Amazing service! We had biked there and forgot the bike lock. My friends asked to bring the bikes inside so they would-not get stolen. They were very nice and considerate about it. Good hygiene changed the tongs of the food every 10-15 minutes. Along with waiting on tables very quickly. Very good food, lots of variety. For a pretty good price. What can I say....This is my first time reviewing China Buffet, but it's a good thing to review now so I can give a full perspective of my experiences. First, when I first started going to China Buffet in La Crosse, it was pretty good. The food was usually fresh and plenty to choose from. The staff was also friendly too. All of a sudden, things changed. Don't get me wrong, COVID changed a lot of people and a lot of businesses. This place started going down even before then. I gave this place many chances and went at different times to see if that made a difference. I'll explain what I mean by all of this. First, I noticed the staff isn't that friendly anymore. I used to think the host was super friendly, but Joe she isn't really friendly anymore and that makes me sad. The other guy in there who sometimes hosts isn't that friendly anymore either. I boil this all down to them being burnt out. They work everyday except Tuesdays when they are closed. Here's a problem....Of my theory of going in at different times, it was because the last 3 times my husband and I went, there were a couple of items that were constantly out, especially lo mein noodles. Every time after that, including our last visit yesterday, they were out of lo mein noodles. Our usual time to visit was after 4pm and they close at 9pm. We went yesterday at about 12:45, and they were low on EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING. You walk in, and you're expecting to get food that is full and hot, and then get disappointed because things aren't fresh, and they are low. Sometimes food will be stale and sit there forever. I watched the older woman who is like the mother or something, walk right past the sweet and sour sauce that had French fries floating in it, and she didn't even remove them. The food is always look warm at best, unless they freshly make a batch, and then it comes out. When they did finally start to bring out more items, it was one at a time every 20 minutes. Most of the stuff sat the way it was when we first got there! I couldn't believe it when J saw such depletion of items and the quality yesterday. I was appalled, and yet you're paying 10 bucks for lunch snd 14 for dinner? It's insane to me! I feel like they CAN'T maintain this restaurant, and it's because they offer too many times that they can't keep stocked and they don't have the staff to keep it up!!! Downsize your food!! Keep your "staple" foods out there everyday like lo mein noodles, beef and pepper steak, general tso's chicken, sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoon. You're doing too much, and it is literally KiLLING your business! On top of that, you have to worry about takeout too??? Either be a buffet with minimal items, or just be a take out only restaurant with specific items to choose from. You're hurting yourselves and it reflects in your attitudes as well! If you had the staple foods out there, you could alternate every other day with items that are not normally out there, or throw in an extra item or two on those alternate days. I've seen too many businesses do too much and they get in over their head. That's what happened to this place. The sign out front that flows at night has said "INA" instead of China Buffet for months and months, if not a year. Why isn't this fixed? Food was old and cold. Got several shrimp dishes. After seeing none of the shrimp were cleaned or deveined I called over the server and she said that was normal. That is not normal to not clean the shrimp, it totally turned me stomach and did not eat anything else. That has been my go to place for several years. No more I am done. read more

This place is pretty good if you are craving American Chinese food, I would actually give it closer to 3.5 stars. Even though it is a buffet they do offer carry out options as well. I've never been inside this establishment but did get the opportunity to try their food via take out. I decided to order their Kung Pao Chicken lunch special (without peanuts). The chicken was fried and then tossed in a spicy sauce with some vegetables. The sauce had a good amount of kick to it, but it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. The meal came with rice, a can of soda, and of course the standard fortune cookie. Their lunch specials in general run around $7.00, so pretty affordable, and portion sizes are generous. Pretty standard Americanized Chinese fare, and honestly the best in the area that I've tried (and I've tried a few). Have been going here for years and honestly prefer