We usually go here on Sundays for dimsum. The dimsum selections are good. My favorite would be the siomai and the sesame balls. My parents love their chicken feet and sticky rice. We sometimes order beef crispy noodles and salt and pepper squid. Both are really good! The service is a-ok. They are always in a rush!! They give you a "look" when you ask them for something, like utensils, glass of water, etc! read more

China Chef - My favorite: sesame balls! - Dim Sum Near Me - Secaucus, New Jersey

Waited 11/2 hours, food came cold . The food did not taste good. Had to reheat almost entire order. Why get takeout when you still have to cook?egg rolls were soft and pork dry read more

This place is my go-to dim sum spot. Their fried shrimp ball is my favorite thing in the world. Second to that is their shumai. All the other dishes are better than most of what the rest of the area has to offer. Also way cheaper. Service is not that great but honestly I've never experienced great dim sum service anywhere so I can't punish al of them for that. As long as I get my food then I'm happy lol. In its location it's the best in its area. Really nothing to compete with in terms of food quality. read more

Been looking for a good dim sum place since I moved back from NY. The food here was good, great taste. Waitress were great and friendly I would definitely come back. read more

Honestly the food was okay. But if you're really hungry and want decent portions of fOod looks else where. I paid for chicken wings and egg fried rice and I was shocked!! The portions are for like little kids it was absurd. The wings are not your average Chinese food spot size wings. Probably the smallest wings I've ever had and the rice portion sucked as well. Their pricing is too expensive for the portions they serve. WILL NOT BE ORDERING AGAIN! read more

My daughter and I came here to get a quick take out meal to bring back to our hotel on a Saturday night . I explained that I had a pretty serious seafood allergy and could not eat selfish and asked if the vegetable fried rice was cooked away from seafood. She said it was and left. When she came back I told her I just wanted to be sure about the allergy that I don't usually eat Chinese away from home because of this. She said she went back to make sure and told The chef to make sure it was cooked away from any seafood. I have never had a Chinese restaurant take that much care in my situation. It was super cool Of her! read more

The service was horrible! At the end of our lunch, a middle-aged lady with a long face came from nowhere to wrap our food up making all the noises with plates. I guess she's not in a good mood in a beautiful Saturday or she just hates her life. The unacceptable moment was when we ask for more spicy sauce, her reaction was " for what?!" Very very very rude. We were shocked but still explained politely it's for the rest of noodles which is reasonable, I guess? I have never been served like this before. That's a brand new experience and 100% unpleasant. The food was ok. A bit salty and not too many choices of dim sum. Only some classic ones. The spicy sauce is good but it's a limited edition. If we have to pay for it, let us know! Don't act like that! Shame! read more

I have been going to china chef for over 15 years for their dim sum. Went today and was very disappointed with the service. This happened once before about three weeks ago. Their full and bottom line is they are not ready to be so busy "successful". I love the place, food is good but service just went down the hill. Waited 15 min for tea and another 30 min before one dim sum cart came by once. it never came back again... I had to flag down the manager to get service... I saw people helping themselves to water and we had to do the same for more napkins. Don't get me wrong I wish them the best but since it's so full and busy they simply don't know how to handle the business. I was talking to people sitting next to us and they said the same. They been going there for years and never saw such chaos and lack of service. I also saw few people leave since they were not getting the service or food.... Total chaos,...just saw staff running around trying to get a handle of the situation without success.. They are simply under staffed to take care of this much business flow. For me and my family we won't go back there again sorry to say. I just want nice brunch with my family on a Sunday. Not to be ignored, don't want to be nasty to get service and serve myself... its' too bad. Some people might say this is a great problem to have to fill the place but if you cant service the people what is the point... especially the loyal customers... i guess we are going to fort lee, east orange or west wood from now on... wish them the best.... read more

The only thing worse than their food is their customer service. After waiting for between 45 minutes and an hour We discovered that there portion sizes are far smaller than what you'd get anywhere else, none of the dishes even qualified as mediocre. We also discovered that we had been shorted one item which we had been charged for. We insisted that they send it, they did 30 minutes later and charged us again at prices higher than their most recent posted menu prices, and to add insult to injury the management is the rudest and most unpleasant that I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I can guarantee that I will go out of my way to make sure that I make sure that no one that I know will spend a nickel there read more

