We order food to-go from here often because we live so close. There are times that their food is 3-star and then there are nights that they hit it out of the park! Tonight the food is phenomenal! I knocked one star off because they're not consistent. But they're fast, affordable and very convenient. Returning tonight for soup! Delicious and hot! read more

Fresh, quick, extremely tasty, and made with care and very friendly service. Their dishes are fresh, have many organic and local ingredients, and you can truly taste the difference! Made with attention to detail, and a strong knowledge of quality Vegan and Vegetarian cuisine that has improved every year. As a long time customer of this establishment (14 years plus), and having experienced 3 different management teams, I can highly recommend them! read more

All I can say is " don't bother coming here !!" I ordered delivery(they were 30-40 mins before they close): 1 whole Peking duck, 1 chicken fried rice, sweet n sour fish, chicken pan fried noodles, garlic eggplant, chicken lettuce wrap & 3x order chicken lumpia (appetizer) total was $127+ I was a bit surprised about the total (my calculation was only $95 + tax & $4 delivery) & had asked for itemized charges and called them to make sure they send me the copy of the itemized prices, but NO !! It didn't come with it. The chicken pan fried didn't come with the sauce it supposed to come with, the sweet n sour fish box is not filled up & it can fit into a medium box even with the sauce already in it. I called the next day about these issues and the Chinese lady who answers their phone and took my orders the previous night was unpleasant: I mentioned these 3 issues & she kept defending that she did it right.. I told her I'll take a photo and can send it to her.. there was no sauce for the pan fried noodles (we couldn't eat it, it's so dry without the sauce), at first she insisted that there was some sauce but I said the sauce was for the sweet n sour fish, but I said there was none for the noodles & she said she'll refund me for that and then I continued with the other next 2 issues & she said she'll give me 20% discount and told me to NOT call her again !! I just hung up the phone.. so arrogant... WTF ! after charging me $127-$137 for those few dishes where it could have been a bit cheaper some where else.. The fact that it wasn't done right and now you'll tell me not to call you again !!?? It's a shame, I like some of the dishes I ordered... I guess I won't be doing business with them again !!She probably think that I'm from out of town 'cause I'm staying in one of the INN's. She has no idea that I'm a local... Next time just Go to City Chopstix instead, they are good with most of their dishes & good service... one of the best in town !! read more

To me china chef fulfills an element in my life that was missing for a while after I became vegan. The shear comfort I get from saucy americanized chinese food overpowers any need I have for a fancy sonoma county chinese dinner. If I'm craving some crazy amazing authentic Chinese food I'll take my jolly ass to the city but when I need a lunch special or a pick me up from a long week, this is the place I go. It may not be the most glamorous food but its always delicious and always hits the spot. Good food doesnt have to be complicated, in fact its better when its not. read more

Almost everything was cold and flavorless. The pork sauce was definitely not sweet and sour. The vegetable fried rice didn't have vegetables. The steamed pork bun was hard, stale, and bland. Even the tea was weak. Long story short, we have food poisoning. read more

Wonderful folks and food! Popped into this place on a whim and was so surprised. The staff is very caring and they take a lot of pride in their food, using quality ingredients. They use organic produce, filter your water, no MSG or artificial colorings. Very different than other Chinese restaurants I have tried in the area. They also have an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu and can make many gluten-free dishes. This is my new go-to restaurant. Highly recommend the Mongolian tofu and Broccoli with garlic sauce. read more

So I originally did not like this place for being really pushy about using a coupon. But someone actually reached out and apologized. Most places on yelp see the review and don't care. So I can say at least this place is trying to do better. That is nice. Despite not great reviews they are working on doing better so I am changing this to say that is more than most places do. read more

Food was what you expected it be - it was decent and acceptable, despite the order not being correct. However, note to customers: don't order online and proceed to use a coupon they promote. You'll be lectured by the owner about how expensive the online ordering is and how she won't make money if you're bringing in a coupon. If you want to use a coupon, order on the phone. She was nice to honor the coupon, but at the expense of the unhappy pen toss onto the counter. read more

