Their simple rolls (e.g., spicy tuna or salmon roll) are good - what you typically find at your favorite sushi restaurant. But their fancier rolls - the majority include "krab" or/and cream cheese. Sorry but those are two non-starters for me. So that left me with simple rolls or narrowed to two of the special rolls. I don't recall the names but one of those I did not like. The hamachi kama was typical and good. Edamame was prepared correctly. And the service was top notch. I would go here and just be selective about what I order. My family and friends went to dinner tonight at Sushimoto. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server brought water and offered us any drinks and appetizers. We had the edamame. For our meal we started with the yellowtail sashimi, which was tender and flavorful. We also shared a spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, as well as the spider roll. All of these rolls did not disappoint, they were delicious!! Sushimoto doesn't have many seats, so you may need to wait depending on your arrival time. Be patient because it won't disappoint. The owner made us amazing off the menu items based on our own tastes- and I will confidently say it's the best sushi I've ever had. I stopped by for lunch in my way from an appointment and I really enjoyed how friendly and attentive the staff were. I thought the quality of the sashimi was good, especially for around here (not very good around northern Florida usually ). My brother got the beef bowl and thought it was really good too. This is a little bit more expensive than I usually pay even for lunch price, but not terrible. I think we spent 42$ for two people (including tip). Portion size was sizeable! And filling! I'm very happy to have checked this place out after seeing multiple people recommend it on Reddit! My date ordered the steak teriyaki. The steak tasted phenomenal. It was tender, juicy and super flavorful! They also gave a good amount of steak in the dish, along with a side of rice, dumplings and cucumbers in a yummy spicy sauce. Totally worth $20 and we actually went back the next day so I could order it as well lol. I grew up in Florida and miss having accessible sushi places now that I live in a landlocked state. I tried three different rolls, the snow bird, viagra and mango tango. What was fun is that the second time we visited us they let me order a roll of their current menu, called the Mango tango which was fantastic. I love fresh tuna paired with mango. All of the seafood in the rooms was fresh and each one of them was flavorful. I usually prefer sushi with less fried ingredients, but really enjoyed these rolls and would order them again despite my typical preference. Lastly this restaurant gets super packed! It opens at 5 for dinner and we thought we were getting there early at 5:12, but all tables were full and we had to wait 45 minutes. Definitely expect to wait if you plan to eat here and I'd say if your party is larger than 6 people you are better off going somewhere else since their seating arrangement is not fit for extremely large parties. They were fairly busy when we arrived but we were greeted and seated after a short wait. The manager was super friendly and checked on us throughout the night. Comfortable with a nice evening ambiance or for lunch at the sushi counter. Can appear to be closed in the evening because they have very dark tinted windows. Funny signs at check in give the impression that they don't mess around with rude tourists, but we found them to be accommodating, friendly, and courteous. Very uncomfortable experience. One senior employee's attitude was unacceptable and discriminating against a group of young US-born Asian-American customers. The employer kept saying that she didn't understand our English. They charged us 20% tips in receipts for a group of five people. So, we decided to stop by the following evening and the waitress who was very snappy and rude said "We are not going to be able to seat you and if we do, we are going to run out of rice so you might as well not eat here". Just got back from our recent trip to Florida and my wife, daughter and I were in a mood for some Sushi and we ended up at Sushimoto. This was the first time at the restaurant which is located in a strip-mall. We got there just at the right time, by the time we sat down, a number of people started to show up and by the time the server took our order, the place was filled up and with no empty tables. We ended up ordering a tuna roll, California roll, a number of rainbow rolls, smoked salmon, salmon sashimi, a vegetable roll, a crunchy tuna and JOJ (Just off the Jet) roll. My two favorite rolls were the Crunchy Tuna and the JOJ. Yes we did share the sushi amount the three of us. The owner/manager came by our table to check up and see how we were doing. He was very friendly and engaging. The sushi/fish was fresh and I would recommend this sushi restaurant, the food and service was good. On a side note, I guess we are a little spoiled because we usually end up eating all you can eat sushi restaurant (in St. Louis) but this restaurant was a close second. (Maybe this could be an opportunity for a sushi restaurant in Destin to offer a flat fee for all you can eat sushi? just a thought). read more

I've been on this earth for 40 years and have eatin a many sushi roll.... Sushimoto is "Legit". I cannot explain how deliciously fresh their sushi is. What a wonderful dining experience. Other Yelpers have said the service is not friendly here. I have to disagree. A very nice family run business. If you plan on coming prepare yourself to wait about an hour before you are seated as there are only 7 tables plus the sushi bar. Do what we did and Head next door for a pre dinner drink. It's a pretty small sushi restaurant and I heard that the wait time can exceed 45 mins if you go on a weekend during dinner hours. Luckily, we arrived around 5pm on a Saturday before the dinner rush. Upon walking in, the restaurant felt really cozy. It's a family run business and the staff was very cheerful, inviting, and warm. Our server Polly was such a sweetheart. Always checking up on us and making sure that we were comfortable. No water on that table was left empty. The head chef checked up on us too! The menu was very simple. Basically your usual appetizers like cucumber salad, edamame, etc. They have a few sushi rolls, sashimi, and nigiri. Also udon, teriyaki, and tempura. I usually don't order sashimi at a sushi restaurant, mainly just rolls. However, my brother insisted that I try the sashimi. I ordered the edamame, octopus, and tuna sashimi (3 pieces each kind). My sister and brother had the sushi and sashimi combo that included various types of fish sashimi, nigiri, and a California roll. My sister also got the cucumber salad. We decided to share everything. The edamame was good and I like that they let you salt it yourself, because alot of sushi places tend to oversalt their edamame. Cucumber salad was refreshing and light. They added some shredded imitation crab on top that added a nice flavor. The dressing was just right, not too sweet or too tangy. OH MY GOODNESS! The raw fish was out of this world! It was incredibly fresh and melted like butter in my mouth. There were no fishy aftertaste in any of the raw fish (tilapia, tuna, yellowtail) that I ate. I hate fish with an aftertaste and the fish here tastes super clean. The octopus was not rubbery but soft. I was really surprised how much I liked the tilapia because I usually don't eat tilapia, let alone raw. The sashimi were thick slabs too! The California roll was delicious too, even with just basic ingredients. The avocado was super creamy and the cucumber had a nice crunch. Overall, this place is worth checking out. Kinda pricey but the quality is really great. Will definitely be back when I'm on that side of town. read more
