were nothing special- just blah. However, no like I wasn't going for a culinary experience- heck, I was across the street entering Farmer Joe's (great parking to offset street options at CGE) and spontaneously walked over to consider giving it a 2nd try (first was last year & l purchased large portions of fried rice and chow mein for a work party). Yes, I'd consider coming back for a quickie a couple times a year (maybe once,) but definitely NOT EVER ordering their oil-packed egg rolls; we took one bite, spit those out & threw away 2 full orders- I don't recommend them at all (0 stars).

Atmosphere is not good. They are doing a lot of noise and the fish is really salty. Also they only allow cash credit card or debit card payment what makes me walking to the bank and back

Got beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, white rice and salt and pepper fish.

This place used to be so good. Total came up to $60 for 4 things, after being told they only do combos around lunch time. The food wasn't worth $60 if you ask me, especially when it tastes like it's been out all day not fresh at all. The sweet and sour chicken was dry and old. Food packed sloppily, the juice was falling out of the container to the bottom of the bag. I won't be back.

So I went there for the first time a few days ago and what I will say is the staff was very friendly I don't like that they take cash only for some reason it wasn't taking my card and their ATM so I had to walk up the street to the bank so if you are going to go to this place make sure you have cash. I got a three item and I got spicy chicken and teriyaki chicken definitely will say that I like the teriyaki chicken rice and chow mein were kind of normal. What I will say about this food is make sure you eat it hot and fresh because this is not food that's good when it's cold or being warmed up the next day it leaves like a weird after tasting your mouth. I also got the pot stickers which they were good and I got chicken egg rolls which had a lot of vegetable and a little bit of chicken so if I do go back I probably won't get those again overall the food was pretty decent they give you a big portion and it was decently priced. No dine in.

By far my FAVORITE Chinese food spot, the food is always good, I've been coming here for the past11 yrs! And it NEVER Disapoints, they also give you a good amount of food, I always have left over for next day!, nice, clean, friendly and fast service!, idk why it has 3 stars..it needs to be 5, my FAVE is the thin noodles, along with teriyaki chicken, and fried fish, but EVERYTHNG IS GOOD. This over nasty ass Panda any day!

Uncooked chicken

Went in today at 3:00pm, 12/27/20, came home to Uncooked kung pao chicken, the chow mein was cold, will not be coming back. If I get sick I will sue. I should not even give it 1 star. Disgusting. Poor rude customer service as well.

Blown away. No really... The amount of times i've entered Chinese food restaurants and enjoyed good food along with good service is countless, but this place definitely stood out to me. I'll start with the service, because that is what really urged me to write this review. Its not that it was good, but because it was impeccable costumer service! I truly believe that they provide above and beyond service; service that falls under the category of being nearly my best experience with restaurants. Just thorough and, impeccable... Alongside the excellent service was the food quality, which is pretty important when it comes to "express" restaurants. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, and no complaints whatsoever! They deserve to have 5 stars on yelp because thats the type of business this is. Thank you!

Shan Dong - Sesame Paste Noodles

This time, we ordered a few dishes to try - the classic sesame paste noodles, Shan Dong chicken, the fried rice with shrimp, and the hot spicy eggplant. Since we did order delivery on a busy Saturday night, it took a little over an hour for our food to arrive. The food was expertly packed and we were given plenty of utensils and napkins. The sesame paste noodles are one of my favorite dishes here, there's a balance of sweet and salty offered in the creamy sesame paste sauce that's so addicting. I've always been a big fan of the hand-pulled noodles which are thick, bouncy and chewy. The Shan Dong chicken is deep fried and coated in a delicious sauce. It is more of the sweeter side if you're looking for something that's spicy. I appreciate that we were given large pieces as well! The fried rice with shrimp is amazing - I love the crunch of the green onion, the softness of the fried egg, and the texture of the rice and veggies which weren't soggy and still held a nice bite. Last but not least, the hot spicy eggplant was a great choice because it's usually the trickier dish to cook as eggplant can turn really soft and mushy. I was delighted that with the way it was prepared, the large eggplant pieces still held a tender texture that did not fall apart. I also enjoyed the sauce that was paired with the eggplant, which is oyster-sauce based and added a pleasant sweetness as well. I'm always looking forward to my next visit and I love supporting Shan Dong!

Every dish had great balance -- rich flavors without feeling overly heavy. The handmade noodles and dumplings are a standout and taste incredibly fresh. Portions are generous, making it perfect for sharing with family or friends. Beyond the food, the atmosphere feels welcoming and unpretentious, and the service was efficient and friendly. It's one of those places you leave already thinking about what you want to order next time. Definitely one of my favorite spots for consistently delicious Chinese food!

