Honestly, I expected something much more casual given the location, tucked between a closed ice cream shop and a vape shop. But once you walk through the doors, you quickly realize this place is on another level. The owners clearly know their stuff, especially when it comes to sushi. They had just received a huge tuna from Japan and were offering several different cuts prepared in different styles. Everything we tried was incredibly fresh and delicious. In all the years we've lived in Destin, I honestly can't think of another sushi restaurant quite like this. The appetizers, soups, salad, and cooked dishes were all excellent as well. Fair warning: Ume Sushi is not inexpensive! Some of the items are market-priced, so be prepared for a higher-end bill. One order of uni and three pieces of their special tuna nigiri set me back about $60. That said, the quality is definitely there, and you're getting what you pay for. This is a fantastic addition to the Destin dining scene, and we will absolutely be back--probably next payday!
