Needed a late night eat at Roosevelt Island and its unfortunate because this is one of the only places available. Just a note, they really only accept cash (there's an ATM in-store). If you do decide to order online because you forgot cash, it's around 30-40% more expensive. - Wonton Soup - The soup itself was fine, very reminiscent of what wonton soup is Hong Kong would tastes like, but the wontons were not it. They were more like dumplings than anything else with a very thick wrapper and barely any filling on the inside. Typically wontons are in a clear wrapper, so I'm not sure about this one. - Pepper Steak with Onion - I'm glad that they give you a whole dish full of steak, peppers, and onions with rice on the side but it was honestly not great. The vegetables didn't have a lot of flavor and neither did the steak. Overall, not sure if I would come back here again but I guess if this is my only choice on Roosevelt Island for a midnight snack, what can you do? read more

It seems like it is really hard to find good Chinese food in New York City these days...even from the hole in the wall spots. When you go to NYC Chinese food spots, you're not expecting Michelin star quality or the most sanitary conditions, but the quality of the food is declining. Fried rice is yellow, when typically one would expect it to be soy sauced base, therefore it would be more brown in color. Breaded chicken dishes like Sesame Chicken and General Tso are mostly breading, with no chicken really to be found. General Tso is often listed as spicy, but no spice or peppers can be detected. Just disappointing all around. Is this the price of gentrification? The westernizing of literally all of the dishes? Recently reordered a few dishes after taking a year plus long break from ordering. Aside from not being the healthiest option, I just felt like the food wasn't hitting like it should. I can tell that they must have changed cooks since that time. I used to get the Honey Fried Chicken Wings (fried hard to keep crispy) and what arrived was disgusting and inedible. The chicken was covered in this gel like substance that wasn't even sweet. The fried rice also didn't taste fresh, some grains having a bit of bite to them. Roast pork egg roll void of any real roast pork. I also ordered 2 other dishes because often times, I am pretty sure something is going to suck and I want to have a back up option. Those entrees were general tso and spare ribs, both of which were underwhelming and were not finished. While the ribs were charred nicely, the marinade on them wasn't quite right. The total cost of these three dishes were $50+, which is a bit unheard of for Chinese food of this quality. The delivery is fast and the gentleman who delivers is very kind, but between the poor food quality and the crazy fees from ordering through the platforms, I find it an easy pass. read more

This is my number 1 go to for chinese food In Roosevelt Island. And only place lol. They know how to make my favorite dish, shrimp, egg foo young . Not every place can make it, but this place knows what they're doing. It's always light and airy and taste perfect. The prices have gone up since the pandemic but it's still pretty affordable. Broccoli bean curd and general tso's tofu are both amazing. Frist of all the service is not it, the lady at the front was so rude and gave attitude to a customer just because the person couldn't really speak english that good but they try to show them there own menu so they were trying to communicate I mean it takes some time for people however the lady just couldn't be patient enough or help but what she could do is tell the customer that "it's America speak English". Besides that the food was okay it's not that great it's pretty small the chicken wings and burnt and the egg roll is not crunchy or good unless you put some sauce. I can't speak for every dish on the menu as there are 100s but I do not understand any rating below a 4 I've ordered beef broccoli, hot and sour soup, and the duck rice. Ordered from here 4 times and the foods fantastic. I've even brought friends over who tried the hunan beef and had a blast. Beef is tender and broccoli cooked just right with some crunch. Don't get me going off on the gravy too. To be bluntly honest, I am Chinese and appreciate authentic Chinese food but in terms of American Chinese food, this place deserves 5 star. The service was extremely meeting my satisfaction , the portion that you get are pretty good and worth getting it. 5 stars for their General Tso's chicken. It's one of the best I've had. Steamed dumplings and their dumpling sauce is good. Other stuff like chicken and broccoli and lo mein are okay. You get huge portions for not very much money. Buy more than $10 worth, you get a free can of soda (Let me get a grape Welch's!). They also offer brown rice instead of white rice. I have been eating from here for the past five years. I would have given this place five stars. However, yesterday was the first time a severe problem arose. At this moment, this eatery is the only Chinese style place serving American-Chinese food on the Roosevelt island. The majority of Chinese people are choosing this place as their dinning place for lunch and dinner. The price is awesome. Look at my attached photo. All together (Mushroom beef + Steamed Rice + Wonton Soup) only cost less than $10 and you definitely can have your stomach full. However, the Beef mushroom is a little bland. I guess they forgot to ask me if I need soy sauce. Very tiny in area and not suitable for hosting parties. AC is not quite strong so I recommend to go in a sweltering summer day. Service is friendly. This place is amazing, living on Roosevelt Island a lot of the times the selection is limited. So, to have a place close and cheap is great. Every time I order they always are respectful, and they always get the order correct and sometimes even come earlier than expected. The only issue I have with the place is that they do not accept credit/debit cards. If they did that would be perfect. When it's over 80 degrees out, it's not comfortable being in a restaurant with no AC. I came here on a humid Friday afternoon and it was like walking into a steam room. I got the Chicken & Broccoli with regular fried rice and a shrimp roll. The chicken & broccoli had no flavor whatsoever, and desperately needed some salt. The shrimp roll was actually just a regular roll stuffed with cabbage and, get this, a little pork on the bottom! That is not okay. If I'm giving you my order, I would expect to get what I asked for, not something that I do not eat. Customer service is sub-par, which seems to be the usual case with Chinese restaurants - I suppose to be fair, since this is the only Chinese restaurant in Roosevelt Island, that they can give crappy service and still get the same customers. read more
