Going to be fully honest the dim sum is great, the service is not a strong point. With that said I would seriously go if you want real dim sum but temper your expectations with the service. I was there this past Sunday and there was literally 1 waitress for the entire dinning room and that type of stress eats at one's ability to provide quality service. Those ribs were fantastic, chicken feet equally as mouth watering, sticky rice uhhh yes. You will leave this place with a happy mouth if you just understand what you are getting into service wise.

Came for lunch on a Monday and was not impressed. We were the only table there. Kinda awkward but no big deal. CHICKEN FRIED RICE- tasted fine-ish. Nothing special. Rice was actually pretty dark colored... would not order again PEKING HONG KONG RIBS - lots of sauce on these, tasted fine. I've had better. Would not order again tho WINTER MELON SOUP - totally gross. Just diced up tiny cubes of wintermelon, still crunchy cuz not cooked all the way. And little chunks of clams/scallop??? Not sure. Baby Shrimp And maybe pieces of chicken? Honestly have no idea what it was. DO NOT ORDER THIS SOUP. Sort of just tasted like slightly flavored water with random chunks of stuff in it. HOT AND SPICY TOFU WITH MINCED PORK (ma Po tofu) - probably the worst I've ever had in my life. Bland even though it was in a sauce. Was not spicy. Would not order again. All in all, was really looking forward to trying this place out but was truly let down. Sorry to say, bc I love supporting local businesses, especially Asian ones being Asian myself. I think I would POSSIBLY go back and try the dim Sum if someone else wanted to go, but would prob opt to try somewhere else if it was up to me.

I have to say that China Chef is a pretty solid Chinese restaurant. I've been coming here for many years and every time that I've been here the food has been fresh and delicious. Is the wait staff a little slow, yes! But that's the only negative thing you can say about this place because the food is solid. I come here with my family maybe every other month just to have the Dim Sum and we always enjoy it. And if we're not having dim sum we're ordering entrées such as chicken and broccoli, house fried rice and the house Mei-fun. All of which are delicious and well proportioned. Honestly I think this is probably the most decent Chinese restaurant that I've been to in all of Hudson County and I will keep coming back here time after time. I definitely think it's worth your time to give this place a try. It's a no-frills Chinese restaurant and you should know that going into it. I hope you enjoy it just as much as I do!

Awesome old time Chinese food restaurant. Delicious! Everything we had was great! See the pics! Two soups, two entrees, noodles, water, tea. Pork fried rice. All that food for $17!!!

Chunks of beef were way to big. Mushrooms were great though

Your average Chinese restaurant - nothing bad, but nothing spectacular. We had the shrimp&broccoli, lobster, and a beef dish. The beef needed to be cut into slices, as they came in huge chunks that took forever to chew. The shrimp was slightly overcooked, but otherwise tasted fine (I particularly liked the broccoli in this dish though - it had a slight roasted flavor that I enjoyed). The lobster was also good, but I tended to get one small piece of shell in each bite I took. We ended with a complementary jello-like dessert. Service ranged (some servers were mildly rude and others very courteous). I was also interested to see that all the non-Asian tables got a bowl of chips to start - being Chinese, we got no such thing. Overall, an okay Chinese place, but there are definitely better ones out there.

Good place for Dim Sum. The food is good - they have everything I like - shrimp dumpling, pork rib, beef rib, etc. There are about 15 types of dim sum, and about 5-6 types of dessert. Not too many for a big group of people who want to try different dishes, but enough for us. The price is reasonable - about $4-5 per dish on average. There is a parking lot, and good for people on Hundson county, so we don't need to drive so long to have dim sum. One more thing, if you like Durian, must try their Durian dessert. It's really good! I don't know about the exact name, but there is only one durian dessert.

Dim sum for lunch!

