My husband and I have gone to China 1 for years, no issues. Until we tried using a coupon, that they gave us with our last order. They told us the coupon expired, not true, because the coupon expired 30 days after our last order. It had not been 30 days. We used the coupons twice with the same excuse both times. I always order Sesame Chicken, NOT SPICY, every time, with no issues, UNTIL we used the coupons. Then my food was so spicy, BOTH TIMES, I couldn't eat it without milk. It's a shame because we liked their food. This happened in the Fall and we haven't been back since. I don't think honoring a coupon, they gave us on their menu, is too much to ask. China 1 is my go to for Chinese locally, excellent food, quick service and great service, I've become addicted to the Broccoli & rice, the broccoli is done to perfection served piping hot and the shrimp are pretty good sized and to die for! As far as I'm concerned it is the best Chinese Takeout in town, on occasion we have eaten in their dining room, it's not luxurious but does the trick, it's really all about the food! Online order was by Eat Street- no pics and it appears some items had a mark up from the China 1 menu. 2. Food arrived at 1:52 pm piping hot, great delivery guy with a smile. 3. Food was good, very good. It was overpriced with the Eat Street prices and delivery fee. Good food but with delivery you are going to pay for it. UPDATE: Chicken bone in the egg foo young. The stars are for the service. The girl behind the counter was sweet enough. Although she did not tell of upcharges for fried rice over the white rice until I asked. The food was hot and fast. The food taste would get zero stars. was the worst I have ever had in my 60 plus years and I have eaten Chinese food in many places and many states and take out many times a year. The crab ragoons were the best of the meal and other than those, not much of it was eaten. General tso is not suppose to be so sweet and it needs a bit of heat, which there was none. It tasted like the main components was honey and vinegar and no other seasons or flavor. The other tuff also had a tang that was awful. Not a problem of never going there again because I don't get to that part of the state often. But if I do, I will avoid like the plague. read more

This is primarily a take out and delivery place. There are about 9 tables inside. They have also started a tiny *buffett*. I had a lunch special to go. The lunch specials include an entree, soup or egg roll, and pork fried rice. The egg drop soup is a little too thick for my taste. For reference, the soup was able to form soft peaks. The fried rice was more of a seasoned rice. It's darker, almost orange in color. My serving did not have any veggies or egg, just a few strips of the pork. I chose Kung Pao Chicken as my entree. This is my go to order for any Chinese restaurant I visit for the first time. It was ok. Way too many broccoli stalks, like 30 pieces beyond too many. They were chopped in cubes, but all crunchy, hard pieces of stalk. I would also have preferred the dish to be spicier. The portions are good for a lunch that cost only $6.14 with tax. read more

I do not often get the urge for Chinese takeout food, which I consider a good thing health wise. There are your higher end joints like PF's out there of course, but just about every town in America has a few local places that all have nearly identical menus and/or buffets to fill the American appetite for copious amounts of cholesterol, nitrates, and MSG. They operate under the guise of being "ethnic", and the other popular descriptor "authentic". Sure, these places are "authentic" I suppose, but only in the same fashion that a pack of 10 cent Ramen noodles is. China 1 is probably about like any other such establishment you have ever ordered from in your life, with a dip in quality from the norm. The food I ordered from here online via eatstreet was delivered in record time (about 20 min). Considering they are located across town from me, that should give you some idea as to the amount of preparation that goes into the food. The food arrived scalding hot, which was nice, but it had also obviously been under a warmer, as they likely just grabbed items off their buffet, threw it in a box and sent it to my place. Everything I sampled was almost entirely devoid of any discernible flavor, save the tub of maple syrup consistency sweet and sour sauce, and was about as unsatisfying as it gets. I do not know about you guys, but if I am willing to splurge and eat some food that is completely awful for me, I want to have some big payoff in the form of taste. There is none to be found here. Got a delivery via EATSTREET and it gave me a time frame of 45-60 mins. It got to me 40 mins after I got it. The food was great and was still warm when it got to me! Also, the portions are humongous for a really good price! The fried rice was okay, the chicken looked sort of weird, not sure why or it did look like it was coated with eggs? But the lo mein was great as well as the beef with mushroom! This was my first time getting a delivery from here AND first time eating at this place. Fantastic meal tonight. China One is one of those places that looks kinda lackluster from the outside, but the food is WAY better than you would think. The pork fried rice I ordered tonight was the best I've ever had, and I've traveled quite a bit. It was properly dried and seasoned(a lot of places don't dry the rice overnight which makes it more authentic and much tastier), loaded with tender pork and bean sprouts. It had a really distinct wok flavor that made it extremely moreish. The fried dumplings were really good too, you could taste the ginger, garlic and other seasonings on the meat inside. Per a friend and 4 awards on the wall, this place is the best Chinese in Oshkosh -- and that scares me a little. They use EatStreet for online ordering, so that was a quick and easy process (though apparently they automatically add the tip if you opt for delivery...not cool, guys), and it quoted me a whopping 15 minutes til my order would be ready for carryout. FYI, folks are correct in describing this place as a dump. I would never in a million years actually eat here, but the open kitchen was hopping and the delivery guy was loading up to go on a run. Once home, the food was all piping hot, but sadly disappointing. The steamed dumplings were nothing special, the crab rangoon had barely a trace of crab stick in it, and the fried wrappers were sorely lacking seasoning -- did you know that plain wontons taste like exactly nothing? The boyfriend's spicy triple delight had zero spice (even I could barely taste anything, and I have ZERO spice tolerance), and my sesame chicken...oh god. I have been getting take out from China One since 2008. Lately the food has not been as good as in the past. The prices keep going up, as everywhere else. The portions seem to be getting smaller too. BUT my last order was the straw that broke this camels back. The 'quart' of fried rice was really only 3 cups. I thought the container looked smaller than in the past, so checked when the carton was empty, and only measured 3 cups. Shame on you China One. Great American-style Chinese food. Everything is run-of-the-mill, though it's all been notably fresh each time I've ordered. Very important for things that are deep-fried especially. Spring rolls are strangely very small, though priced as regular. The best thing about this location are the sugared doughnuts. They actually come hot! They are friendly and courteous and have everything prepared so quickly! We are thankful to live within walking distance and are happy to have found our Chinese takeout "place"! The greeters are super friendly when you walk in. The other reviews that show styrofoam containers must be for the other China 1 in a nearby town as this China 1 has never served in those at least in the quite long time I've ordered from them. In general pretty quick & consistent. Vegetable dishes are tasty. Spice warnings are usually unwarranted as even with requests, the marked dishes don't produce too much heat. My first try of tofu was positive here. The Ma Po Tofu is spicy & soft & the Bean Curd is a fried tofu that's an interesting protein alternative to the usual meats. The small size boneless bbq ribs in the appetizer section is a filling meal all it's own but good for sharing. Delivery area is large & they usually arrive early. Some of the online websites/apps auto calculate a suggested tip, its not mandatory & isn't forced by the restaurants they handle. It's just easy to overlook. I can't remember the difference of some dishes so I'm going to just add the pictures for reference. read more