We ordered several items through grubhub just because it was close and open. The crab wontons did not have a flock of crab...just straight cream cheese. The chicken chow mein was flavorless and dry with tiny pieces of dry chicken, really gross. The walnut shrimp looked like an infected hand injury from the civil war. Everything was gross...what a waste of sixty bucks. Needless to say we will never go back when visiting family. read more

This is a favourite local spot! Whenever we crave Chinese food this is our first go to, despite living 35 minutes away. The flavour profiles are good throughout the dishes we have tried, and the food isn't super greasy or overly saucey, like some American-Chinese dishes can get. Our "classic" order is house chow mein, beef fried rice, string beans with garlic, and then a rotating entree depending on mood (sometimes two because who doesn't love leftovers). The only complaint would be an inconsistency with the broccoli in garlic, sometimes it can be slightly bland and watery. However, there are SO many other wonderful dishes, including ones with broccoli, like beef and broccoli, that are plenty flavourful. If you are craving, or even mildly interested in, Chinese food you would be well served (pun intended) to stop here!! :D read more

Best house chow mein. Gyoza , orange chicken. And going to try the walnut shrimp next.

I wish I would have reviewed this place before I ordered. I am new to town and will NEVER order from this place again. Worst "Chinese food" (if you can call it that) I have ever had. What a waste of money. read more

I have been going to China Chef for a decade now, and I am always very happy with the delicious food and the quick service. They offer an organic, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan menu as well, which I have been more than happy with. I love the high quality, affordable dishes and this will always be one of my go to's. read more

My daughter is severe celiac and was assured everything we ordered was gluten free - pot stickers, wontons, and orange chicken. She got sick and threw up 7 times after so I dont believe the items were gluten free. When we called to tell her,she didnt offer a refund she just said it was probably the wontons that we werent accustomed to - she said she remembered telling us everything was gf and said again over the phone that it was. I dont believe it was, otherwise there wouldnt have been the severe reaction of throwing up after. read more

My sister is visiting town and wanted Chinese Food. I ordered via Doordash and one item needed to be adjusted so I called. The woman on the phone was very rude about the adjustment. After waiting almost an hour they canceled my order. I understand the frustration at the change on one item but to cancel after I called is a bit petty. Now my sister and I need to figure out something else after an hour of expecting our food. read more

CELIAC BEWARE: I have eaten here about 5 times because it's the only gluten free Chinese food place I've found. I've never been sick after eating here until yesterday. I ordered the gf potstickers and gf sweet and sour shrimp. 2 hours later I had to go to the emergency room. Something that was served was not gluten free. I was in the hospital for 5 hours with a horrible reaction. I will not be going back. If you have celiac disease I would ask you to be very careful. Update: it WASNT the soy sauce on the table. I know better. read more

Too many others have already bashed this place in detail, so I will try to keep it brief. I am not sure what's worse - the food, the service or the scary lack of kitchen cleanliness (bugs in my soup!) The best part of my lunch there today was that the woman was SO RUDE AND RIDICULOUS that I left after only 2 bites.... FYI lady, pepper doesn't have legs! Had she been a little nicer and/or offered me something different, I probably would have stayed, paid, and been sick to my stomach. Reading the other yelp reviews, albeit after the fact, I realize I am not the only one. STAY FAR FAR AWAY. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience here. My boyfriend and I ordered Mongolian beef and orange chicken with rice. There were some parts of the Mongolian beef the was cold. I bit into a couple chunks of hard rice. Their orange chicken was NOT fresh and there was NO flavor to it. Coming from a Chinese girl who was raised in a family that cooks Chinese food everyday, their food was clearly NOT fresh. Before our server seated us, I saw her walk over to the table that was going to be our table. It was already set up but I saw that she had to wipe it down once more. I should've listened to my gut feeling and walk out of that restaurant. Shouldn't every table be set up, clean, and ready for the next customer? And why set up the utensils when the tables aren't clean, if that's the case!!? read more

