If you're going to order the steak, do not. They don't even tell you on the fact that you only get 8oz of steaks for 15 dollars and everything else is just onions and green peppers. Workers were also rude. I do not recommend being here at all. Everything is super bad quality and when we got there, there were crumbs on all tables and overall restaurant was just really messy. I have gotten take out here many times over the years. I don't know what happened, but I was sick as a dog 15 minutes after my lunch. gack. I ordered boneless spare ribs (I think those were the poison) and vegetable fried rice. Honestly this review is BEFORE trying the food. Entered the restaurant around 8:20pm and right from the beginning it was a very unwelcoming environment. The guy working the register was extremely rude. I'm from out of town so I asked a few questions in regards to the menu. Each response was short. I grew up in NJ and Chinese food was one of the local staples, believe it or not. My husband is also from NJ and we look for "Jersey-style" Chinese all the time. China 1 is ALMOST there with a big menu, GREAT eggrolls, and Hot and Sour soup that is both that; hot and sour! Sadly, even though their eggrolls are good, they aren't filled with the yummy bbq pork as my childhood memory eggrolls had. Regardless, their portions are large, the food is fresh and the ingredients are high in quality. One of my favorite dishes is far from traditional...bourbon chicken. It's made with the thigh and is in a sweet/salty brown sauce that leaves you wanting more and more. My husband is a fan of their fried rice, and always gets the combination. Another thing I love about them is you can ask for substitutions and they never complain and always give you what you want. They offer delivery, dine-in, and takeout. On Friday, August 4th, 2023, I ordered the Chef's Special, S9. Szechuan Shrimp. I only eat seafood on Fridays, because I'm Roman Catholic, and this dish was incredibly delicious! I've never tried it before. It was so yummy and perfect. It has a delicious sauce and seasoning and all the vegetables were my favorites and the shrimp were so plump and big and fresh and delicious! I had plenty of leftovers for another meal, too. It was served with white rice, and a fortune cookie. What I love about China 1 is you can get any extra sauces in packets that you want, they have a wide variety of sauce packets, too, and more fortune cookies, and utensils. They have chopsticks, too, which I love and they always include some sauce packets and utensils in your bag when you order food to go or to be picked up. I also love their white rice because it's cooked perfectly right, unlike another place I tried that had watery rice and still another place burnt their rice, but you'll never encounter this issue or problem at China 1. Their food is always perfect. I also got a Zephyrhills 100% natural spring water bottle and a can of Canada Dry ginger ale soda. They have a fantastic choice of different beverages. The host is so cordial and friendly. I love the chefs and cooks and the wonderful host. Look no further for perfect Chinese food. Their Shrimp Lo Mein is so delicious, too! I give them 5-stars, for a perfect 10 meal. You can't get better than perfect. They do Chinese food, right! I will only buy it here. If I ever move away I will miss this restaurant so much. The food was cooked well just lacked flavor. The cheese wontons were great! The generals Tso chicken was very bland and didn't have the flavor I was expecting. Though you can't get substitutions or omissions from dishes; you get them as referenced on the menu only. I give it 5 stars. Have been in Destin about 25 days and have ate at China #1 3 times. Pork lo-mein and everytime it was delicious and the quantity of food was adequate for the cost. Reheats perfectly in a microwave after two and a half minutes. I give it a few splashes of Frank's Red Hot. If we come back to Destin, I will definitely be eating here again. read more

I am a huge Chinese food fan and this place so far has the best food. Panda Express if usually my go to being the easiest but if I lived in Florida I would kick Panda Express to the curb for this restaurant the orange chicken was so good the sauce on it was chick and coated the chicken well. I'm eating the steamed dumplings right now for breakfast and heated on the stove they taste just as good as they did last night. The service/delivery was very friendly. We ordered the Mongolian chicken, kung pao chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. White and fried rice. Sweet and sour chicken was decent. Kung pao chicken was good. The Mongolian chicken was terrible. 80% of the container was onions. The chicken was chewy and the visual presentation was off putting. The fried rice was yellow. My boyfriend and I ordered some take out on our vacation. We had the beef with mixed vegetable and a vegetable fried rice. Both dishes were pretty good and this is probably a safe bet for Chinese takeout in Destin, judging from the reviews of some of the other Chinese restaurants. Also, here's a rare compliment coming from me: I am a fan of their fluffy steamed white rice that comes with the meal! Ordered beef low mein and more than half of the container was filled with a yellow rice, I wouldn't even called that fired rice. Noodle was soggy, the tiny amount of what was supposed to be beef tasted strangely like pork. Greasy and tasteless. My first and last time here. read more

Please realize this restaurant has new owner. He has changed everything. The food is completely different. The recipes are different. The food is low quality. The prices have gone up by several dollars per serving. Last two visits I could not even eat the food - it went in the trash, Please be warned and do not waste your time or money. Example: Sweet n Sour Chicken pieces are very small and dry. Fried rice is no longer soft with onion and veggie bits added - it is just plain sticky tasteless fried rice. Even the sweet n sour sauce is watered down soooooo thin. Waste of money!!!!! read more

My wife had the shrimp with vegetables and it was good. I had the Thai supposedly curry chicken it was horrible ... chicken fatty and lukewarm with barely a faint taste of curry and absolutely no coconut milk. Bottom line - they don't know how to cook Thai - don't order it. read more

This was my first and last time coming here. The place is very dirty but what Chinese restaurant isn't. I ordered a large beef and broccoli, spring rolls, and egg rolls. The beef and broccoli was nothing more than bland and disgusting. Spring rolls were so small,Ike they were a finger food. The only thing that was delicious were the egg rolls. Been going there for years as it is close to my job. Great food. I have never ordered anything I did not like. Be sure to ask for the hot oil as it really has the spice. Even their wings are yummy! 8/17/24 and 6/20/25 Update:…read more This place is super under-rated. This is the 2nd and 3rd time that I have been here. This spot is located by Fort Walton Beach/Mary Esther. Parking lot is huge and they also have rear parking for trailer parking. I came here on a Saturday night and Friday night around 6:30p and surprisingly the crowd was light both nights. This place is great! The crawfish is huge, fresh, and tasty. We had maybe 4 plates. They also give you a nice big bowl to place the crawfish shells into. The selection here is big and the made to cook hibachi is very tasty. They have different selections that your typical Chinese buffet doesn't have. I enjoyed the stuffed jalapeño, mussels, and coconut shrimp here. The sushi wasn't too tasty as it was old and hard. The food is fresh and yet I just don't understand the horrible reviews and low stars. This place is definitely a 3.5 to 4 star place. Comparing to all the low budget Chinese buffets that I have ever been to, this place is in the elite status. The ice cream is one of the best quality I have ever had at a Chinese buffet. It's hard to get because you have to scoop it yourself and not a machine. I will definitely be coming back again when I am in town and I urge you to do the same.
