Enjoyed a delicious dinner on a recent trip to the area at Soi Bistro. We stopped by on a Saturday evening and were happily able to be seated straight away (though those that came it a bit later were faced with a wait--it filled up quickly!). We started off with bowls of miso soup, which was comforting and warmly flavorful on the rainy evening we stopped by. For our entree, we shared the chef's choice sushi and sashimi. Both were astounding. The fish was beautifully fresh and the chef's selections were varied. There was nothing we didn't enjoy. Our server was kind enough to ask if we liked certain things that can be iffy for some folks to ensure we didn't get anything we didn't like in the chef's choice (we like everything so no issue there for us). Recommended by my rental car agent. It was a little out of my way down in Fort Walton Beach, but it was worth the drive. I was seated at the bar immediately and the service was good. I got three unique rolls. Me. Bombastic was the best. Tuna lover was missing something. Maybe jalapeno or some sort of crunch texture. The Drunken Tiger was good as well. My family was very pleasantly surprised. The establishment doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was excellent! The service was good, and restaurant interior was fine. Mentaiko fries - tasted good but overpriced. The torching of the dish elevated the flavor, so I may try that more at home when making fries. The dish came out hot. Agedashi tofu - I liked it but my family thought it was too gingery. Also the consistency of the tofu was not as silky as I expected. Still a tasty dish. Seafood Journey Cakes - loved the taste but a bit too small for the price. Poke Bowl - great mix of ingredients and flavors. I wish they served more fish in the bowl. Was referred to Soi Bistro and it was so good! I all ready know I will be visiting again and trying more rolls! The five of us this time all enjoyed our meals. No one had complaints and we all know we'll make a trip back. The surf n turf roll is one I haven't seen at other sushi places I've been too and I loved it. Stopped by Soi Bistro with a group of 4 at open on Sunday a few weekends ago while I was visiting Ft. Walton for a wedding; one of the other guests had mentioned that this place looked good when she was searching for dinner options the previous night, so we decided to swing by! I'm really glad we did. Our table ordered truffle takoyaki (limited time/seasonal item) and the mentaiko fries to share; both were very tasty, especially the fries. They don't skimp on mentaiko! I ended up ordering a salmon skin roll, the yellowtail jalapeno sashimi, and an assortment of nigiri for myself. The salmon skin roll was alright, nothing to write home about, and the sushi rice wasn't really flavored enough for my tastes, but the fish is super fresh here. I loved the yellowtail sashimi a lot, and the flavors of the accompaniments were excellent. And the ikura and salmon nigiri in particular were delicious. 8 of us (5 adults 3 teen boys) stopped here after spending half the day on a Pontoon boat trolling Crab Island. So...I'm only reviewing my meal, because the kids were all over the place. First of all this place is in a very non-descript location and the windows have like a white film on it, presumably to block the sun and the ensuing heat. Given the time of day the parking lot was pretty much empty and it looked like the place was closed but once we opened the door, it was a nice, bright, and inviting atmosphere. Our waitress was very professional, and had good vibes. I had one of my staples which is the Philly roll, as well as their house specialty called the Mango Tango, which is pretty much the same as the Philly roll, except for it added mango avocado, crab salad, and scallions. If I lived here, I would eat here every day. Oh my goodness. This was SO GOOD. We ordered a small feast, and none of us talked the entire time. We ordered the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), and it was crispy, sweet, and spicy. The rice cakes that accompanied them were chewy and saucy. We also ordered the Kraken sushi. This sushi was a good combo of flavors with multiple ingredients in one roll. Super tasty. We also ordered the katsu rice bowl. This bowl had rice, egg, onion, pork katsu and some sauce. The katsu was crispy and the rice was packed with flavor. The crown jewel of our little feast was the wontons. The wontons were filled with the classic crab Rangoon filling - with so much crab meat. The wonton shell was a very thin, flaky, fried moneybag. The flaky shell, with the creamy filling, all joined together and married with a sweet and tangy peach lychee dipping sauce. WOW. Ordered to go tonight and was a little underwhelmed, especially considering the great reviews here. Giving 3 stars instead of 2 because perhaps getting to-go food wasn't the best choice. Ginger salad - was expecting more than just 1/2 a cup of lettuce. Bland and boring. Wouldn't get again. Gyoza - gyoza is by far my favorite appetizer and it's kinda hard to mess up (at least I thought). I got fried, and the edges were so hard I had to pick them off. The gyoza itself had very little filling and it was super dry. So sad about this! Mango tango roll - this was labeled a favorite so I decided to try it. There is an odd smell (maybe from the fake crab on top), but I tried it anyways. It's just a very very average roll. Not a fan. Service was quick for to go order. Although you can track your order online. Mine was done way before it said it was ready so it sat on the shelf for a little while. I finally just went in. Overall, just average. read more

For 4th of July weekend, we went on a road trip. We stopped in Fort Walton Beach for some food. Chose sushi as it was light, and well, I had overeaten earlier that day. That said, Soi Bistro has more than just sushi. They have a bunch of rice and noodle plates for those who like my companion hate fish. This place is very nice. The décor is relaxing to the point that the bathroom mirror reads "good vibes only." I will say though that it was freezing. You may want to grab your sweater from your car. Oh, and get some hot tea. Believe me, your body will thank you later. As far as food goes, they have an entire book worth of options. You'll be perusing for awhile easily. We wound up ordering some steamed pork gyoza for the table. Then he had the yakisoba, while I had a miso soup and a shrimp tempura roll. Have to say we really enjoyed our food minus one part. My miso soup while edible was salty. It wasn't to the point of inedible, but it definitely was the type of thing that you can tell they went overboard. Anyway, for what it was for us, it's a good stop for food. I would have no problems returning in the area. Just you know... This place is a non-negotiable for me when I'm in FWB/Destin - it's that good! Staff are always friendly and I like how the place is set up that no matter where you sit, you can see them preparing your rolls. They also have some of my favorite sake flavors. This place has gone downhill. We haven't been here in a couple of years and it is nothing of its former glory. The ramen is a joke, nowhere in Japan do they put cold corn in the ramen, the broth was a watered down miso base that was barely like warm, the eggs are laughable, and did I mention no flavor at all, even with the over cooked pork. The sushi was pathetic, rice not properly prepared and the sushi was subpar old seafood. Do not go here if you have a pallet and enjoy what you eat. read more
