    dumplings in a styrofoam container
    Leslie T.

Super fast for takeout and very nice people. The food is generally okay. I'll never get the won ton soup here again (it is brown!) and doesn't taste good. Gross The general Tso's is a safe bet. The steamed dumplings are bland but otherwise ok.

GREEN PEPPERS in Szechuan Beef?!? First and LAST time I order from China Express. Ordered General Tso's and Szechuan Beef, my two standard go-to Chinese dishes. When the food was delivered, the Szechuan Beef dish was over 60% green peppers. Green peppers?!? In Szechuan Beef??? And not a few of them - SO MUCH green peppers that it was the MAJORITY of the dish. 1. In my 5 decades of eating Chinese, I have never seen green peppers in Szechuan Beef. I double-checked the website to see if they listed this ingredient in this dish - they do not. 2. I figured this could be an easy fix. I called to get a replacement dish, as I cannot eat green peppers. But their response was that they always put green peppers in it (although not listed as an ingredient on their menu and also as an obscure ingredient for this dish), and in their opinion That is That. Deal with it, customer! Period. She actually *argued* her point. So much for customer service. A simple replacement dish would have solved this issue.

I visited with 4 friends, and we had a private booth. The food kept coming...and coming...and coming! Not too busy inside but a good amount of people for a Saturday at 7PM. We ordered a Thai Tea, Passionfruit Iced Tea, Scallion Pancakes, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Pork Shrimp Shu Mai, Cucumber Salad, Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Tiger Signature Dumplings, and Pork Chive Dumplings. Food came out as it was ready. The teas were ok, the Passionfruit was the best. The soup dumplings were disappointing. You can't avoid them breaking but there was hardly any meat, was lukewarm, and mostly fat. The Tiger Signature and Pork Chive dumplings were better, but not too much flavor. The amount of filling in there were ok. The Shu Mai and the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings were solid, not too bad at all. The Cucumber were refreshing and also a little spicy. The Scallion Pancakes were fine, nothing special. Food was ok overall. The staff is nice but it seems that they were a little slammed despite the restaurant not being too full. Hard to get the server's attention at times. I wouldn't go out of my way but I might come back if I'm in the Clarendon area again.

It took us about 5 minutes for a table to clear out and luckily it was big enough for our party of 5. We ended up ordering our drinks and food at the bar when we noticed it was going to take a while for someone to actually get to our table. After about 20 minutes our chicken, chorizo and carne asada tacos came out. For the specials they had going out, it was a great deal! $8 house margaritas $4.50 for carne asada I think $3.00 for chicken? We ended up getting almost 20 tacos, 8 margs and two shots and we had a great time! Shout out to the bar tenders that were popping out drinks as quickly as they could!

That thoughtfulness is one of the many reasons I was excited to try it. When we arrived, I was initially concerned after learning that the "G" on the menu indicated dishes **containing** gluten rather than being gluten-free. Since many menu items were marked with a "G," I worried my options would be very limited, especially for the unlimited brunch experience. Thankfully, our server, Emma, immediately put me at ease. She brought me the food allergy menu, answered my questions with patience, and made sure I understood what was safe for me to enjoy. While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. He took the time to explain my options, offered to have the kitchen modify several dishes, and reassured me that their goal was for me to feel safe and enjoy my meal. Thanks to Emma and Antonio, what started with uncertainty became one of the most enjoyable brunch experiences I've had. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. My husband had put so much love and intention into choosing this restaurant, and thanks to Emma and Antonio, we both left with happy hearts and full bellies. If you have food intolerances or dietary restrictions, I hope this review gives you confidence to visit Ambar. Their team didn't just accommodate my needs. They made me feel welcome, respected, and cared for. That's the kind of hospitality that earns five stars from me.

I was happy to find that the pho here really delivered. I ordered the beef pho, and the broth was rich, flavorful, and tasted very close to what I grew up eating. You can tell that care went into developing the broth, and that was definitely the highlight of my meal. That said, I do have some constructive feedback. I ordered both the beef pho and the special combination bánh mì, and after tax and tip, my total came out to around $30. For that price, I expected larger portions. The pho itself was delicious, but the noodle portion felt quite small, and I left still feeling hungry. If the restaurant increased the amount of noodles, I think the pho would easily earn 5 stars from me. Unfortunately, the special combination bánh mì was disappointing. The bread was very hard, dry, and tasted stale rather than light and crispy. A good bánh mì should have a crusty exterior while still being soft and airy inside, but this one was difficult to eat, and I found myself dipping it into the pho broth just to soften it up. I also felt that the fillings could be improved. The pork skin was quite chewy, there wasn't enough chả lụa, and I would have loved to see more pâté, which is such an important component of a traditional đặc biệt bánh mì. The fillings overall felt a bit underwhelming compared to the authentic bánh mì I grew up with. Overall, I appreciate that this restaurant offers authentic Vietnamese flavors, especially in their pho. With some adjustments to portion sizes and fresher, higher-quality bread for the bánh mì, I think this place has the potential to be outstanding.
