we were recommended by a friend to come here and our visit did not disappoint! we were seated quickly and ordered karaage for appetizers. it was so tender and crispy, i could've eaten more than one plate. for mains we got salmon nigiri, spider roll, dragon roll, and their special trio tuna roll which came with 3 different parts of tuna. the sushi was absolutely delicious and probably the best sushi i have had in this area. their menu isn't as big as some but i think that's good so they can focus on quality ingredients which they are really passionate about. our overall experience was great and so was the service. we definitely recommend to anyone visiting to try this spot out for the best sushi in the area! read more

An Outstanding Sushi Experience in Destin! Ume Sushi was truly an amazing experience! Honestly, I expected something much more casual given the location, tucked between a closed ice cream shop and a vape shop. But once you walk through the doors, you quickly realize this place is on another level. The owners clearly know their stuff, especially when it comes to sushi. They had just received a huge tuna from Japan and were offering several different cuts prepared in different styles. Everything we tried was incredibly fresh and delicious. In all the years we've lived in Destin, I honestly can't think of another sushi restaurant quite like this. The appetizers, soups, salad, and cooked dishes were all excellent as well. Fair warning: Ume Sushi is not inexpensive! Some of the items are market-priced, so be prepared for a higher-end bill. One order of uni and three pieces of their special tuna nigiri set me back about $60. That said, the quality is definitely there, and you're getting what you pay for. This is a fantastic addition to the Destin dining scene, and we will absolutely be back--probably next payday! Absolutely loved Ume Sushi in Destin. Everything was incredibly fresh -- the tuna sashimi especially stood out. Perfectly cut and full of flavor. The appetizers were unique and really tasty. I enjoyed my dinner so much that I ended up coming back for lunch a few days later and tried one of their bento boxes, and it was just as good. The service was wonderful and very friendly. Went for lunch. Nice bright clean environment. Staff was welcoming. The sushi chef told me he is the owner and is from New York. Ordered the karaage app and was very impressed. Had the right flavor and texture and was very hot & juicy. My wife ordered the teriyaki tofu. It was different than most typical fried tofu I've had, but very delicate and delicious seasoning. I ordered a couple pieces of tuna & yellowtail nigiri. It's some of the best I've had. The owner says he has much of the fish flown in from Japan. Will go again. Great sushi place. read more

So delicious! We were out and wanting sushi. So we tried here. It's a nice and clean area in a strip mall by Walmart in Destin out by Henderson beach. They had just brought in Otoro in from Japan for the special. Be warned, it's expensive though. Otoro was $15/piece. And the rolls are a tad smaller than what we are used to. Otoro nigiri - 5 stars, melts in your mouth tender, the picked wasabi was the perfect match Godzilla roll - 4.5 stars, soft shell crab amazing, quality fish on top, but not much flavor outside the eel and sauce. Eel and avocado roll - 4 stars, real nice simple roll. Eel and avocado is a great match. Dragon roll - 5 stars, eel was melt in your mouth tender, match with avocado was amazing. Would order this again. Shrimp tempura roll - 5 stars, the tempura shrimp was sweet and delicious. Simple roll, still amazing. Popped in today for a quick lunch bite and got the yellowtail jalapeño app, a house salad (dressing was fantastic), salmon and yellowtail nigiri and a shrimp tempura roll. Food, 10/10!!! The fish tastes fresh and the salmon was buttery and soooo yummy. The owner stopped by to highlight some interesting things about the restaurant, like the fact that they always have bluefin tuna and otoro on the menu. Service was on point and atmosphere is very comfortable. Also, they put cucumber and orange in their water and I thought that was a nice touch. Extremely satisfied with my experience here. The volcano roll and tuna trio roll (otoro, chutoro, tuna) were top notch. Waiting staff was attentive and thoughtful. We also met the owner who told us about the Uni shipments they get from Japan. The bar seating was spacious and two TVs for easy viewing along with great look into the sushi chefs workspace. Best sushi in Destin! We ordered their spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, sweet potato roll, rainbow roll, and paradise roll. We also got the seaweed salad, house salad, and tuna tataki. All wonderful! Fresh and beautiful. They had our order ready in 30 minutes to pickup and everyone there was super pleasant to talk to. Went to new Sushi place tonight and wasn't disappointed. www.umesushidestin.com is not "just" a sushi place either, as they have Teriyaki, Udon, Tempura, Katsu, small plates like Karaage and Hamachi Kama, and Bento Boxes at lunch. The interior is rather Spartan, but the service was wonderful and the Sushi was as good as is found in the area, and better than a lot of places. I would put it right up there with Post 20, which we love as well. The owners are on site, the husband is the sushi chef, and his wife runs the house. They only use blue fin tuna, and source several of their fish from Japan. I had the sushi deluxe, 10 pieces of nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. You'll be able to see from the pictures that the tuna roll is mainly tuna, not mainly rice or something else, and it was delicious. We stopped in for lunch today as we were in area. Cici was very welcoming and Chef Kevin made some tasty Shashimi which included white tuna, ahi, some type of bass, and salmon, then we had Hawaiian roll. All the the raw fish was extremely fresh. The Salmon from Faroe island was impeccable it was silky. Cici also took time to explain how she is sourcing most of the fish, and how she plans to show on social media when a new Blue Fin arrives, if your tired of the same three standard type fishes at regular sushi places , go give them a try .
