i don't normally write reviews, and apologies for the length of this one, but I have to give a huge shout out to Rich and Chimney Plus. I have a gas fireplace that would not stay lit. I tried a couple fireplace repair services who replaced every component of the fireplace and concluded that the problem was in exhaust pipe and starving the flame of oxygen. I was told I need to find a chimney guy who would likely have to rip it out and replace it. This would be an extremely messy and costly job. I got Rich's name from recommendations I found on Facebook. After speaking with him a couple times about my situation, he told me he doesn't deal with that type of installation. I told him I was stuck because nobody has been able to figure it out. He offered to take a look and made it absolutely clear that he also may not be able to find a solution. I was impressed by his need to set expectations and told him to come and give it a shot. Rich came the next day and in less than 5 minutes he told me "It's not the pipe, it's something electronic. The fireplace is shutting down, not suffocating." He then went up on the roof to confirm that the fireplace was exhausting as it should. He didn't know what the issue was though, and honestly, he could have left at that point. Afterall, I hired him to check the exhaust pipe, which he did. He began to question me about how the fireplace works and what parts were replaced. Then he asked, "do you control the fireplace from that remote?". I said yes and he asked "have you tried another remote?" The remote is the only part that had not been replaced and nobody ever thought of it being the possible cause. We played around with some settings on the remote and suddenly the fireplace was staying lit. Again, Rich could have left at that point. Instead, he stayed about two hours and read through the entire installation manual to see if there could be anything else causing the issue. He suggested I try a few things (furniture was in the way so we couldn't do it right then). He then left but returned a few minutes later to check the gas lines to be sure they were sufficient to support all of the gas appliances in the house. He was determined to check everything! Rich then left, but called me multiple times that day with additional ideas as he continued to research my fireplace online. A couple days later he left printed copies of the documents he found online in my mailbox. All of this was done as part of the initial call! The fireplace is still working. I think his initial instinct about the remote causing the issue was correct. A couple times that the fireplace went out since then, I played around with the remote and it re-lit and stayed list. I'm going to order a new remote which I'm confident will solve the problem completely. Rich is a rare find. He's a nice guy who cares. He went above and beyond and saved me a lot of headaches and a lot of money. I can't recommend Rich and Chimney Plus highly enough. read more

Great company and great service!! Rich / Chimney plus came highly recommended from a friend and I can see why. He did a great job and really went above and beyond to make sure everything, exhaust wise was working properly in my main house and my guest house. I think its especially important to hire someone you trust with something like this because the truth is most of never see the inside of chimney to the point where we even know if it needs to be cleaned! Important to hire someone who will shoot you straight. I felt I could trust Rich which is why I hired him and he did not disappoint. I couldn't recommended higher. Will be using for years to come. He returned my call in the afternoon and even though he was booked solid for the next two days he still came over my house at night time when I told him there was no heat and with two small children at home. Showed me what was wrong with my chimney, but more important, told me that I had a crack in the heat exchanger that was allowing fumes to enter the house. I had complained about this condition to my service company and was advised that it was a backdraft because of wind or something. It was actually a very serious problem and if not corrected, could have led to personal injury. Rich was prompt, courteous, workmanlike, and very reasonable. I had my annual furnace check up today by my oil company and learned that there may be problems w/ my chimney. My oil maintenance guy recommended Chimney Plus and gave me the phone number. I called, and Rich came by, on New Year's Eve, within 2 hours, for a job that was not even close to an emergency. Could have been looked at in a month with no harm. Rich showed up earlier than promised. He looked it over, ran some tests, and told me the problem the oil guy thought might be present, wasn't, and all I needed was a little bit of cleaning, and he did it then and there. Beyond that, though, he taught me more about how the furnace works than I've ever known, and I've owned this house and furnace for 25+ years. A squirrel built a nest in our chimney and smoke was backing up into our house. I hired someone to remove it and clear the chimney but when they drove off and I turned the heat on it was still backing up. Can you say too many good things about a person or a business? Not in this case. Rich is smart, accommodating, and even funny. But he was the one who smelled gas even after I had the plumbing and heating guys here 8 times. He did a whole lot of checking things and bottom line, my chimney was not the culprit. Honest, prompt, helpful and he provided excellent service. I had a problem with my gas furnace and hot water heater not venting correctly. The original service I called had to return after the original visit and still didn't correct my issue. I called Chimney Plus and received a prompt call back to setup an appointment. It was found that my vent was fully clogged and Rich put in the effort to do the job correctly and actually clear the pipe and fix a very dangerous situation. I recommend this company 100%. I had a problem with water damage on a bedroom wall which was up against our chimney. The company that put in our roof recommended someone who came once to looked at the water damage then eye-balled the chimney from the ground. He gave me a price of several thousand dollars to replace the chimney to the roof line and twice that to to the whole chimney. Simultaneously we were having a problem with our furnace which turned out t be related to our crumbling chimney. Rich Miller was recommended to me by the company that services our furnace. Rich came promptly and did a very thorough assessment. He patiently explained to me how the chimney worked (two different flues) and suggested that we try the simplest and least expensive option first. This minor adjustment that he made cost about $400 and fixed the problem. I greatly appreciated his honesty and interest in saving me money especially when he could have just as easily told me that I needed more major and more extensive work that would have made him more money. I first met Rich Miller when my furnace was not functioning properly, and the service company I was using said it could not be fixed. I was referred to Rich, who soon had the furnace working well. I subsequently used him for chimney cleaning, after a 'bargain price 'chimney sweep firm told me I needed to have the furnace chimney relined.
