The China Buffet in Wentzville is a local favorite & a hidden gem. Right off I-70 at the Pearce Rd exit 208. It's at the end of a strip mall near QT & Steak&Shake. Family owned and operated for several years, the food is delicious! Previous owners were not so good. They have a full selection of hot & cold Chinese food along with fried chicken, various shrimp, frog legs, etc. Plus, fruit & desert dishes & ice cream. Freddy is usually the host with other family working various jobs. Oh, BTW, Freddy's dad continuously makes fresh sushi. Yes, they have a sushi bar included with the buffet! He makes several types of sushi, from traditional rolls to fancy creations. Also, not so heavy on the rice like some places! Definitely worth stopping for whether driving thru or live near by. Actually I'd give it the 2.5 overall rating. It's okay as far as Chinese buffets go anymore. It's hit or miss on how warm your food will be, some rather bland tasting items. I'll give credit on the hot and sour soup, though I put a packet of hot sauce in mine. The crab Rangoon was so-so, no sushi available when we were there at 1pm. No hibachi grill so can't do that here (thus the 2 and not 3 from me). If you're starving for Chinese and you're out in Wentzville area, it's an option. Unlike the Terminator though, I won't be baaack....YMMV. read more

Saturday mid-afternoon--still under lunch pricing--about a dozen of the buffet's 40-odd food pans were empty or mostly empty with the remnants of tired food. The buffet contained pretty standard Chinese menu items plus a few American selections such as pizza and fried chicken. Recipes were uninspired. Veggie lo mein, for example, had a few cabbage pieces mixed into the noodles. Selection was inconsistent: New food items were added just before our meal ended. Sushi also wasn't refreshed until the end of our meal so the selection was unappetizing leftovers. There was no salad but salad dressing bottles were out. Nearby, a half dozen pudding, dessert, and chopped fruit pans sat half empty. Bowls weren't next to the three soups but at another food bar. The floor was slippery, creating a serious fall hazard. Picked up dinner for the family from here and it was much better than expected! The dumplings were way overdone and the hot and sour soup wasn't great but everything else was fantastic. I highly recommend the pork mei fun, it was garlicky with tender noodles, delicious barbecue pork slices, and tangy green veggies. I'll be getting this exclusively going forward. Everyone else enjoyed their egg rolls, shrimp fried rice, and Szechuan chicken. Will certainly be back! read more

Took four of us to dinner here. It was Saturday evening about 6:30. This is a typical Chinese buffer. The beef broccoli and the fried shrimp were in the trays too long. The was almost empty and finally refilled as we left. The fried pork was pretty chewy. The pot stickers were hot and flavorful and had just come out. Two of us tried the sushi and said it was good. The banana pudding and jello were good. The price was reasonable and we left full. If you like buffets it will be fine. read more

I've come here a few times, and the service isn't good and the food is even worse. The food is always mid warm to cold, never hot. Normally veering near the cold side. I just came here today to give them another shot, sadly the chicken was gummy, lots of food missing, and overall not much to pick from. Food is extremely breaded and not much quality selection. I will say, it seemed like the sushi had been sitting out for a while. But it was fairly good. Went for diner food was scarce there were more empty trays then full. empty cold shrimp, empty frog leg, empty octopus, No sushi, was told crawfish would be out in 15 min over an hour later of waiting and they bring out half a pan and say there will be no more. Anything that was decent to eat we were told would not be refilled all that was there was vegetable dishes. This was not before closing this was at diner time 6pm. I watched several people walk around with empty plates because there was nothing left. over 2 hours before they close. For 91.00 I expect the food bar to stay stocked. The bathroom was gross. First and foremost this is "American" Chinese and if that's what you like this place is for you! My husband loves anything buffet so I unfortunately have been to many. I will say the food tasted better than most. I just have an issue with all the sugar added to "American" Chinese, personally I prefer real Chinese food. We went on a Saturday night around 7 pm and it was busy but food was stocked regularly. My husband thought the potatoes were the best he'd had at any buffet. I thought they were good but I don't know about the best. A few dishes were on the lukewarm to cold side although that tends to happen with buffets. There are several choices of dishes which is nice, however I don't understand why they have 2 bays with "desert" type dishes (cold bars) when there is only 4 why make half cold? And on the cold bars the pans used are super shallow so are empty after 1 or 2 people take some. Also flat scraper type utensils for puddings? Made it awkward to scoop up. Sushi bar was well stocked but neither of us eat sushi so I can't comment on taste or quality. The restaurant was clean for the most part. Buffet and seating areas were nice the women's bathroom floor however was soaked with water I couldn't decide if it was poor mopping skills or an overflowed toilet. I choose to go with mopping or I would have had to leave thinking I was standing in toilet overflow before I ate. The rest of the bathroom was clean. Pricing was reasonable. The grossest place I've ever been to. Everything from top to bottom is dirty and in need of repair. Food taste gross, old and luke warm. As I was spooning food onto my plate, a worker was pouring a coffee cup of water into each dish on the buffet, even the one I was currently digging food out of. My gut said, "leave now." Revisited today for lunch, service was great and friendly; I was reasonably happy with the food quality as well. Everything seemed hot and fresh. Something has changed for the better here! We have given this place a try once a year and every time we were very disappointed; however, this evening it was completely different! We came for the lunch buffet on a Saturday at 12:30. Kids picked, I didn't want to come based on some bad reviews I saw. It was actually really good! The pans were full of hot food. I love the service at China Buffet! Seems like a little hole in the wall place but it's anything but! Fantastic food, one of my favorites for some classic cheap Chinese. The interior of the restaurant has been redone beautifully, they always have fast and reliable service. This was a surprisingly decent buffet. The food was fresh, lots of variety. The service was excellent. They kept our used plates off our table and quickly refilled drinks. As time has gone by the quality of food is gotten worse and a lot of times over cooled or where it seems like it is sat out for hours.
