I was disappointed with my egg roll. It is not made with egg roll wrappers; it's a thick dough that's fried. Appears to be similar to a corn dog, but sadly, not that good. I couldn't eat it and even my dog gave me a look when I set it on the floor. The sesame chicken was decent, but not especially good. The super tiny box of rice was ridiculous. It was about the size of a condiment rather than a serving. The box held approximately 3 ounces or less. What the heck? There's not much cheaper to serve than rice, so why would a Chinese restaurant be so skimpy with rice? Have gotten takeout on 2 separate occasions and one time as a dine-in customer (pre covid about 2 years ago) and EVERY time was a huge disappointment. The service was great and the restaurant was very clean.....but the food was almost inedible. It was like starch-soup and was loaded with cm itching but carrots. Could hardly tell the difference between the dishes we ordered. As much as I want to love the food here I just can't. read more

I have gone to the China Garden for years and have enjoyed it so much. I went for pickup the other day. I ordered Vegetable Chow Mein which I have always loved. I got home and all it was was huge chunks of cabbage-no carrots, no celery, no pea pods, nothing. And it went up to 11.98 for the little box. And the girl said, it is going up again. I am so very disappointed. I will not serve a place that puts out food that is nothing but a disappointment. And the girl was not friendly at all. I miss the old China Garden. The owners need to get people that serve the public. read more

I got the wrong order and they said "too bad it's too late buy something else than" on top of that it was always soggy I got a egg roll and it was sagging and I could shake it without it breaking. I also got crab rangoons and those were really dry like hard to swallow. And the rice is straight from the microwave like you can smell and feel it. One positive is if you want bad Chinese food. While in town for a visit, we were craving Chinese food, but didn't want a buffet. We did a Yelp search and a Google search. Both showed China Garden as getting very favorable reviews. So we made our way there for dinner. They are located on the backside of the parking lot, kind of hidden away. The staff was very friendly and we were seated at a nice table. The dining area was decorated pretty and classical music played softly in the background. The menu is fairly large with many options. My boyfriend and I ordered combination plates. Our companions ordered regular entrees. All of the meals included a cup of Egg Drop Soup that was very tasty. We all enjoyed what we ordered, as well as the Crab Rangoons we got as an appetizer. The Egg Rolls were kind of different, but they were still good. We would definitely go back here again if we were in the area. read more

These flavors and quality, for the price, are probably the best around. Being just road-trippers passing through, I don't really know the other local offerings, but our takeout was so very tasty and relatively fresh that for the price it was pretty much what one would expect. I was, however, a little disappointed that the "crispy noodles" in the chow mien (and presumably other dishes where they're listed) are merely a little plastic baggie full of the noodle-sticks for you to sprinkle on your dish. I was craving some great pan-fried noodles, so next time I will ask for those instead. They did allow us to easily swap out rice for noodles with another beef dish, so that was cool. Egg rolls were enormous and pretty good, too, but were rolled in a little too much rice paper then dipped and fried in a little too much batter. Tasty, but several bites were nothing but layers of dough. Fun bonus: takeout comes in the classic white boxes with metal handles that nobody seems to use any more but what I personally love to eat my leftovers out of. read more

Nom! I love this restaurant. Best chinese food in town. I sort-of make my own rules when I'm there, but mix and matching meals to make it vegan-friendly. My favorite is the vegetable deluxe in a black bean sauce. It comes with white rice, and is delicious with no fattening guilt! It's even great the next day. We normally do take out, but from what I hear.... they will deliver if over $40 total. I have been inside the restaurant before, and it's really nice. Super clean, and the staff is great. So friendly!! You also get your food really fast so that's a bonus. The price is pretty reasonable as well. My hubby is an empty pit when it comes to food, but for $30 we always have left overs the next day. read more