They close super early, so get there in time for take out for dinner (I think they close at like 6?) Parking is an actual nightmare unless you're willing to pay or walk. But that's China Town for you. Service is fast and friendly. I like that they let me practice my Mandarin. It can feel a little crowded at times, but that's the price you pay for really good food.

Getting right to it, 4 stars because it's so affordable! However, there are some things I want to…read morepoint out that would actually make this spot more of a 3 star visit. 1. The attached parking garage charges $2/every half hour. Granted, this is no where near SF parking rates, it's still an additional fee. Street parking is super hard to find, and the streets are hectic, but you can test your luck (and patience). They use little tokens now that you have to pay for before exiting. Make sure you hold onto it because a lost token will run you $48 for the day rate. 2. The spot is poppin. It's not a complaint, that's a great thing! However it's really small inside so if there's a wait, you do have to line up in a single file line along a divider wall, where you can watch diners eat. Right next to you is the take out line for BBQ orders. It can get really claustrophobic. Tables do move fast as they're quick to bring out food, however you may be asked to just share a table with someone else. They have a couple round tables for the communal dining, or larger groups (up to 8). This is an ideal spot for 2-4 people. 6+ may cause you to wait longer for seating. 3. The tap water tastes kind of weird. They bring you a hot cup of tea too but the herbal taste is a bit too strong for me. 4. The bbq items are just okay :( I did a 3 item bbq combo with rice for about $21. You get a generous portion of meat, rice and a few pieces of steamed Chinese broccoli (gai lan). No sauce to dip or anything, but they do have a black bean sauce on the table to use. The sauce is pretty salty though, so just keep that in mind when you're adding it on. No spicy condiments on the table unfortunately. The duck was decent, but the bbq pork was a bit too lean for me. It wasn't overly sweet though so that was nice. The roast pork wasn't crunchy at all!! For some reason, they thin sliced it, instead of cut it into cubes. I love roast pork for the crunch so this was disappointing. The skin was more chewy than crunchy. All of the meats were tender though! 5. Fresh shrimp rice roll was hot and steamy and the price is cheaper than some dim sum spots ($7.50 for this one i think). However, you also get less shrimp. The sauce poured on was also kinda thin, and not sweet or umami enough. The rice roll itself had a good chew though, silky but a little thick. It holds up well while eating. The proportion go shrimp to rice noodle is waaaay off though. 6. Wonton noodle soup was good! This seemed like the crowd favorite as most everyone ordered this. The noodle could have had a bit more chew to it, but the wontons were bouncy and the broth comforting. You get a couple pieces of chinese broccoli with this too which is nice. The service was efficient and our main server was nice. She spoke english and actually smiled back. They take card payment too, so that's convenient. You really get some bang for your buck here, but I'd probably stick to taking food to go.

My sister had remembered an article in the SF Chronicle's Food section which ranked Misty's Tasty as "top-ranked" and "best, authentic dim sum in the East Bay". Behind a graffiti'd exterior, you enter a smaller restaurant than most and it was definitely buzzing. We got there early-ish(btw 1030 & 1100) and there was already a short waitlist. There is nothing fancy about this place and don't expect white table cloths and napkins. Once seated, be ready to order off a paper menu which also doubles as their to-go menu. Our selection consisted of * 2 orders of snowy Baked BBQ Pork buns * Pea sprout dumpling w shrimp * Steamed Shrimp dumpling (Har Gow) * Steamed spareribs in black bean sauce * Preserved meat w rice in a claypot * Rice noodle roll w beef cilantro *Bean curd skin rolls (Fu Pei Guen) * Chicken feet w Peking Sauce * Deep fried meat dumpling (Ham Sui Gok) * Deep Fried Taro dumpling (Wu Goo) * Pork and Shrimp dumpling (Sui Mai) The service was fast as each dish came out "piping hot". Each dish is categorize under Small, Medium, Large and X-tra Large. When we were leaving, there must have been 20+ folks waiting We will definitely return to try other options. Each item is priced appropriately, good portions and tasty!!

We both ordered one dish of Sui Mai to go so we could try it out. My wife and I actually liked the taste, texture and flavor. The dish includes 4 Sui Mai for $7.99 but the menu shows $6.45 for the dish so a bit confused on the price difference. We plan to go back but dine in next time so we can try the other many dishes. Based upon the Sui Mai, this is definitely worth trying out for Dim Sum. I forgot to take pictures of the Sui Mai but I did take pictures of the menus and restaurant. Review Update Paragraph: Correction to my original post, I can't do math in my head. We paid $14.99 for two orders which comes out to $7.50 each so I'm guessing the difference between the Owner's response and what we paid might be for using a credit card.
