A great buffet value for the money. Everything was tasty and fresh with a good variety. I wanted to try a lot of items but was too full.

Opening in 1998, Paradise Chinese Buffet in Montebello is the original of the four Paradise brands…read morein the LA area. This location was recently named one of three LA area buffets in the top 150 in the country, based on Google reviews. I've been to a lot of buffets (Chinese and otherwise), and this was near the top, especially based on the price. We came about 30 minutes after its 11 am opening, and the place was already packed with a line waiting to get in. You pay first, getting water and soda cups at checkout (plates are plentiful near the buffet itself). Emmelyn was the check-in associate, and she was joyful and friendly, putting a smile on my wife's face after a stressful drive through LA traffic. We found out that my wife's lunch was free because it was her birthday. Lunch pricing is $15.19 (M-F), minus $1 for seniors and military. Refillable soda is $2.99. It's find your own seating, and we grabbed the first seats we could find. -- being super crowded meant the food was constantly being replenished and kept fresh. It also meant a lot of line (inadvertent) line cutting and careful, slow movements...need to be careful for sure. -- the taste of the food was good, mainly because most things were turning over quickly. However, the selection of dishes wasn't huge, and the soups didn't look too good. -- I focused on the sushi and was satisfied. They had different type simple rolls and nigiri, with soy sauce at each table. They also had a bottle of eel sauce to douse your rolls with more, if you want. Towards the end, discovered a New Zealand green mussel dish in a hot chili sauce, which I took full advantage of. -- the must get is the Mongolian Grill, which dominates the center of the restaurant. There were three types of sliced frozen meat (beef, chicken, pork), a variety of vegetables (including my favorite, baby corn), and various runny sauces that you pour on top when done. Once your bowl is complete, you need to give it to the operator. But here its a bit different: it operates on a unique system that I've only seen here. In the front counter, there are 20 spots where numbered pager sits. Once a person fills up a bowl with raw ingredients, they place it on the next available pager spot, taking the pager with them. Once the food is cooked, the pager goes off. You then exchange the bowl in your spot, with the pager...and the cycle continues. I asked myself what would happen if all 20 pagers were taken, and decided if that happened, you would have to wait since there would be no more space on the grill for your plate anyway. The system worked really well, with all three of us taking advantage of it. Taste wise, I've had better but certainly not for that price. And I just love the efficiency of it all. -- soft serve ice cream was available, and it was very thick and creamy (though a bit off in taste). My wife also mentioned that you can get cotton candy as well. -- Service was good, with an employee in a hostess outfit personally letting us know that she was there to assist us, including getting drinks. She did clear dishes when necessary, but also seemed to be supervising our section. What's interesting is that the same report mentioned King Buffet in Garden Grove, which now seems to be another branch of the Paradise chain. So need to be leery of such reports not being current...but in this case, following its suggestion paid off.

They have Teppanyaki with a buzzer when your food is ready. Although it was a little bland and we had to use lots of sauce. There is also an ice cream dispenser which was good. First, I want to thank the very thoughtful server Michael and the busboys he directed. Michael…read moredoes a truly great job, operating skillfully at the intersection of chill and attentive. In previous visits to this restaurant, I noticed other diners being offered coffee or tea as closing time approached, even receiving those hot beverages in "to go" cups since it was near closing. I've dined here about 5 times over the years, and I had never been offered a coffee or tea toward the end of dinner, and certainly not "to go." Seeing other diners with coffee and tea on my last visit, I asked my server at the end of the night, and I was told the hot beverage station was already closed for the night. Michael was the first to offer me coffee or tea, and I requested a "to go" cup, which he brought. Through dinner, he watched my Diet Coke and brought a refill even without my having to ask. The busboys replaced used silverware, which has also never happened for me here. They were quick to remove used dishes and seafood shell trays. I know these services seem basic, but I usually do not receive good service at buffets, so it's worth highlighting. Michael's service was by far the best, most personable, and most thoughtful service I've had at this restaurant. He is a real standout. This seafood buffet is unique in Los Angeles, as other hotel buffets closed in the COVID Era. I'm happy this one is still around to give a taste of a small-scale Vegas-style buffet. Yes, the price is really high, and the food is not perfect, but it's a buffet. You can't expect perfection at a buffet. Though the lobster was nowhere near as impressive as fresh lobster in Maine, it was fresher and less dried out than the lobster I've had at buffets in Vegas (Caesars Palace, Wynn). The crab was very good, and I also recommend the top notch mashed potatoes and very solid pork belly (there are two varieties) and prime rib. Also this buffet is a great place to get your fill of oysters on the half shell. Oddly, they've started closing down the ice cream station before dinner time is over on my last two visits. Given the high price, I don't think the food is good enough to come multiple times a year, but every once in a while, it's a fun experience, especially with a server like Michael. Cafe Sierra remains a reliable stop in LA, and I hope it continues to stick around.

We come here so often that each experience is always different…read more I do not have much complaints about the food, everything is the same as before. Most of the staff are friendly and a few might look grumpy, but we got the ones who were nice. We get our drinks occasionally refilled but that's usual at a buffet, you need to flag someone down if you don't catch them while they are cleaning up your plates. The downside for my latest visit isn't on the place itself, but due to a restroom incident and it's usually dirty every time I visit so I can't give it 5 stars until that's resolved. We were done eating and so I decided to use the restroom. After using the largest stall because all the others were taken, I didn't realize someone exploded near the back of the toilet. I only noticed when I got up that it was a huge MESS. I knew some of it got on my dress too so I had to call someone to help me grab something for me to change into because I cannot wear my dress after that disgusting interaction. After I changed, we went to the staff for a bag so I can throw my clothes away and I told the staff what happened. I am not sure if they understood me because they didn't respond in a way I thought they would. Luckily I didn't get it on any other clothes, I had to vigorously wash my arms though just in case. Other than that, love the snow crab legs, grilled galbi and pork steaks, and fried shrimp tempura.

We waited nearly 2 hours for this place and was so excited to go here because of social media and reviews.. oh no no no. It's true what they say - don't believe everything you see online. They have "sushi", "hibachi", and other "Asian" dishes. We tried a little bit of everything and we all ended up getting FOOD POISONING! DO NOT GO HERE.. don't say I didn't warn you. In addition, at dinner only, each person can order one lamb shank - just this piece of meat alone is worth your $28.99 visit. The restaurant food section is maintained very cleanly, food is beautifully displayed for a self-serve buffet restaurant. Plenty of seating area with ability to accommodate larger parties, and feels family friendly. The only shortcoming they have is that their fruit section tastes consistently unappealing, and some of the desserts don't tastes too great either. But at least their main dishes taste good. Regardless, this is a regular lunch spot frequented, and would bring friends over for dinner here, if they ever feel like Mediterranean.

To be fair, I went on a weekend, so I paid the highest price. I could see this place being a much better value during weekday lunch. The inside was very clean, which I appreciated. One thing that felt a little awkward was the service setup. There didn't really seem to be servers inside, and you pay when you leave, so I wasn't completely sure how much tip made sense. I noticed they even had a 10% tip option, so I'm guessing they know the setup can feel a little unclear. The food overall was clean and decent. It felt like they had pretty much everything you would expect from an American-style Mediterranean/Middle Eastern buffet. Nothing really stood out as especially amazing, but there was a good variety, and most of the food gave me that "this is probably healthy" feeling. I'd consider coming back if I were with friends who really like Mediterranean food.