I may be a bit biased as I have worked at China Garden the last 14 years..but really we are hands down the best Chinese food around. Everything is made fresh and made to order. If you are on a quick lunch break we are the perfect place to come to even if you want to come to sit down and relax for a bit. Also, I saw a review that mentioned that our cashew chicken tastes like chicken pot pie. Let me just say that.. first of all, chicken pot pie is awesome. Secondly, that's my favorite dish on the menu. However, I do suggest you try the hunan chicken or moo goo gai pan. If you don't want chicken we have a large variety of vegetable, pork, beef, and shrimp dishes. My rating is relative to Bismarck, not to Chinese food in general. It simply is the best Chinese in Bismack, but there isn't a lot to compare it to because the other places either offer really cheap Americanized dishes or are buffets (grroossss!!!) No one wants noodles that have been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. Compared places outside of Bismarck, it isn't bad. They do offer authentic dishes, but they offer plenty of Americanized dishes too. Everyone can find something they like there. But their recipes are a little plain. You won't leave feeling like you just had an amazing and memorable meal, you'll leave feeling like you just ate typical Chinese food that you'll forget about in a few weeks. I doubt you'll find anything negative to say about it. I worked at an authentic Cantonese restaurant in a much much bigger city for a couple years, and they had, hands down, the best Chinese food I've ever had in America. Potstickers were great, sauce was excellent. Crab Rangoon were awesome and the orange sauce was perfect. Hot mustard was good quality and delicious; egg rolls were not. China Garden chow mien was incredible, loaded with goodies. I highly recommend this dish but the menu picture shows something less appealing, read the description and you will know. Mongolian beef had good flavor but I would not call it Mongolian beef. More like beef with onions, cabbage and carrots. Garlic shrimp was pretty much the same, great flavor & texture for shrimp, onions, cabbage and carrots. Fortune cookie was very high quality, probably the best I ever had. The China Garden Restaurant was the highest rated chinese restaurant in Bismarck that I could find on Yelp, and with good reason! They cook with very fresh ingredients here. Usually when ordering orange chicken it comes to the table in a neon-orange color that you know did not come from an orange. Instead, the chicken had the flavor and color of a homemade orange sauce done right! I also ordered a wonton soup, which was not seen anywhere on the lunch menu. Egg drop is their main soup offered with all the meals and it may be extra to have the wonton soup. My boyfriend ordered the sweet and sour chicken which was also very good. We were both a little surprised that the fried rice did not have any vegetables in it. It was very good, but odd to not see even a diced ham or onion in the rice. It did still appear to be fried rice, not white rice. Overall, very happy with the food portion size, the quality of the food, and the clean/pleseant atmosphere. I would be curious to see what the dinner menu looks like; I guess I was just expecting to see a duck special or lo mein somewhere on the menu. read more

Situated in an older mall, this restaurant has a variety of hit or miss dishes. The orange chicken and General Tso's chicken were good, but the Mongolian beef was soupy, the lo mein had too much of a mustardy taste, and the snow shrimp was coated in a white sauce that tasted like mayo and mustard mixed together. The egg drop soup was really thick, and too peppery. The establishment is clean, the servers are polite, and the prices are good, but the food was far too bland / off-taste compared to other quality (and still affordable) Chinese restaurants that we've been to. We visited with relatives that like this place, but I fear it's because they haven't been to better American Chinese restaurants. read more

Flavor is amazing in their Kung Pao Chicken but unfortunately I'm giving three stars due to receiving my plate to find only four pieces of small chicken. This place has boba!! One of the only places in all of Bismarck that has tapioca pearls and milk tea. That is what initially brought me to this place, however the food was really good as well. I had the General Tso's chicken plate, which came with soup and fried rice. Portion size was very good for the price (only $6.75). The food was spot on. I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan lunch special. The serving was smaller than I expected but it was very tasty. The menu wasn't very diverse- severely lacking in some dishes you would expect in a Chinese restaurant. The only seafood they serve is shrimp and two scallop dishes. I've normally always been happy with what I've eaten here, but today I got chicken lo mein for take-out and was completely dissatisfied. I'm almost positive there was an entire chopped onion in my one serving of the dish. The portion could have easily fed two people, but that's expected from Chinese food. The problem is there was way too much onion. Another thing is the noodles were very thick and wet, almost like a linguine or a spaghetti noodle. When I think Chinese noodles, I think skinny, moist and sticky, not slimy. It was also rather difficult to see the difference between the noodles and the massive amount of chopped onions. They all swam around on the plate ambiguously and I got a whole mouth full of onion when I was expecting noodles. I couldn't finish the dish. Basically, if you don't like onions and don't want Italian pasta when looking for Chinese, do not order the lo mein. read more

It's the flavors of the food that can be somewhat lacking at times. If you ask them to prepare a dish extra spicy, it won't be - so don't be surprised. We have been eating at this restaurant for over 15 years and after todays meal I would have to say they are really slipping. Very clean but food has gotten sub-par. The hot mustard that used to be nice and HOT is now watered down and very plain. The egg rolls are now very doughy and not much inside any more. Orange chicken dry and over done. New cook?