It seems the little city of Cotati continues to offer some great eating establishments - making up for the mediocrity expanse that is western Sonoma County. China Chef's vegetable chow fun is positively delicious; their walnut prawns dish is the best I've had north of the Golden Gate; but, the potstickers with the house sauce ranks up there with Yank Sing's very own. As a side note, the takeaway food surpasses the restaurant's dining room experience. read more

Everything was delicious. They use all organic vegetables and had plenty of gluten free options. Glad I tried this place despite the mixed reviews. Must be the new owner. read more

The place is very nicely decorated. Service is good. Now the food was horrible. Nothing was fresh!!! All of the meat especially the Dim sum was frozen! The Duck still had hair on it! Not acceptable! 1st and last time going there! read more

This is now becoming one of our regular stops for take out. We've dined in here several times, and either way the experiences have been great. Good service on the phone for taking orders, and they always pack the take out with everything you need. When we dine in the servers are always very nice, and everything is brought out expediently and never waiting on a refill. The food is also very flavorful and fresh, and definitely not run of the mill. We've been looking for another good place to get Chinese take-out near Rohnert Park, and this is our new regular call. read more

I ordered for delivery and was charged for all items ordered,HOWEVER they didn't deliver several items and when I called them they made it a "door dash" problem. Said they would handle a refund. That's not the point. THEN when I said I still wanted the items they said they would deliver them but NEVER DID!!! I have people here that need to be fed and now I have to WAIT FOR A REFUND to order something else and now everything else is closed. This restaurant STEALS YOUR MONEY!!! And doesn't care for the aftermath. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM. If I could they would get ZERO stars. It's disgusting that people are allowed to take advantage like this. read more

Food is amazing and they have a huge vegetarian and vegan menu which is a huge plus in my book. The biggest problem I have is that every time I either have them deliver or I order for pick up they ALWAYS miss a item or give our food away! I've had them delivery twice so far and they completely mixed up my food both times. The items still ended up being vegetarian so we just kept the food. When we did a pick up order they ended up giving our food away to someone else(sucks for them because they got our full vegan meal while their chicken sat and got cold). Had to wait another 20 mins so they could remake the food. read more

Disgusting food. I walked out with the kids while hubby paid the bill. Hot n sour soup was congealed and had no flavor. Pot stickers were greasy and spongy. Sesame chicken tastes bland, maybe old chicken, and looked slightly grey. Hubby said it vaguely tasted of soap to him YUCK! DO NOT EAT HERE!! on top of all If it service was poor, the heat was off in December and at least one platter was chipped and dirty. read more

Not authentic Chinese food. Very bland. Nothing to write home about. Obviously we won't be returning. :( read more

OK, so there's a couple items people don't like here. Sure, I get it, we all have an opinion but that doesn't mean the nice lady or place deserves one star. Let me tell you what is good here, everything I ordered today for delivery! I'm from Rohnert Park, and pass up China Village just for this place. They at least make their sweet and sour chicken right and not soggy like everywhere else. Best Walnut Prawn dish I have had. BEST crab wontons I have had! BEST Crispy beef I have had. Great curry chicken and rice, sweet and sour chicken, and BBQ pork buns! The lady who runs the place is very nice and courteous. THANK YOU! From your Tiger friend read more

We went during lunch hour and we were the only customers in sight the 30 minutes we were there. Customer service was weird, and the food was very questionable. I'm not even sure if I was served chicken and the veggie rolls tasted like I was consuming a burnt tire. The waitress had a major attitude problem and promised the chow Mein was filled with colorful veggies, instead we received a plate with 3 varieties of brown and yellow. Also the silverware was dirty and dusty. read more