I haven't been here in awhile, but I'm happy to be back. My parents ordered so many side dishes and I'm surprised the bill wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. Definitely recommend coming here on Sunday because only on Sunday they bring around a cart to serve and you can order any side dishes and it'll be on your table in an instant. Their shrimp shumei is amazing. Also recommend ordering their yang chow fried rice and their fried chicken. Best fried chicken I ever had. read more

If you're unable to get out to Chinatown but have that special craving for good dim sum, try China Chef. Its location is pretty good, settled near Secaucus outlet stores. I actually love to shop at Sam's Club nearby, so this is the place I hop to for my Saturday brunch, before my run of errands. I've only had the full course meal here once, but I've come here numerous times for dim sum. There's only one other place in NJ that I trust for dim sum, which I'll yelp next time. This place serves rocking Cantonese, Szechwan style cuisine. I know they deliver also, if you live nearby. read more

Not bad dim sum. If you don't want to pay the toll to go across the Holland tunnel and spend an hour looking for parking in Chinatown this place is an acceptable replacement. read more

Absolutely no star. My wife and I used to go at least once a month because there is no better dim sum option nearby and the food was not half bad. however, service has gone down the drain so much that last time we went, we had to ask 5 different waiters for a glass of water and then everyone just ignored out table when we wanted to order more food. read more

I love this place they make very good authentic Chinese food. I love the peppercorn squid and the fried noodle. It seems a lot reviews are about the tipping everyone should be tipping 18% at the minimum not give 2 dollars or less than 15% and if you can't afford it order take out instead waiters have bills at the end of day like everyone else. read more

We decided to try China Chef for Dim Sum after a couple bad experiences in NYC Chinatown the previous day and we were pleasantly surprised given some of the reviews. Compared to the service in Chinatown this place treated us like Royalty! They has a good variety of dumplings which were all very good. It looked like there are a lot of regulars eating here which is always good to see. They had two steam carts and a dessert cart and all had a good variety of items. The mini custard pies for dessert were excellent. read more

China Chef - Dim Sum Near Me - Secaucus, New Jersey

Went here today for dim sum on mother's day with my wife and son. We had a reservation and we sat right away. It was understandably busy. They serve authentic Chinese dim sum, and the crowd is always heavily Asian. The service has always been poor, but today the service was horrendous! Servers walk around the restaurant offering different types of dim sum. They ask if you like this or that and you choose. After two passes of our table we became invisible. We had to ask for water several times. We asked for a specific dish (turnip) and they said they were getting it for us. When it finally came around the dish went to someone else (an Asian family). Like i said we were invisible. We told the server and they promised they would get us the next one. Then another server said they were sold out! The only friendly worker in this place is the delivery man; he's always courteous. In my experience, if you're not Asian you get horrible service. We left in disgust We're never going back again! read more

I only go for the Dim sum on Sundays. It gets pretty busy here! But there is rarely a wait. Definitely not bad for a dim sum eatery outside of NYC. All of dim sum is good. Waiter service isn't the greatest, but the staff isn't rude either, just very busy! Just don't be shy when trying to wave down a waiter so you can get a look at what they have in their cart. read more

It pains to give them only 1 star. But the food and the service was atrocious! It was plenty busy but the servers didnt really care. Had to ask for water 3 times. They brought new food out but went straight to the Chinese groups and despite us calling them over, ignored us. Then the server would bring us the same 3 items that had been sitting there and get pissy when we didnt want it. The table next to us got it worse. They complained to the lady owner and she basically told them that the food will come when it comes. It's sad as the is basically no dimsum option in this part of NJ. read more