I've been here twice and the food has been quite good both times. I'd say the 2nd time was very good. The Dim sum is on point! Here's the yummy stuff I've had: Chicken feet Steamed roast pork bun Glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaf Pork spare rib Tripe Shui Mai (pork dumpling) Har Gow (shrimp dumpling) Beef over broad noodles Shrimp rice crepes Beef rice crepes

Weekend dim sum

FOOD | Decent selection of dim sum, serving common fare including a few specialties. Wu gok (taro + pork dumpling) and fu pei guen (stuffed bean curd roll) are personal favorites! Free tea service as with any other dim sum joint. My only issue is that food is sometimes served room temperature, but my last visit - all my food arrived to my table warm. ATMOSPHERE | It's clear that this place is past its heyday. Weekend dim sum lunch service now brings three or four tables at most. However, the lack of customers is to your benefit. Frankly, I enjoy the calmer, quieter feel compared to the typical dim sum service. China Chef is clean and pretty plush in an old school kind of way. SERVICE | Quick, as expected of any dim sum service. You can be in an out in less than 45 minutes for a full meal, but don't feel rushed. Servers are brusque, but no more so than any other Asian restaurant. Customers who call the service "rude" are usually those who are unfamiliar with the culture. PRICE | Dim sum totaled ~$40 for three people including some carryout items - more than fair. OVERALL | Serviceable dim sum when you don't want to make the trek to Chinatown. This is my childhood dim sum joint! The fact that I've been coming back for ~20 years should say something.

The food wasn't bad, actually quite tasty but I guess my taste buds are used to the more unhealthy, "fake" American Chinese food. Moreover, the server was nice but it was evident her English was a bit lacking so when I asked for a lychee martini, she kept pointing to martini but didn't know what I meant by lychee (so I went for a cosmo instead no biggie). The food came out pretty fast once ordered but any questions we had about the dishes were answered rather ambiguously and when we wanted some chili oil/more napkins we had to kind of hunt the server down. And it was weird because the restaurant really wasn't that busy on a Sunday afternoon. So, overall I still enjoyed my birthday (would've been nice to kinda get called on it especially since the server "checked" my ID but again maybe she didn't really look at it), and I don't think I'd rush to try this restaurant again. However, it's still worth at least a first try! The soup was my favorite dish, very herbal flavors. Heavy on lemongrass so if you're expecting something a bit less fragrant like pho or ramen you probably wouldn't like the soup here.

The cashier seemed entirely confused about the concept of a lunch special and the other employee said it had to do with the town itself. I don't know how the bureaucracy of Secaucus works, but I don't see how they could block offering a bowl with one side and one entree. They also didn't have a menu board, just the paper fold out which I don't find as effective, especially if there is a line. I did get pork soup dumplings to stay, and there are a lot of tables with a nice ambience so dine in is a good option. The parking can be a little tricky given the number of businesses in the plaza, but it wasn't bad. The dumplings were good and pretty filling. They were a good price, as were most of the dishes and the signs saying no tip needed made me respect the business more. It's a decent option for the area, but I'd prefer to return if they have their lunch special available again.

Tofu and Fish hotpot: Fried white fish, fried tofu, string beans, bell peppers in a sauce that is probably reduced chicken stock. I'm biased since it's one of my favorite chinese dishes. I don't know when this specific dish is amazing, but I can tell you when it's bad. Green Lake's version is anything but bad. Shrimp Stuffed Tofu: We were given a sample since they were trying something new. The sauce is similar to the tofu hotpot but has a porkier feel because of the ground pork within the dish. The tofu is the same, but the way they fried it is different, so it took a step up. The shrimp was fine, and I think they should have this on their menu. Whole Fried Chicken: It's fine. Didn't love it. There's no batter to speak of at all, and you're reliant on the spicy sauce and ginger sauce provided. Stir Fried French Beans w/ Salted Fish: Crunchy French Beans, and very salty salted fish. Not my favorite, but it keeps things different. Hot prawn salad with broccoli: The broccoli was just boiled. Nothing to talk about. The pawn was fried and bathed in mayonnaise. What's not to like? Pork Chop: This is another Chinese restaurant staple. 85% of the chinese porkchops that you eat will taste the same. This one is no different. Hokkien Fried Rice: My chinese restaurant guilty pleasure. How else can you get a shrimp fried rice bathed in an umami sauce? The restaurant did a really good job with this and I'm glad that I asked if they had it (in chinese). Service: It was a slow night, so we had all the attention that our table needed. Ambiance: The location is big and can support small families to larger gatherings. They have a private area that fits 30+ people, so they look like the go-to spot for parties.

Be sure to ask about the ingredients if you don't want pork or meat in a dish. We've been here before and all other dishes were great...Chinese broccoli sautéed, dumplings with shrimp, eggplant with shrimp, sautéed wide noodles with some veggies, soup dumplings, etc. finally tried the mango dessert.