their buffet to any of the other "Chinese" places around here and would rather go there than get takeout from those places. Like any other buffet, when you go matters with regards to how often and how quickly food is replenished. I'm honestly confused about the people speaking poorly of the staff. I've been going to this same buffet for over a decade and never once had a bad experience with the staff. This was terrible I'm so sorry ... this is just not good at all ... all the meat dishes were over cooked With no seasonings ... the deserts were stale I'm sad .... so unsatisfying... and then they literally waited until most of the dishes were gone to bring out a new batch . Decent Chinese Buffet with a cornucopia of Americanized dishes. Smaller than a few that I've been to and missing crab legs and soft serve. Things they do well: Chicken dishes. Their General Tsos has actual meat in it; it's not just a large ball of fried breading that some places serve. Their unbreaded poultry was tasty as well. Their sushi doesn't contain fancy ingredients, but the rice is cooked exceptionally well. Things that need work: The chef was heavy handed with the salt content in their Fried rice; it was inedible, even mixed with veggies from other dishes in an attempt to dilute the salt. Crab Rangoons need crab in the mixture and need to be warm. The restaurant and serving area is clean. The employees are friendly and hard working. The place is really dark with only one small, covered window. Price was $9.50 for the weekend lunch (I assume this is the price for the weekday dinner) and a drink was a buck extra; pretty standard for the area and cheaper than other cities I've been to. Even though I didn't order a drink, they still charged me for one. When I pointed this error out, they corrected it, but hesitantly. Make sure to check your bill! Overall, a good place, but nothing exceptional. I've had better, but so far, this is the best Chinese Buffet in the La Crosse area. My wife wouldn't want to eat here, so it will be a place that I visit on my own when I have a craving and don't feel like cooking. I have been to many buffets across the country, and the quality in majority of them simply do not compare to the superior quality and taste they have at China Buffet. Staff is friendly, the restaurant has great ambiance and the price cant be beat. When i visit from New York City coming on business to Lacrosse WI this is my go to place for lunch with the co-workers. Should definitely give this place a go. Ok so, China Buffet is TERRIBLE!!! DO NOT EAT THERE!!!! The sodas Suck, the food is old, and Service is terrible. Me and my friend went there for my birthday and I was eating the orange chicken and noticed green stuff in it. then when I asked for a lemonade they gave me orange juice and told me they don't have "American Lemonade" DISGUSTING! Took my nephew there for his birthday lunch at his request. Took him home afterwards stomach ill and very disappointed. He rated the place a 4.5 when he was 8. He's 14 now and his new rating is a 2.5. He even said things tasted probably even worse than animal food! No joke! All of our food tasted and felt like it was the prevoius nights over-fried left-overs. Awful. Our sodas were watered down to the point where there was almost no carbonation. Maybe a way to save money but it doesn't make customers happy. The main chinese buffet staples were ok like general tso and egg drop soup. Other than that the attempts at other dishes were dissapointing. Think they used yellow food coloring as it was not fried and pretty much yellow rice with a few peas in it. Disgusting. Ordered a simple chicken chow mein and waited forever. The chicken looked like it had been frozen and they sliced it off and then stir fried it. Couldn't tell it was chicken, pretty much mystery meat for flavor. I will never go here again. Not "A-OK". I've had better. My parents have been coming here for years and therefore so have I but less and less often. The menu is as tired as some of the people working there. They need to add some new items. The food is often not warm enough. They used to serve crab legs but no longer do. They used to have some of the best chicken wings in town but started serving drumsticks instead. They don't serve egg drop soup often enough. Their dessert bar really needs refreshing. It's boring. All of the baked goods/pastries taste like they were frozen and thawed out - not fresh. They always serve the same flavor of double jello. I could go on. One thing I like are the breaded shrimp but sometimes they substitute a cheaper, inferior variety. Here's a thought: Why not introduce some authentic dishes instead of all of the mediocre Americanized pseudo-Chinese cuisine? They could learn something from the other Chinese buffet in La Crosse - "Super Buffet". It's much better and you get more for your money. read more
