The reviews made it sound like this was a Japanese option in sandestin. It is not. Located in an extremely touristy (nothing wrong with that) area it is very much your tourist level cooked roll kinda place with perhaps 5 roll options, many of which are strange: fried chicken roll and a steak roll that's deep fried. The remains offerings are teriyaki and mahi mahi with ponzu sauce. I got the steak roll, it was a strange taste of steak wrapper in rice and seaweed that's been breaded and fried. Based on this I'd say if you think this is a great sushi place in a beachy area: no it's not. read more

Stopped in for sushi but was pretty disappointed. The rolls were terrible and not fresh, tasted off and smelled fishy. The simple grilled grouper over rice was good however I wouldn't come back for it. Not sure why this spot has so many good reviews but it surely can't be the sushi. Football at bar, a screen of people in Japan, and a screen with fall scenes and Boston. Need to order at counter and find a table yourself. We were there at 7:35p. Friendly staff. Got a Philly roll, the crispy shrimp tempura roll, and the fried chicken dish. The rolls were fine. The chicken panko crust was crunchy but the chicken was slightly tough. I was hoping that an Japanese restaurant would come to The Village at Baytowne Wharf. Welcome, Yaki! I love their spicy tuna roll. I do wish they offered more sushi rolls. We ducked into Yaki for a quick appetizer on a Tuesday evening around 7:30pm. In there, you seat yourself, order at the bar & then someone brings your food to you. We ordered the Bao Buns & they were pretty good! December 30, 2023, dinner... This location is ideal for upscale tourists - it is right in the middle of Baytowne Wharf / Sandestin Resort. New Years Weekend. Customers walk in, order at the counter, and pay. Of course when paying, there's the question about about of tip you'd like to leave - before you get any service and before you eat any of their food. I opted for no tip. (this review is not based on the tip issue - many places do this nowadays). After ordering, get your own drinks from the coke dispenser (like McDonald's kinda thing) and grab a table; they bring the food to your table. Seven of us for dinner, 4 had sushi... at this Japanese restaurant. Not one of us were impressed with the sushi. The taste and texture was bland, with a somewhat 'bitter' aftertaste. The seaweed wrap was tough - could not even tear it apart without significant force. This quite reminded us of the sushi one would get at a Publix - but multiply the price by 5 or so. It's a casual spot which is not necessarily a bad thing, but the service definitely matches. The food is very much not worth the price; it is very bland and is not authentic. The service is almost as bad, I have seen people pay first, not be able to enjoy their meals and be refused refunds when sending back full plates. This was our first meal after a long day in the car traveling here...Sad to say we eat way better sushi in Oklahoma and the prices are better too. Very disappointed, sushi didn't have much flavor-extremely bland even our child thought it was tasteless and the rice in the rolls were very crunchy ( volcano and shrimp roll) Ordered a noddle dish too with combination meat and that was bland as well. Extremely disappointing after spending 100 dollars to still be hungry and not want to finish our food. Yaki at Baytowne Wharf is an unexpected, pleasant surprise to the SanDestin resort area! In a wharf full to the brim of stereotypical beach tourism food, burgers, and ice cream this asian joint is a great break in that monotony. We stopped in for lunch and both ordered sushi and it was splendid! I've eaten a lot, and I mean a lot, of sushi all over and this holds up really well. The flavors were great, service was great, and decor was cute and culturally relevant. My only gripe is the price, being basically $25 for one roll of sushi and a soda - however this is in the middle of a golf resort community meant for tourism so it makes sense. One star is too high for this rating. This by far was one of the most disappointing food experiences for vacation. We order multiple items off the menu including a shrimp appetizer, sushi roll, fried rice and noodle entrees, and a couple of alcoholic spirits. Everything came to the table bland and seemed as if meats were artificial or expired. We spent close to $100+ and left all the food unattended and went to Oyster House down the walkway. Place is sooooo good! Always fresh, the food is tasty and quickly prepared.... Place is outstanding. Had the chicken noodle stir fry last time down for a quick weekend trip to Sandestin. It was great! Great for kids and entire family. The meals were all very reasonably priced. Will be one of our go to places anytime in Baytowne Sandestin. My Dad and I stopped in for a quick lunch. We had a Philly Roll, Florida Roll, and Crunchy Shrimp Roll. All three were delicious! We also started off with the Harumaki appetizer and that came out quickly and was delicious as well. The staff were polite and attentive.