Ordered chicken chow mein. Literally just noodles and chicken. When I called and asked if it was suppose to have veggies they said yes and i said mine had none. They said they could make me more but once I said I ordered it on door dash they refused to remake it and said I had to take it up with door dash. Door dash would not redeliver since I was out of the area. They only refunded me half of the money. I called and let them know and they still wouldn't remake it and said they would contact doordash to refund my money. read more

We called in our order Christmas day. I added my order up before I picked it up. Imagine my surprise when the total was approximately 30 percent higher. I asked for a receipt and was told I was paying holiday prices (the surprise showed on my face.) I had people at home waiting so I just paid the inflated price. After checking my order I realized I was "accidentally" shorted 2 items. When I got home and opened the containers half of them were only three quarters full! There was no mention of holiday prices when I picked up the menu several days earlier or when I called to order. Shady at best... read more

Ok. I've never eaten at this place under the new ownership but when it was called Happy Garden? Wow. "Let me tell you a story", Bobby Jindal style. I was having lunch there a long time ago, maybe 2001. We were waiting for our Mongolian Beef to arrive when BHAM, a large, mutant sized Cockroach scurried past my feet. I said, "oh sh!t, a f***ing cockroach!" When the owner of the place came by, I told him there is a cockroach right there next to the wall. Next thing he said was, "ohh...cockalaroach!" He quickly stepped on it, took a cloth napkin from the table nearby and picked up the dead thing and went along his way. Ever since this incident, I've never eaten here again. I hope the new owners have turned this place around. read more

I came here with my kids and it's super kid friendly AND vegan friendly. We ordered green onion pancakes, Mongolian tofu, orange tofu, and vegan fried rice. The food was delicious. We will be back soon to try more of the menu! (And I like that it's not fancy like a lot of Sonoma County restaurants... I wasn't worried at all about my little one misbehaving or spilling food on nice tablecloths.) read more

This place was a real dump when it was called Happy Garden. Under new owners (who are friendly), the food is reasonable albeit bland. They use too much oyster sauce in all their veggie dishes and lack creativity in their selections. But come on, who goes to a Chinese place to be impressed with ambiance and creativity. The strengths here are decent service, reasonable prices, good portions, and some decent selections. We go here when we are lazy and tired. read more

China Chef - Coconut Chicken Curry... - Chinese Near Me - Cotati, California

Best vegetarian Chinese in Rohnert Park/Cotati. They have good service and take out. Favorite dishes: Broccoli w/2 kinds of mushroom Mongolian Tofu (spicy!) Mu Shu Vegetables (juicy veggies) Orange chicken (perfect!) Chow Mien (Not too greasy) The veggies are fresh. They serve you tea and most of the vegetarian dishes are $6.95. They also offer brown rice. There's a lunch special where you get soup, rice(plain or fried) and choice of fried won tons or egg roll with your main dish. There open until 9:30 pm. UPDATE: It is no longer the Happy Garden :( They have changed owners and are now China Chef. The food was definitely different. The chow mien was dry and did not have many vegetables. The garlic sauce is, well, lame. Not garlicky enough. It is a very sad day. read more

A vegan-friendly Chinese restaurant! Delicious Chinese dishes with plenty of vegan options!

The food is always delicious and consistent. Customer service is always pleasant as well.

I came here on Christmas day since it was the only place nearby that was open. What a HUGE mistake. The food was so disgusting that it wasn't even edible. The potstickers looked and tasted like they were microwaved. They were cold and gooey and tasted like tuna fish!! The chow mein was dry and stale and had no flavour to it. What they considered brown rice looked like something that was flavoured in soy sauce and left outside overnight because it was so cold. We ran out of there as fast as we could and didn't even bother eating the rest of it. When they asked if we wanted to take the rest home, we screamed NO!! The service wasn't any better, and their "Holiday Menu" was a joke. They obviously had a different menu with higher prices. I wouldn't have minded if the food was actually good, but it was literally disgusting. This is Chinese done completely WRONG. read more
