I really enjoyed this place the first time I tried it, a little pricey but whenever I do get the chance I always come back. I love the fact that they have vegetarian friendly options and you can always substitute the meat with tofu. it's definitely a nice cute little place and I do recommend you try it out more than once. read more

I was craving some good panfried noodles from an authentic Chinese restaurant as opposed to Panda which is close to my house. The places that are close to me were closed due to the holiday so we ventured a little further out to China Chef. I ordered Mongolian beef it was very good I asked for level of five spice it was very mild. However, the noodles were like spaghetti with Chinese flavoring they were the worst noodles ever,worse than Panda express. I was very disappointed. The combination plate came with fried shrimp that tasted like they were fried twice they were very stale tasting. They didn't even offer my husband at pick up any Chinese mustard for them. This place and their food just didn't cut it for me, so i had to cut them ( off of my list of decent Chinese food). I really was expecting this place to be great, because of the really nice reviews and the number of stars that this place has been given. I got the sweet and sour pork combo plate with chow mein and what was supposed to be fried rice. Both the chow mein and fried rice were bland and lacked flavor. The fried rice wasn't even fried, it appeared and tasted like it was just white rice covered with soy sauce; and the chow mein were just these fat, oversized noodles with a few pieces of cabbage tossed in soy sauce, no authenticity in the the flavor what so ever, Panda Express' chow mein tastes better in my opinion. I did order my food to go, from the time I placed the order until I picked it up was 10 min. not bad on wait time, so by the time I got home my sweet and sour pork was soggy (could be due to condensation), but the taste itself was not satisfying, lots of fatty parts on each piece of pork and it basically was like eating fat, covered in sweet red sauce, nothing flavorful about it. I paid $10.80 for this combo plate, and couldn't even continue to eat, prices are good, but i guess you get what you pay for! Parking was okay in the area. I was pretty happy with the amount of food you get for about $10. Ended up ordering 3 plates for some for workers and myself. My friends bought me to-go food from here yesterday. Here's the scoop -- it's not Luby, but the veggie options are the same fake meat. The Kung Po "Chicken" that Thomas made so well is definitely worth having here as well. I loved it! It's called Princess "Chicken" though. The Schezuan "Chicken" was delicious. Luby's Sweet & Sour "Chicken" was superior (loved the pineapple and peppers mixed in) but it's still really good here. My friends reported that the service was great and everything was really clean. Leaps and bounds ahead of Luby. If you order veggie food it takes longer but that's because they clean the grill AND change the oil to ensure the food actually is veggie. NO WAY was Thomas doing that for vegetarians, or lesbe honest, anyone! lol. I hope Luby does open up again (once Thomas shaves that beard off!) but for now, I am definitely happy to let fans of Luby know that this place is definitely worth trying. You can order from their website too (compared to Thomas who had me do a misc Google search for him almost every time I went in because he didn't know how to work the Internet, let alone have a website!...). Ordering online will make the wait for the veggie goodness not too bad at all. Luby fans definitely need to check this place out! read more

However, we did get our food to go so we did not get to interact too much at the restaurant. Pros: Very courteous waitress who offered water for us while we waited. We were told when ordered that the food would take 20-25 minutes. it came out right on time. Cost were very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Ordered the eggplant schezuan (sp?), Mongolian beef, kung po chicken, and pork chow mein. All were excellent. Love the number of hot level order. essentially, a 1 is not hot and a 5 is super hot. If you can handle heat, 3-4 is perfect. 5 is not really that hot that it is un-enjoyable but for newbees it is not recommended. Not greasy at all and everything was very fresh. read more

Hey guys this is not Lubys! I would like to comment about the food but after 45 min we didn't receive any so we left. I can comment on our experience from the time we walked in to the time we left. Hungry and pissed off. OK few things I understand that this was their grand opening day. but still come on! There were 3 couples waiting for to go orders one 8 person group and us and a few more people that came in after us. Had to wait 45 min for another table (who came in 10 min after us) to get their chicken salad and then the waiter to come back to us and ask how many wonton soups we wanted. You can tell that the chef was going in order and it looked and sounded like they were cooking one thing at a time and taking their time. Granted im not wanting "Panda" fast but, come on, Chinese restaurant's are not this slow. Lastly i didn't want to be in a episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" where the front of house was trying to tell the back of house which orders were togo orders and which ones were in house. GEEZ! We had delivery last week and everything was perfect. The courtesy of the person taking the order, the delivery person, the size of the portions, the prices and mostly the quality of the food were all quite special. So many Chinese buffets offer greasy food leaving a bloated feeling shortly after eating. Not so with China Chef. China Chef's food was so delicious and nicely prepared that we could hardly wait to eat the leftovers the next day. The portions are really plentiful. We had egg roll and barbecued pork as appetizers and bbq pork fried rice, mu shu shrimp and a gourmet selection they call, "Happy Family" that is to die for. I've missed Luby for years because of its vegetarian and fake meat menu (though the owner made customers uncomfortable). I just found out the other day from Lisa L's review that China Chef took over the location and continues making some of Luby's veggie and even fake meat dishes! I ordered a meal immediately (the online ordering is pretty cool). I love fake meats and I'm always stoked to find more Fresno places that offer it. The 'chicken' fried rice and szechwan 'chicken' were delicious. The Hong Sue tofu & veggies needed a little more flavor, but the tried tofu was good. The veg menu isn't as extensive as Luby, but they kept some of the favorites. I'm not sure if they do substitions like Luby did. OH and the best part: BIG portions! First time we ordered Chinese delivery food. Okay,first the food is good and they give you a bunch of food too enough for a whole family. But i gave it 3 stars because the lady who answered the phone was a bit a whatever attitude, she didn't give me how much it was going to be or how long. I ordered vegetable rice,beef broccoli,chicken rice and orange chicken. We round it off $35, when I signed the receipt it was $50! This is not a fancy place, more mom and pop. But food was really tasty. No grease, very clean, and good portions. Cost very reasonable. I am very fussy about cleanliness, and this place was spotless. I eat a lot of Asian food, especially in bay area, and I think the taste and quality here was as good as any I have eaten at there. I am very happy to have accidentally run across this restaurant. I've eaten here before and it was good. Unfortunately, I can't say that tonite. For my sister's birthday, she wanted Chinese food delivered. Ordered the broccoli beef plate and egg roll with fried rice & pork chow mein. It arrived timely, no problems with delivery. There was an overwhelming seafood smell from the bag. Opened her broccoli beef & the seafood smell was VERY strong. The food overall was greasy. Just know "fried rice" is EXACTLY that. Nothing else. No veggies. No egg. Just rice. I called back to give some feedback since my sister's dish specifically was inedible. The girl was nice but wasn't aware of any seafood in preparing the beef. She spoke to someone in the kitchen and confirmed oyster sauce was used, which is typical. I let her know it was ruined and she said sorry. That was it. I guess I expected her to offer to remake it or a refund at least a part of the charge. Or something to make me a return customer. I won't be ordering here again. It's too bad. I had to find something else for us to eat on my sister's birthday. read more