Very bad service!!! Today we had 2 family went there. we order dumplings. I simply asked for some sauce, the waitress first give me an annoying face, telling me "you don't need that sauce". I asked again because everytime I order dumplings, I asked for that sauce. I asked again, she told me "wait a second". And she just totally ignored me and never brought the sauce. We were there for about an hour and a half, we haven't asked for the check yet. The waiter just came and pretending "you asked for the check right"? Then he just gave us the check. 10 minutes later, the same waitress came and almost like yelling" you guys paid right? You have been holding the table for hours!" Gosh, we had 9 people and some are kids, and we were not holding the table for hours! They openly asked us to leave because some people are waiting for the table. How rude these people are!! Very bad experience!! read more

Love going there for Dim Sum. We usually go opening time so that there will be no waiting time, 11:30 am on weekend. Which is good but bad because some dishes are not ready and same food keep going around. But kids have their favorite food and if we can get those, we are OK. read more

I refuse to ever step in that place again. First off the minute we sat down there was a waiter asking us if we knew what we wanted to order. Not even like 2 minutes have passed and we were obviously still looking at the menu. So when we told him we were ready he stood there waiting for us..rushing us.. pen and pad in his hand .. so rude. the food was okay but totally rushed. I went with a friend who was fasting for religious purposes and has a specific food order as to not disrupt her religious duties. They got the order totally wrong. Unfortunately she didn't realize and took a bite. After realizing the mistake she asked for them to bring her the right food. They actually picked up the plate she had eaten from and gave it to someone else in the room. I thought that was gross. When we were finishing eating the waiter came over and started taking away our plates without us even being done and put the check on the table.. I mean wtf!! we weren't done!! then waited for us to get together our money to pay.. He literally stood right next to us the entire time rushing us to pay.. The place is gross, unfriendly, and rude.. Don't waste your 20$ on crappy food to just be treated like crap by the staff..Never again will i step foot in that disgusting establishment. read more

Yuk! have been going here on and off for 30 years sum time good sum time bad today the food was disgusting it went in the garbage should not have tried to eat it my stomach is rumbling Hope it ain't food poisoning never will I order from here again if I live here's what I ordered wonton soup that was dark brown and smelled like it was cooked in an old dirty pot for a month, shrimp egg foo young brown on the outside and totally uncooked on the inside, would not even try to eat it cut the outside with a fork and the inside ran out nasty, egg rolls looked good from the outside when I bit into it the smell hit me before the taste I spit it out real quick!,spare ribs were under cooked and mushy and the fried rice was coated shiny in grease called them up to complain but the snippy lady could care less oh well lesson learned read more

Hands down the worst Chinese food in town/ and most expensive and smallest portion. Its like all the Chinese restaurants in Secaucus had a meeting and agreed if they all served garbage no one would complain... Wife ordered and the boneless spare ribs were dried leather 75% fat . It wasnt even in a hoisen sauce (red) , it was like they let a dishwasher cook that day and just put a piece of fatty pork on the grille dry and cooked it until it was chared and crunchy . Her broccoli was hard and the rice was as well as if they used yesterdays rice. After all that the food was cooling off and sitting by it there was a foul odor coming from the dish. Just dont know how these dirty places stay in business . This town is loaded w places like this and then they wonder why no one is ever in these joints. Save your money and take a ride out of the town to get your Chinese fix ..... read more

I'm not Chinese. I love Chinese food and eat lot of it but I don't know it too well. That said, I used to eat dimsum pretty regularly in Flushing and am deprived in NJ. The dimsum here is definitely poorer in quality than what you find in NC but honestly where else are you going to get your fix this side of Hudson? I think a 3 star is probably about where the quality is but when you need your dimsum this place delivers! You can also go during the weekdays and order a la cart. They'll freshly steam and bring to your table. It was just as good and it's an experience being able to enjoy dimsum with the crowd. read more

I've been going here for years. This restaurant is one of very few remaining, real sit-down Chinese restaurants left in North Jersey. Most of the Chinese joints are take-out or take-out joints with make-shift dining tables. This was the go-to spot for dim sum if you didn't want to go to the city. This was also our saving Grace after Sandy hit. They were fortunate enough to have power when we were all in the dark, hungry. The food quality had gone down a bit since I first had them over a decade ago, but they are still up and running. read more

Not the greatest food. But usually satisfy my cravings when I want dim sum and not in the mood to drive to china town

