This place rocks! You can make virtually any mix of meat, noodles, and vegetables, along with so many different sauces - create whatever you want! There are so many choices here that new diners cause a line back-up because they can't decide, lol. I can make a better Pad Thai here than 90% of the restaurants that I've been to. As someone that both travels a lot and eats a lot, I was so impressed with HuHot. We went in with a group of five on a Friday for dinner. I loved that HuHot was both at the right price point for everyone in the group and it met all preferences and pickiness levels. For $17 at dinner, you're let loose to what functions like a salad bar, but it stocked full of noodles, rice, meats, veggies, etc. You grab a bowl at the start and pile in everything that sounds good. You then slide over to the sauce bar and ladle in your choices. Here they do have some "recipes" for combinations of sauces for anyone that needs support choosing. From here you move into a circular grill area where your bowl of food is grilled on the flat top, like you'd see at hibachi or teppanyaki, and then scooped onto a plate and handed off to you piping hot. Part of your enjoyment here is definitely on your own curation of your plate. I love that you can make as many plates of food as you'd like, so you can have a little bit of everything you're craving. I've never experienced a place quite like HuHot and honestly I've been thinking about it since I left. This will definitely be a stop I look forward to any time I'm in town. In Oshkosh, you pay first, then eat. Appleton, it's the opposite. We waited behind a few people, to order and pay. Arriving at 5:50P, and wanted the 2 for $25 deal ( there were 4 of us). Was it a big deal to pay full price, no, but now its the principle! Màde it to the counter at 6:02P and was told that special ended at 6P, and they were unable to overide their system. Wasn't sure what to think about this place as I've hear a lot of positive things about it. I wasn't sure how to put the ingredients Together so my first attempt was not very palatable. Black beans didn't mix well in the Asian dish and the second attempt at pad Thai had me pull out my phone and look up a recipe to try to make it better, unfortunately it also fell short in flavor and substance. Did like the gloves and sign to use, but many patrons didn't use them. Ok I've been to several of these locations due to my job and travel. This one I can't believe. They have shrimp available for the dinner period. Almost all of the shrimp offered were not deveined. Do people not realize that is intestine and feces in there. The ones that "were" had some left in the end of the tail. Also they have you pay for your meal when you're done in and expect you to tip at that time. You get your own drinks and food and I bet if they had a place to drop you dirty plates they would have that as well. Guys on the grill were good hostess was very curt almost annoyed and not very sociable. There were 7 people in the place at the time. The cooks are not very good, the pour the bowl of food on the grill leave it. There is no stirring it the food at all, only once to turn it over like a burger. Yikes I don't know about this one guys. I have been to a few "you pick, we fry" asian-inspired resturaunts like this, but I think this one was a little too uninspired. The ingredient buffet was a mess from the local clients, moreso than I've ever seen at any buffet. Come on Oshkosh, you can do better with basic hygene. What you gather is slopped onto a grill by somewhat uninspired cooks. Definitely not wok style cooking, but maybe thats the plan with the grill thing in the name? Reminded me of when I would stand there and slowly fry hamburger for a pizza place. No steam, no sizzle, no smoke. Should that be happening with such a large iron grill? Food came out similar to reheated chinese takeout. Not a lot of wok style frying or crisping, browning etc. Also no fresh ginger, but is that just not a thing with mongolian style grill I dont know. Covid requires everyone to use gloves when grabbing ingredients, which is great! But you get to the end of the cook line and are greeted by an overflowing wastebin of discarded dirty gloves, one on the floor. Reminded me of my janitorial days. Just what you wanna see before chowing down on soggy lo-mein right? Pay the cooks more or simething, turn the heat up, add chopped ginger and yellow onions, hot peppers. I can't say it any better than a previous poster who said, "if it sucks, it's your fault." In general I totally agree with this sentiment. Because this is a modified buffet-you fill a bowl with ingredients and sauces and they cook it in front of you-you get to choose only those ingredients that you want. When it comes to sauces, you can mix and match as you choose, but if you are unfamiliar with these sauces they have "recipes" listed that allow to recreate some of the more popular flavors/dishes. They also have "recipe" cards if you want to try and go for a specific type of entree. Yes, the buffet area can get rather messy as people try to get as much into 1 bowl as they can. The meats are of decent-not great-quality and are thinly sliced to cook quickly on the large flattop they use for cooking. You can go back as often as you wish so I tend to make rather small dishes and go up multiple times so I can make a few different creations. This place does what it does well, but I can only give it 3 stars as they really aren't doing much more than prepping the food items and cooking your creations. That doesn't mean that I don't like it, because I do. I just don't think they are on par with 4 & 5 star restaurants, but that's okay. Not every place has to be great. read more

Granted, we could fill (overfill) the bowl if we wanted, but the carryout bowls are shaped in a way that doing so is difficult. It was very disheartening and a terrible way to start our dining experience. She had not only giving me a dirty look, but continued her poor attitude as she seated my boyfriend and I. I lost out on my free meal because my waiter didn't ask for my rewards. I even wrote it on my bill, and he apparently ignored it once he ran my card.