I have been eating here for a long time...so i went last mothers day to take my mother out to eat with my brother....i found that its still the same, only thing changed is its now the next generation of the family running it for i didnt see the elder chinese guy who used to be there sitting people. Now to the food! the dim sum is still as good as it was when i was 7-9-14-18-21 years old....you know the foods good when you just think and remember the taste (#fatboyproblems). It didnt matter what age me and my brother would call the cart guy/gal and just ask for it all! I am talking give me all the shumai, shrimp dumplings, sharks fin, 3 chicken fingers tins, beef dumplings etc...and i mean each tin had three four peices of the item but me and the brother would really ask them to give us 6 of this and that...we really go in and beast lol...love the family time. The shrimp fried rice and house special is still as good, concong green vegetable with garlic is still as fresh as i remembered.....my only PROBLEM and still five stars because i am fortunate place is still in business dishing out amazing food for me to come eat awesome with family...so yes my only PROBLEM is, what happened to the sauce on top of the sharks fin! Lol...it wasnt there on the dim sum dish lol...please re add it the sauce on top of the dim sum sharks fin lol...i will be back for a holiday coming up! Lol read more

China Chef - Dim sum items , fried rice, and hoe fun. - Dim Sum Near Me - Secaucus, New Jersey

Authentic Cantonese cuisine!! You can order off the menu if you speak Cantonese or ask for recommendations. Bartenders/servers were very helpful. Old school classy. Definitely worth checking out. Also get the zombie cocktail. Super delish! read more

I hate only giving a place 2 stars but at the end of the day it's all about the food. It just doesn't taste good. Any of it. Plain and simple, get a new chef. Came in for lunch and was sat right away for dim sum service. There is only 1 cart going around, which would be fine, if the woman kept going around but she doesn't. Very inconsistent. We tried a beef short rib dish, spring rolls, turnip cake, general tso, veggie dumplings, shumai....to name a few. We def tried a variety. We definitely won't be back. read more

I dropped my rating from 4 to 2 stars because the service is really starting to suck. Last couple of times here have been horrible.

Really good Chinese food for a cheap price. The general tso chicken and the king pao are great with brown rice. Cocktails specials are very cheap and strong. 6.50. Also the bartender is and very funny older gentleman that knows when to talk or leave you to yourself. There is an eating area and bar with two televisions. You can and skills the bartender to watch whatever you want on the tube. The bar is separated from the dining area by a long wall, our of view of people sitting down for a more quiet meal. read more

We went here for Mother's day dinner. Food not bad but $2 for a bowl of white rice is bad. It will keep me away.

Better than any Chinese restaurant/take-out place I've been to in the Secaucus area. Nice atmosphere, good food at an affordable price (comparable to a regular take-out joint), excellent service, and and it's very clean. Tea and wonton chips are brought to the table as soon as you are seated, and when they bring you the check, it is accompanied by a fortune cookie, and a hot towel. I've been to China Chef twice, and I really enjoy it. I'll definitely be back again very soon, and very often! read more

A good spot in North Jersey for decent dim sum. It's really all I've had here so I can't comment on the rest of the menu.

Zombies! What else can I say? One of the better bars in town. And they hook you up for around $6. Can't go wrong

Had a very mediocre early dinner here. Feels more like a banquet hall than a restaurant. There were more staff than customers, although service was not very attentive: no warm welcome, lack of chopsticks at the place setting and not even an offer of water. Plum wine was served in a tiny glass. The steamed shrimp appetizer was served in a weird dish so that any soy sauce ladled on it soaked through to the tablecloth! My main course, chicken cashew, was very bland. Central location and space between the tables are the only saving graces. Someone experienced should return this space to the diner it once was and do some serious business. read more

Pretty good dim sum on the weekend. The carts do take a longer time to come around when it's busy too. The shrimp rice crepes are my personal favorite with its sweet soy sauce on top read more

Sunday Dimsum is great. Not crowded. Food is good. Highly recommended. Will come back again.

Great customer service, best Chinese food in secaucus. Amazing dumplings and egg rolls. The China chef brown chicken is a must try!!
